Summary: A student's dream
Review: For Palm pros, this may seem like a worthless machine. But as a high schooler who bought one for $40, I'll tell you- this one of the best values you can get. I'm 16- I'm not a millionaire. But I also don't need to perform intricately difficult functions on my PDA. I need an organizer. And as far as that's concerned, the Zire is perfect for me. I use the address book and date book all the time- they do everything I need. The to do list is nice, as well. To tell you the truth, I don't need anything more. The Hot sync is fast and easy, and I'm not always concerned about losing the thing. I have all my data on the computer.

Summary: Palm pilot
Review: Great price for everything it includes. I like having something to keep me organized. The best thing is that I am aloud to use it at school, without getting in trouble.

Summary: Very Pleased
Review: I am very pleased with my Zire. It doesn't have a huge amount of memory, but if you need a capable organizer, this one is worth the money.......very affordable.

Summary: Get a PDA - cheap! But full-featured
Review: Normally the low end of a product line is lame-ified stuff. But the Zire is not lame-ified. It doesn't have expandibility or fancy geegaws or color or a backlight, but it gets the job done, and exceeds the capabilities of the Palm III - V generation.

I wasn't sure if I needed a PDA, but I got one of these and I am hooked on the "Palm Lifestyle". No more pawing at a pile of post-its and scibblings on the desktop - the PalmOS search feature finds it faster than I ever could. I've almost filled up the somewhat-meager 2MB memory with 8 or so programs I need - an encrypting notepad, sunrise/sunset/moon phase, mass transit schedules, a DOC format viewer, a couple games - but the new 8MB model should be enough for lots of stuff. This is the model you need if you're not sure you really need a PDA - if you decide to go back to (expensive!) little back book style calendars and phone numbers scribbled on scraps of paper, then you can just give it the inexpensive Zire away to your nephew instead of being stuck with an expensive toy.

I would only consider upgrading if my cell phone carrier (Verizon) ever comes out with a reasonably priced PalmOS phone.

Summary: Unsatisfied
Review: I had a lot of problems getting the PDA to "sync" up with my laptop (in order to transfer addresses, callender, etc). Customer Service was an absolute nightmare. Over the course of a week, I spoke to four representatives. Each of them was barely able to speak English and was unable to solve the problem. Each call lasted about 30 minutes.....Once the rep realized that he/she didn't know how to fix the problem, I was put on hold for 10-20 minutes then eventually disconnected. The PDA ifself is satisfactory, but I had such a wretched experiance with their service that I will never buy another Palm product again.

Summary: Everything you need at a great price.
Review: I moved over to this PDA after owning a pocket PC type PDA. The whole concept just simply didn't work for me; I loved the cool features and the fact that I had a full fledged OS in my pocket but as a PIM tool it was a nightmare. My two main concerns was that the battery only lasted an hour or two and that the sync technology was awful, I didn't see the point of a PIM tool if you had to be concerned about battery life and how well your data was syncing.

This lead me to the zire, I wanted a no frills tool that did exactly what it should, help me to get organized. The 2MB memory was not an issue as I was not planning on installing games, dictionaries, or other tools. I think you will find 2MB is more than enough to hold all your addresses and appointments. The lack of backlight is also not a problem, the screen is clear and crisp and I'm rarely in the dark when I need to make a phone call. I love the fact that in order to sync all you need is a USB cable (mini to normal) and that the Zire can charge itself over the cable. With my old PDA I would have to lug around a large cradle and power unit when I went on vacation. One final major advantage is the palm desktop, it is a very solid and flexible bit of software. I use it to export my PIM data and (flawlessly) upload it to Yahoo so my contacts are also online.

In conclusion, consider your PDA as a memory stick with a window to your PIM information and you will love the Zire to bits, especially the price. Think a PDA should be a full fledged gaming machine and office suite and you should be shopping for something else.

Summary: does what it claims
Review: This little workhorse does exactly what it claims to do: it is a basic organizer. I use the calender, the address list, the to-do list, and the alarm, on a regular basis. It is easy to learn and to use, to back up, to transfer data by cable or infrared technology, and is just the right size. Anymore options and it would have been more than I needed. The battery lasts for at least 30 days before I have to do a 1 hour re-charge. I think it is perfect for the price and could no longer fuction day-to-day without it.

Summary: Basic Palm with no bells and whistles
Review: I've used the Palm III for a few years. My wife got the Zire for her birthday and I checked it out for her. Not bad. It doesn't have the features a lot of us would spend a premium for, but it does what my wife needs it to do; store basic information. I agree that the major drawbacks would be no light and little memory. But to be realistic I rarely use my light and it should be plenty of memory for what she is doing. I also really like that it has a long battery life. These new ones witht the bright screens eat the battery up in like a day. Pretty good choice if you can be satisfied with not having a PDA, camera, video player, MP3 player, phone, tv, radio all in one unit. I'm just kidding, but you get my point. This would have been incredible 3 years ago. All the basics in a tight little package. Its a good buy.

Summary: Does what it is designed to do pretty well
Review: I got tired of carrying around my Franklin-Covey planner. All I wanted was a way to carry around my planner info in a small package. The Palm Zire does just that. It is a very basic, no-frills PDA that is designed to be a planner, period. It does that very well. If you want to load additional software, you are better off looking at the pricier Palms that have expansion card options.

Summary: I got a Palm Zire.
Review: I got a Palm Zire. I got it because it is a PDA that is not expensive. But unfortunately it is a bad PDA. Let me to tell you why: It has a bad screen very dark no light. It is boring. It is dull. Small memory and limited usefulness because it has a weak alarm. I don't like it. Even though it is cheap it is not worth it.
