Summary: Cost Effective Solution
Review: The Palm m130 has a sharp, bright screen, which can be used in any light conditions. The provided software provides an effective platform for storing MS applications for easy access during presentations or meetings. Palm also offers an extensive array of applications that are easily downloadable. The only complaint I have is the 8 MB of memory supplied, but upgrading the memory still makes this unit a hundred dollars less than other competing color models

Summary: Great For Students
Review: I bought this along with the GoType keyboard after getting hand cramps while writing notes in classes. Typing notes beats writing them by a mile! THe PDA has worked flawlessly, and the display is easy to read in room light. It is quite difficult to view in sunlight, but I didn't purchase it for outside use, really. There is so much useful free or inexpensive software available for the Palm OS too! The only downside I can think of is that 16MB of memory would have been much better than 8MB, but there is a firm that will upgrade the PDA to 16MB for $100, so there is hope. Also, the ROM is not flashable, so future OS updates are not possible. Overall, a great value.

Summary: Rebate hell
Review:

About the m130. It is a fun gadget, though I am experiencing screen envy with other PDAs that have larger screens. When you put on the clear screen cover, to protect against scratching, the stylus sensitivity is greatly diminished. I still miss my good old fashioned hand written datebook. The Palm m130 is helpful for telephones and addresses--though initially you have to enter all the data manually. Also, any add ons have to be bought, there are few free-bees.

Summary: Very Low Quality
Review: I bought a Palm m130 and it couldn't be recharged. Sent it back and got a "new" one which worked pretty well for about a month then the touchpad became erratic. For example, the down arrow wouldn't work. Then it began to "freeze." I would tap and nothing would happen. Palm tech. support suggested some adjustments which resulted in my touching one letter and getting a different one. Finally sent it back and just received it back again. The return was fast and it seems to work, but I have little confidence in this product.

Summary: L-O-V-E- it!
Review: I am a first time Palm user. I checked out the previous versions and although cheaper, the grey scale screen just screamed "outdated and boring". Althought I originally wanted an iPaq, it was WAY too pricey and the Palm m130 does everything I really need. I read in someone else's review that you can sync it to your Microsoft Money program, and since I figured out how to do that, it has made tracking my banking, expenses, & investemts much, much easier. As a small business owner, I can also keep track of my business calendars and info separately from personal stuff. It's actually great for busy professionals/moms/dads/people on the go! I just love it!

Summary: Great Palm For A Great Price
Review: The Palm m130 is a great PDA for anyone. Nearly everything about it pleases me. After I bought it I thought it would take a while to learn how to use (especially the "graffiti"), but I found that I had gotten the hang of it after 15 minutes. Even the graffiti was simple and easy to learn. Here are some Pro's and Con's for you to consider:
Pro's: -Easy to learn and use
-Runs fast
-High quality color
-HotSync is easy to set up and only takes about 30 seconds to complete
-The 8MB of memory it comes with is expandable, so you never have to worry about running out of memory
-The price is exellent, epecially when you compare it with other PDA's from other companies
-The battery is rechargable

Con's -When you use the stylus around the edges of the screen it sometimes won't read your command
-Battery (which is rechargable) drains somewhat quickly, but this doesn't matter that much because each time you HotSync it charges up...

Summary: I recommend the Palm m130 PDA (updated)
Review: I've never owned a PDA before but the Palm m130 is a very nice unit and works well. I use it everyday and think it's a wonderful tool to have around. One thing I really like is the ability to sync my MS Money 2003 (on my computer) with the m130 at a touch of a button...nice! So while on the road I can enter items purchased in the PDA and sync it with my computer when I get home.

(update) I didn't realize if your battery was dead for any length of time you'd lose all of your downloaded programs. I had purchased several programs for my PDA on the Internet, downloaded them, used them for some time, but after my Palm sat around the house for a few months without use...poof! they're gone. So keep it charged or say goodbye to your after market software!

Summary: A big irritation
Review: I received the palm m130 as a christmas gift. I have been very pleased with the options you have with it, the games you can download, the color, the use, etc. But I have found that if brought into the cold, and in MN is it unavoidable, it will loose all it's information. Reseting it doesn't even work. You have one option, to click ok and everything is gone. It has happened on 3 occasions now. At first I thought it was because the battery level was too low, but that just was not the case.
If it wasn't for the ability to hot sync I would have lost every appointment, every telephone number. I did have to go and reload all the games. It has been getting pretty irritating.
I can never predict when it is going to happen.

Summary: A PDA that the layperson can use
Review: I have had the palm 130 for three weeks and havae found it useful for keeping personal and business appointments, grocery shopping, and for a financial quick reference. I was able to start using the basics after installation. The Grafitti feature was suprisingly easy to learn; considering that it looked like something out of Gregg's Shorthand. I was using it the first day.

The games or books that can be downloaded or added are fun and helpful. A solitaire game or hearts game can come in handy at the DMV or the dentist's office. I plan on adding the Powergraph and Dictionary/Thesaurus for math and literature classes at a later date.

The drawbacks are that the battery power drains noticeably after about 20 minutes of use. This is a minor drawback considering that this is a color device. I have also found when tapping near the corner of the screen, it sometimes won't "take" for lack of a better word.

Although, I've never used or owned the PalmZire(?), I would recommend this 130 model. The next reason: it is expandable at least to 32MBS. The last is that it's color.

The Palm 130 is a useful, fun and easy to use device. You don't have to be a computer wizard to get started.

Summary: Does the Job!
Review: I Bought my wife an M130 as her first PDA. She loves the shape and the little color screen. She uses it mainly for PIM functions. I wanted to buy a HandSpring product, having been an early adopter of their technology with my Visor Prism. Unfortunately, many problems with the Prism and/or software, HotSync, Tech. Support issues forced me to look elsewhere. Based on my son's satisfaction with his Palm M105, I decided to go with the Palm M130.

After setting up my wife's M130, I found it to be a solid performer with very little to complain about. The screen is small and the battery life is limited. But, as I see it, if I wanted a larger screen and longer battery life, I'd opt for either a PocketPC device or a small "notebook" computer. Both of which I have used; neither of which are conveniently sized to take along wherever I go. For me, something as simple as the cute, plastic "flip-top" cover with a window for checking the time, makes a big difference. My wife can throw her M130 in her purse and take it wherever needed.

This little device is great for us. I recommend it highly. Until higher resolution color PDA's become affordable, the M130 will do the job!

I guess my wife was listening to my rave reviews (or my complaining about my Visor Prism). She surprised me with one of my own for a Christmas present. I couldn't be happier and I'm glad to be done with the HandSpring Visor Prism.

After loading Vindigo and HandStory, the 8MB of memory quickly fills up. I picked up two 16MB SD memory cards and we are now as happy as clams! My Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are on the expansion card (SD Memory) along with .PDB audio files I use with NetMite's audio player AND about 20 .JPGs I downloaded for use with PhotoSuite. I also have a few eBooks (Vonnegut's "Player Piano" and a historical non-fiction book called "Samurai William"). PalmReader Pro 2.2 and eBook fontpack make all the difference when reading on the M130. I highly suggest them.

I figure I'll use the M130 for a few years before going to a Palm OS 5.0 (or later) device or, possibly, a PocketPC PDA. Until then, I am very satisfied and happy with the M130.
