Rating: Summary: get what you pay for Review: I actually thought it would have more options then it did. There is nothing to do with finances on the zire 21. It has never reset itself on me and really keeps a charge for a long time. I have had mine for a few months. Hard to see in dim light. Once again, lack of options. If you want a daily planner, mini organizer, and somewhere to keep phone numbers, and email addresses it is great.
Rating: Summary: Dissappointed Review: Bought this is June 2004. Was never able to hotsync correctly. We use outlook express, not outlook so that is part of the problem. The sales people at the store were no help and did not tell me any of the limitations of this product. The price was what sold me. When I got on the web site I discovered that only more expensive models will allow a conversion to outlook express. With hotsync never working correctly, we never transfered data. OUR MISTAKE!!! The stupid thing resets itself. We lost over 200 addresses, most of them for my husbands' business. Called tech support. Only have a 90 day warrenty, give me a break. Will cost 25 dollars for the phone call and 75 to repair. Now I have paid for it twice. And that is if I understood their broken English correctly! Don't buy this product. Spend your hard earned money on a better product, with a company that stands behind their products.
Rating: Summary: Nice starter PDA or even a good one for power users. Review: Comparing the specifications of this model PDA and, say, the Sony Clié, one might assume that this is only a PDA for beginners to Palm devices. And, you'd actually be right. This inexpensive Palm device is the perfect purchase for a newbie to PDAs. But it's even good for power users who don't need all of the fancy features of expensive PDAs. 8 megabytes is plenty of space for a device that doesn't store photos or MP3s, so you can easily fit your contacts, address book, some games and software, and a ton of eBooks and memos. The main advantages of this device are: 1. The extremely low price. 2. Has the new Palm OS 5. 3. ARM processor. 4. Infrared port, stylus, USB cable, charging plug, software, and everything you'll need to use this comfortably... besides a case. Cons: 1. No backlight. I haven't found this to be much of a problem except for in the dark. Even in medium-lit areas I can read fairly easy. 2. Black and white screen. 3. Not an ideal gaming machine because of the lack of additional buttons. 4. No multimedia support (color photos, fast games, MP3s.) I'd recommend this Palm device to anyone who's just getting started with PDAs or anyone who doesn't need the fancy features and wants to save some money.

Rating: Summary: No - It's NOT BAD LUCK! Review: Don't buy this product. I kept my cell phone right on top of it on my desk at work before I found out that this was why it reset itself. Also - after three months of keeping them that close, I can no longer press the bottom half of the screen because it doesn't register.

I owned this unit 4 months and it never happened until I bought a new cell phone. It's not coincidence - it's a flaw, and I wouldn't pay money for chance.

You could get a new phone - and bing, happen to you. Analyze your cell phone habits before you stick this one close to your phone in your purse. It's crappy - and Palm does nothing to make it right.
Rating: Summary: All most people will need. Review: Having used a Palm III, IIIxe, Tungsten E, and as of today, a Zire, I'd like to share my thoughts about the Zire and Palms in general. I feel that with Palms, the entry level gets you 90% of what you would ever use a PDA for, and you get to the point of diminishing returns very quickly after that. Color is not really important except for games; I don't want to look at pictures on that tiny screen; I don't want to read PDFs or Word documents; I myself have no reason to browse the Web on one of these things. However, the basic premise of the PDA is as cool now as it was when it was introduced, and the Zire delivers that. To address some specific criticisims of this model, I find the screen to be high quality. I was worried about the lack of a backlight until I realized I couldn't remember the last time I'd turned the backlight on when I was using the Palm III series. True, with the Tungsten, its beautiful screen did entice me to play chess in the dark... but that's not really a great thing. People who complain about contrast may not be aware that this is a software function, not a physical switch, on this unit. It *is* adjustable. All this at a price so low that if you destroy it -- which is quite possible -- you won't kick yourself, unless you don't have a backup.
Rating: Summary: palm Zire 21 Review: I am not an e wizzard nor will I use this devise to its max but I first owned a palm Phone and found it bulky and unreliable. This unit interfaces with out look well for my addresses and calander, has a calculator, an excellent note pad system, and the recharge battey system / power management that works flawlessly. I choose to use replaceable screen shield and threw away the closing cover. This makes it thiner and lighter. For 100 bucks this palm is excellent.
Rating: Summary: How many times can it lose my data? Review: I bought the Zire 21 about 4 weeks ago to replace my trusty old M125. It must've lost all my data 5 times already! For no apparent reason!!! Imagine what I go through when I haven't synced for a few days - I lose appointments, phone numbers, memos, etc.
Rating: Summary: Hello? This is a BASIC PDA Review: I gave my hardly used Sony Clie T615C to my fiancée and was using my old Palm III until I bought the Zire 21. I realized after owning a Palm III, Handspring Visor, Palm Vx, Sony Clie T615C, that all I really need a PDA for is addresses, notes, and scheduling. I don't need a camera, mp3 player, video player, web browser, etc. So the Zire 21's features and even lack of, were a good match for my needs, especially at the $99 price point. True, the display is black and white and the 160x160 resolution is inferior to a B&W Clie. But what does that really mean? I have NO problems reading text on the display. It is infinitely better than my old Palm III's screen. The only major drawback to the screen is the lack of a backlit option. Impossible to see in the dark or dimly lit room. Considering I'm only storing addresses, notes and appointments, 8MB is PLENTY with room for a few extra applications and games. No expansion possibilty however. The lack of color display vastly improves the battery life of the built-in lithium ion battery. I should be able to go nearly a month or more on a full charge. My color Clie couldn't go an entire week. The USB hotsync cable also acts as a trickle charger. My only complaint here is I wish they would've figured out a way to put the charging cable and hotsync cable into a single cable. Because of the lack of a cradle, I have to deal with two separate cables. However, this is a benefit for traveling. I used to have to take my Clie's cradle and giant power brick with me on trips. I have not had any of the same problems described by other reviewers regarding random resets, as of yet. And the 90 day warranty is pretty skimpy for an electronics product and reminds me of Sony. It'd be nice if they would stand behind their products, even if it is their entry-level product. Still, the Zire 21 is a very elegant and simple PDA and an excellent choice for those who are looking for a basic Palm powered device. With the upgraded memory, OS and processor, it is much more attractive than the original Zire at the same price point.
