Rating: Summary: Palm IIIc - A Master Stroke! Review: I had a Palm IIIx for two years, and in December received the Palm IIIc as a gift. Fantastic! I can't believe how a simple thing like color can improve the Palm experience so much! I used to have to use the IIIx backlight feature a lot, but no matter how I tried it just wasn't bringht enough, or providing enough contrast. One night in my car, I desperately needed to refer to some driving directions in the IIIc and - WOW! The illumination was incredible! I could see everything clearly. Some people don't think that it works well in direct sunlight, but I have never had a problem with that. The lithium ion battery is wonderful - I can go a week without recharging, and I use many, many different applications per day (including AvantGo) - batteries in my IIIx would never stand a chance now. The IIIc has many recharging options, from the charging cradle to the travel charger. It also has a neat new calendar view, with provides the user with a daily synopsis of meetings/events. It is also a very cool charcoal color, as opposed to the old Palm gray. All in all, I am very, very pleased with my Palm IIIc!!
Rating: Summary: Loving this thing Review: First, let me say that I have had probably 30 paper Dayrunners/Filofaxes/Franklin Planners in the last four years and was really getting ridiculous with tiring of them after a few months, buying a new one and transferring from one book to another. Boring! So here's this handy little Palm thing that promises to organize and maintain all my stuff with precision, zap my business cards, has ths big database, and whatever else the box promises. Turns out, they ain't lying. I got mine in color for the novelty (and 'cause a friend had one and my techno-envy kicked in), but it turns out to be the smartest move for this user. Not only is it easier to read at night or in darker environs, but the graphics capablility turns this thing into a portable photo album with high-quality images. It also helps with some of the games I have put on. The price proved to be worth it, seeing that the memory is practically unending and the amount of applications I've downloaded have run perfectly, without eating up a lot of those 8mbs. Having used the original Palm for a few months, I was amazed to see how much more the IIIc can handle and continue to find new things that make it by far the sharpest and most useful planning tool I have ever used. Check out the Vindigo and Avantgo dot.com sites, which allow you to download webpages and city guides for even more utility. So cool, too.
Rating: Summary: I COULDN'T IMAGINE OWNING GRAYSCALE AGAIN! Review: I bought a Viser as my first PDA and immediately fell in love with the whole handheld thing! Within a year I decided to upgrade to add more memory and to explore color and Oh Wow!!!!!!!! What a difference! Now I wouldn't dream of going back to grayscale!!!!!!! My only wish is that it had the color intensity of the Handspring Prism and the wireless connectivity of the Palm VIIx. The Palm IIIc is a great product!
Rating: Summary: Totally Awesome, Practical and Easy to Use!!!! Review: If I had to limit my review of this item to one word, the word would be 'AWESOME'!!! I have owned my PALM IIIC for 6-7 months now and absolutely love it! Not only does it hold 8megs of memory, so you can load almost any software on it, but with the fulltime backlight, it is very easy to see in the dark and either play or ugh... be productive. With more and more color applications being produced for the PALM IIIC, it is no wonder I see dozens of them around my office now. I was an owner of a PALM V prior to this PDA and was waiting for the re-release of the PALM Vx so I could go from 2 to 8 megs of memory. I happen to stumble across the color PDA and have been so happy I have. It is so easy to use, the battery life is more than enough to allow you to go on week long trips without having to worry about recharging it while you are gone. Loading and modifying applications running is a click of a button, and a sync. I would highly recommend this PDA to everyone that is looking for a Palm to have. Yes, it is very slightly larger and barely heavier than the other models, but once you have it, you will not notice any difference. GET IT!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Bright Light makes the Palm IIIc difficult to see the screen Review: I purchased a PalmIIIc for my wife. We live at in a ski resort town in Utah and play golf, ski and trout fish. The screen in sunlight, or avereage sunlight and snow make the IIIc difficult to use. I own the Palm VII and love it as the screen and adjustment feature and backlighting make the VII much more useable. Color is not worth it if you can't see it!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Indispensible Toy Review: The IIIc is not only just about the coolest toy ever, it immediately becomes indispensible. Unless size is critical, I would definitely recommend the IIIc over the Vx, as the color makes it so much easier to read and so much more fun to play with. The complaints you see about screen brightness are bogus. The display is plenty bright and clear and easy to read in all situations except direct sunlight. Perhaps the people criticizing screen brightness and image quality need to download Chrome and select a higher contrast color scheme, because I just can't understand what they're complaining about. Other great free downloads include Vindigo and Avantgo. If you travel, you will also love Travel Tracker, which I consider well worth the thirty bucks. After barely two months, I can hardly even imagine life without my Palm, and that's pretty much the best recommendation I can think of.
