Rating: Summary: permanent resets - useless investment Review: i had bought a palm zire 21 3 weeks ago. It worked for a couple of days (maybe 10) then overnight it reset on its own - lost all the data. I tried to set it up again...2 days later again all the data was lost. I got a replacement for the palm 2 days. However today the palm reset on its own again. If you cannot relay on your calendar /tasks - it is worthless. therefore only 1 star.
Rating: Summary: Great choice! what else can you ask for at that price? Review: I have had my ZIre for a couple of months. It has done nothing but help me coordinate my outlook calendar, task list and contacts. It keeps my information at my fingertips and is very easy to work with. I found no problems with this handheld, it has never lost my data as previously reported. Of course I would love to have a tungsten but face it, its not gonna happen at this price. This is a great choice for a first handheld. It looks fun and looks very impressive I am told when kept in the Zire series hardcase which is not included but can run you 10-15 bucks. I read these reviews and several others before purchasing this and I decided to give it a try and my life is so much more organized now, boy am I glad I did!!!
Rating: Summary: Critical bug with Palm Zire 21 Review: I have read two other reviews and see that other people have been having the same problems that I have, that the Palm Zire 21 resets itself for no apparent reason. It happens to me about once a week. I have learned more from reading the other customer reviews than from calling Palms Support line. I have had great experiences with Palm, but not with the Palm Zire 21.
Rating: Summary: Screen needs improvement Review: I have this PDA and after around a month something got between the screen and can not be taken out.
Rating: Summary: This PDA loses data frequently. unbelievable really. Review: I ignored warnings from the other reviewers. I thought how is it possible this PDA loses data? Storing data is what all PDA is made for. Now I know that I was wrong. This PDA loses data.
Can you imagine that your computer loses the data on the hard drive every month and you have to reinstall everything again and again? Shame on you Palm.
Rating: Summary: Small, Dim Display says it all Review: I just wanted a basic PalmOS PDA to replace my battery-eating Handspring Visor. The price was right ($89 at Best Buy) but it turned out to be a terrible purchase. The display was so small and the contrast was so bad that I returned it the next day. I kept playing with the contrast control, assuming that no one would think of making a PDA that was so unusable in anything but an incredible bright room. I ended up buying a Palm m500 for $10 more and it, so far, is a far better device.
Rating: Summary: Excellent choice as a first PDA Review: I purchased this Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) as a christmas gift for my wife. This is not the most advanced, or feature-rich PDA on the market, but I wouldn't buy an HP iPAQ 5555 to my wife just because it's better. My wife is uninitiaded in the PDA arena, and I couldn't overwhelm her with dozens of features she, as a newbie would never use. The Zire 21 has all the basic capabilities for someone to get organized; Address Book, Calendar, Notes, you can even jot down handwritten notes using the Zire as a paper notepad. It's small, thin, light, fits perfectly almost anywhere and it does the job, period. Another plus is the internal battery, no need to buy AAAs or AAs anymore, there's a battery charger included and it only takes 2-3 hours to recharge completely.A CD is also included; it has the Palm Desktop software and the necessary drivers for the PC (or Mac) operating system to recognize the palm when you connect it using the USB cable. This software allows you to: 1- Enter the data on the PC instead of the PDA. 2- Transfer data between the PC and the PDA and synchronize both 3- It makes your PC act as a backup repository for your data. If for some reason your Palm data is erased, you may recover by re-sycnhronizing with the PC data. 4- It allows you to install 3rd party software that you download from the Internet. You don't need to have a PC or Mac to use the Zire, but it is strongly recommended to have one. I think the Palm Zire has the best value for the price, it's simple to operate and it looks nice (and this sentence rhymes). Good purchase
Rating: Summary: Should have listened to poor reviews Review: I read all the reviews before I got the product, but I should have listened to the reviews saying the product is poor. I had it for 1 month and it reset itself 5 times. It would reset and crash when I tried to download games (so I stopped that) and it would reset itself when it felt like it. It lost everything. It was not a battery problem, or my computer problem, but the handheld itself. I don't want to waste my time on another unit and I certainly don't trust the PALM technology. It also does not have a backlight which is a problem. I have returned to a dayplanner.
Rating: Summary: An excellent handheld Review: I read the reviews on Amazon and several other places before deciding to risk the bad reviews and buy this PDA. I was not dissapointed at all. For my purposes, it works great. I did not find the screen too small or dim, even though my primary use for it is reading eBooks. 8MB of RAM is plenty for me, since I can hold a few good-sized books plus some other software. I don't really need expansion, since I don't expect to play MP3s or hold the atlas and encyclopediae in my handheld. If you want to do that, then buy something better for a lot more money. However, if you want to read eBooks and you don't have bad eyesight, then get the Zire 21. I also use it for graphing functions in my math classes, and it works much faster than my dedicated graphing calculator does. I personally think that this handheld is underrated. I have had absolutely no problems with it since I purchased it several months ago, unlike people who had problems with resetting. I think that is a specific problem to the handheld only when it is near certain cell phones, and I don't use or own a cell phone, so I don't experience that problem. Battery life is excellent, and I can usually get by charging the battery for about 30 minutes once a week if I use it about 30-40 minutes a day. So I really have no big complaints.
Rating: Summary: Loses all of its data without warning!! Review: I received the Zire 21 as a Christmas present. It has been just over a month and I am already unhappy with my Zire 21. Twice the unit has reset itself and all of the information I entered in it was lost. What good is a unit that loses your information?!?!?! The Palm support has been no help at all with this problem. Do not buy the Zire 21!!!!
