Rating: Summary: Indispensible!! Review: Great product. Easy to use; data transfers quickly from computer.. No-brainer synch. Rechargeable batteries have a very long life, and recharged quickly, making travel a breeze. Handy combination recharge/synch cradle runs on 110v... Suggested improvement would be to make this a combination 110/220v charger. The Palm Vx is a winner...
Rating: Summary: What's the next step? Review: I have used a Palm V since they where out in the market. Now I just bought a HP Jornada 458 and been wondering when we are going to have a device so powerful and nice looking as those powered with pocket pc.I'm not talking about the color, I'm talking on a device that can hold mission critical applications and tools for developing professional modules that can interact with bar code readers, gps, and RadioFrecuency data interchange. This keeps Palm's "??" in the "what's going on with you?" apparel. I must recognize that Palm Vx size it amasing and very convenient if you like to carry it on your shirt pocket
Rating: Summary: what a time-saver Review: I just got my palm and its making me EFFICIENT! I guess you could say i really needed it.
Rating: Summary: Nice look, but missed the details Review: I use my Palm V as an address book, calendar and to-do list, with a few digital notes. I also have the Dooney & Bourke Palm V Case and the Palm travel kit. The Palm V is sleek and attractive, but has a few major flaws: 1. The on button is not protected from being constantly activated by the case, causing the batteries to drain extremely fast. 2. The flimsy cover that it comes with is not sufficient. Everybody that I know that has a palm, bought an additional case. The original case should at least be usable. 3. The reset button does not clear memory, forcing me to wait for the batteries to die to clear it. No bulk delete option is provided. 4. There is no USB option provided with the basic Palm for synching with USB devices. 5. The rechargeable built-in battery is nice if you don't leave your cradle for more than a week, but nasty if you travel. In short, the Palm V has potential, but some simple design flaws and the need to buy a number of add-ons just to make it functional are simply unacceptable at that price tag. For my needs, I'm going to the REX 6000. It is far less expensive, much more portable, and provides both USB and PCMCIA synching out of the box.
Rating: Summary: not the best if you travel a lot Review: For travellers there is no better alternative than regular batteries. The Visor Platinum runs on 2 AAA batteries that last for weeks. And when you need new ones, you can buy them in any corner store. Nothing to carry, nothing to plug in and no worries. Imagine if you leave for your trip and later discover you forgot the charger! In the end, the Vx is overpriced. The unit costs $400 and if you need the travel kit that's $50 more. The Visor Platinum has a faster processor, it is $100 cheaper and you don't need any adapters or chargers when travelling. Visor also offers a 56k modem that is cheaper than Palm's 33k [and Palm does not have a 56k model available at this time]. Hmm. By the way, I don't work for Visor; I own a Vx but wish I had the Visor my girlfriend has. We'll take hers when we go overseas next month...
Rating: Summary: consider the sony clie if you're a road warrior Review: This Palm VX is a great PDA. But the main problem that i have with it is that I run out of battery power when I have to go to Europe or anywhere for long periods of time. I don't want to lug around the cradle to charge it and so I think the Sony Clie is better because it allows you to charge directly with the AC adapter. With the Palm VX, you have to buy the travel kit separately. Also the Sony Clie delivers more value since it is less expensive and the form factor is just as good.
Rating: Summary: Now that it is working... Review: ... I wrote another review you can see below somewhere about the on/off button problem... Well, I decided to stay with the same model (the Vx), and now that it is working it is awesome! I considered getting the Visor Platinum instead, but I like the small size of the Vx. The Platinum is faster, less expensive, and can do the same things as the Vx, but it is bigger. The question is whether you are willing to pay more for the smaller size. I decided I wanted to because I don't wear suits or carry a briefcase all the time. I prefer to carry the organizer in my pants' front pocket, so size is important. In my humble opinion, the Visor does offer more for the money, but the Vx has the advantage of small size. The only other things to consider are: (1) the Visor uses regular (AAA) batteries while the Vx is rechargeable and (2) the Visor line offers "modules", including a 56K modem, that are smaller than the external accessories for the Vx.
Rating: Summary: Unreliable Review: The on and off switch stopped working after a few months, after sending it back for repairs, I received a refurbished Palm with a defective button. This caused a crash with all data lost. Sent back again. This time the graffiti area was incorrectly positioned. Back again - I finally received a new model. After a few months the power button stopped working. At this point I have given up. A waste of money. I won't even go into the hot sync problems.
Rating: Summary: It can happen to you Review: Well... I had read that some people have problems with the green on/off button, but I guess I never thought it could happen to me. Well, it did and I am not happy about it. My Vx worked for about 5 minutes before it died on me! When I turned it on for the very first time, after charging it fully as instructed, I was able to write a couple of addresses down. I turned it off, and was never able to turn it back on at all! I paid $400 for this thing and it lasted 5 minutes! I guess when they work they are good, but I have seen lots of reviews [here and in other websites] complaining about the poor quality of the on/off button. I am going to research this more before I decide whether to replace it with the same model.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely, Positively, Fantastically GREAT! Review: The money that I put down for my Palm Vx is some of the best I've ever spent. Really. Prior to my Palm Vx, I had a separate address book and calendar and lists and notes everywhere, all of which ended up getting lost or being in entirely different places when I needed them most. As a result, I often forgot to do things that needed to be done, lost important phone numbers, etc.-you get the idea. My Palm Vx changed everything. Now I keep everything important, from the standard addresses, to do's, notes, and appointments to my accounting info, stock portfolio, and local movie times (thanks to AvantGo.com) all on my Palm Vx, and it's GREAT! A warning to those buying Palm V's, though. It takes time to get used to it! I hated grafiti (the "handwriting" you must use for the Palm to recognize your input) at first, and found the miniscule on-screen keyboard a pain. Additionally, I saw no real point in keeping a to do list and ALL my appointments on the thing. After a month of forcing myself to do so, however, I was hooked! After really taking the time to get familiar with the thing, I use it on the order of twenty times a day--far more than I've used any other device (digital or old-fashioned pen and paper). So, my buying advice: buy one! Palm Vx's are absolutely fantastic, really! They're beautifully designed (you won't feel geeky pulling one out!) and the handiest things in the world. I promise! (Be sure to buy a hard case to keep it nice.)