Rating: Summary: Palm IIIc handheld - top of the line Review: I have owned this palm for a month, and it is great! The screen is easy to read (except in direct sunlight), and there are many great applications that you can get for it. Great buy.
Rating: Summary: A great product at a good price Review: I've had mine for several months now. I'm totally hooked. The color screen is beautiful indoors and adequately readable even in bright sunlight when I turn my back to the sun. The OS could make even better use of color, but the OS is flash upgradable and a new version is rumored to be coming out soon. As with all Palms, it's operation is VERY intuitive. The synching with MS Outlook (called a conduit) was easy to install and works without problems. Very powerful organizer! I do my photo work and display on my home computer. If you're really wanting best quality photos, the IIIC would limit you with it's 256 colors and 8MB memory, and I suggest you look at a Pocket PC. (Some people have found the Prism hard to view for long periods of time--slow refresh rate?). The only reservation I have, which hopefully will not be a problem for several years, is that when the recharchable battery eventually dies, I'll have to send in the whole PDA.
Rating: Summary: Keen gear, Batman! Review: I bought my IIIc about a month ago, and can't imagine how I lived without color. Goodbye, my IIIxe! The device is much smaller and sleeker than any WINCE device, and fits easily in a shirt pocket. This is, frankly, about 33.33% of the reason that I went with another Palm. I can't see myself buying (or wearing) cargo pants so I can carry around an iPaq or Journada. Another 33.33% is usability. I am a heavy user of contact, scheduling, and task management tools. I looked at some of the newer WINCE devices, and they've improved their UI, but still have miles to go. Frankly, I don't want to tap the screen six times to enter a new contact or memo. Or eight times to beam my e-card to a contact. With my Palm, I press the address book button, and it turns on (instantly) to the address book. I start writing, and a new contact is automatically created. I _use_ my PDA, almost continuously throughout the day. I don't need MP3 music or MPEG video. Those have a high cool factor, but low usefulness for business. I need instant on, long battery life (8 hours, min.) and one-touch syncing. I need to be able to find 3rd party apps that meet my needs for less than $50.00 a pop. I also don't want to navigate the hideous Windows-based file hierarchy to find apps. WINCE can't deliver where it counts to a business. When they can, I'll switch over and have all my needed functionality AND the MP3s for the weekend. The other 33.33% is, of course, price. I have all the PDA functionality I need, and I paid about $200 less than my iPaq toting pals. Honestly, you can buy a reasonably capable laptop for the price of some WINCE devices. I'm using the extra cash to buy a modem and camera for my Palm. I love it!
Rating: Summary: Definitely Worth the Money Review: I bought the IIIc about a month ago. I love it! The color is very decent, with the ONLY problem being when I was in direct sunshine - then I couldn't see the screen at all. But, for me this is not an issue. The battery life has been great. I play alot of games on my Palm and I've not had to fully recharge yet. I definitely like having the color and am glad I spent the few extra bucks over the comparable B&W. The volume is adjustable, so playing games during biz meetings is not a problem. The Graffiti software is easy to pick up, however - I still have to write symbols on the keypad. Overall, the IIIc is very easy to use, I started using it right out of the box without having to use the manual. The color is great and the features are cool, too. I highly recommend this product. The only other product I would buy in lieu of the IIIc is a IIIc wireless.
