Summary: Excellent handheld for the budget-minded
Review: Palm has a true winner with this device. Sure, it's not as [nice] as the m515, but at this price, who cares?! If you are wondering whether or not color is worth the extra expense, I can say YES it absolutely is. I find the color devices so much easier to read, particularly in the somewhat dim lighting where the dreaded reverse backlighting of the greyscale Palms just makes the screen even harder to read. Color is a delight in these situations! And of course, games really rock with color. Bejeweled is one for instance, that I find a LOT harder to play without the color.

The screen is a bit smaller, but that actually makes the fonts and images a little crisper since there's not as much space between pixels. The unit is nice to hold, and gets a fair amount of life out of the rechargeable batteries. The screen is tough to read outside like the IIIC, so do keep that in mind if you intend to use it outside much.

Plenty of memory and the SD slot if you need more should make this a PDA you won't need to replace for quite some time.

Summary: Good for the money
Review: I bought my M130 over a month ago. I was quite impressed with it for the money.....but, my unit has had problems since I started using expansion cards. My unit freezes and sometimes doesn't respond right when I tap on the screen. I have sent it back to Palm...here's hoping by replacing the inside of the unit, my problem will be solved. I still think it is a good product. I guess I got a lemon.

Summary: I LOVE MY PALM PILOT!!
Review: My husband just bought me the m130. This is my first palm pilot and I love it!! The color is just awesome and the features are so easy to use!! As soon as the batteries were charged, I started using my palm. I can read my email when I'm on BART and even have access to the internet. I no longer have to get out my phone book to look up a number or an address and I no longer have to carry my appointment book with me. The to do list is very handy. No more stickies everywhere as reminders!! I also love the m130's capability of expanding!!!! I was sold on the Handspring Visor Prism and was going to purchase it when palm came out with the m130. My husband said let's go check out the palm before you buy the Handspring. I'm sure glad we did!! Thank you Palm!!

Summary: For the price, easily one of the BEST hand held's available
Review: It wasn't long ago when I was a first time PDA user, and after a bumpy start purchasing one of the worst devices manufactured by man, I moved to the Palm Operating System and I've been pretty satisfied ever since.

I have had the opportunity to use several different Palm devices ranging from the Visor Platinum, the Visor Pro, the Visor Edge, Palm m125 and now the brand new Palm m130. While I consider myself an electronic junkie, I however do NOT have the income that would allow me the opportunity to buy all of the devices that strike me as 'Cool'...but I have been very fortunate to have wealthy friends who have either loaned me theirs, or outright gave me their old ones after they found the next-best thing...consequently, I have had the chance to compare quite a few of these neat little hand held's with actual practical use.

Without boring you with how I got ahold of an m130, I CAN tell you that Palm definitely has produced the finest color hand held device available -- for the money. If money is no object, go for the new Palm m515, but let me explain why the m130 is really worth the money:

The m130 includes Palm OS 4.1 (over the m125's 4.0), an amazing color screen with incredible clarity & last-but-not-least: rechargeable batteries. Just think about it, depending upon how often you use your Palm, if you get one that uses standard batteries, after a while the m130 will have paid for the extra cost over an m125 in batteries alone.

The amazon reviewers noted a small annoyance with the outer edges of the touch screen being not as sensitive, and I made a point of testing this specifically to see if this was an on-going problem or just an isolated glitch with the model they happened to test, and I am happy to say mine works just fine. I have noticed that every once in a while a *bad* product lands on somebody's lap, but for every *poor* model manufactured, there are many more that work perfectly. So I guess ultimately it depends on luck to some extent. Even Mercedes makes a lemon every now and then, so you can't expect every single electrical device to work flawlessly from a manufacturing plant that produces these things by the thousands.

One more thing, the opportunity to upgrade this item with the expansion slot definitely IS something to take into account when you are thinking of buying a hand held. From expandable memory cards to cards with games, maps, books, dictionaries even language translations, it is important to have this option if you plan on putting yours to good use and are worried you might exceed the standard 8mb memory. I haven't had to use mine -- yet, but I am fairly certain I will at some point. Also, if you have yet to put your infra-red port to good use, I urge you to take advantage of this exceptional ability that most hand helds come standard with these days. Other than the operation systems that come with your Palm, you can *beam* almost anything else you can download to your Palm to another one in a very short amount of time. I have shared games with friends, books, resumes and even my business card with some friends of mine and business partners in the blink of an eye. Wirelessly, seamlessly you can transmit this information, and I kid you not when I say this is largely an untapped resource that makes owning a hand held almost invaluable in the business world today--especially if you work or come into contact with many people who use one as well. Give it a try, if you haven't already you will soon discover how convenient this really can be. Ultimately, like I said earlier, for the price, the m130 is easily one of the BEST devices available today. Give one a shot and good luck.

Summary: Great price...great display
Review: This is my second Palm..my first was the IIIc. I upgraded to the m130 because of the expandibility, and the more compact size. It's easy to run, looks cool, feels good in your hand, and the display is very good.I'm very satisfied. I don't think I'll be needing another upgrade for quite some time. This one does it for me!

Summary: Palm m130
Review: After comparison shopping, this PDA turned out to be the best deal. Mac compatibility was a must and I had no problem even with the first hotsync. The color screen isn't the greatest, but my expectations were not that high for it. The biggest drawbacks are that accessories are not readily available in local stores yet because the model is so new, and the cool metal cases are not compatible with this model. I would highly recommend the overlays for the screen as it already seems to accumulate dust in the corners, and fingerprints and smudges are easier to see with color. All in all, it's a good entry level PDA.

Summary: For the newer palm user!
Review: This is my third pda (second palm and one handspring) and I'm totally satisfied with the product. Palm has leapfrogged over the palm clones or 'wannabees' in features and pre-packaged software. The screen clarity is more than acceptable under most conditions, the rechargeable battery lasts plenty long in normal uses and the 4.1 OS (operating system) has some nice new features. Finally, the expansion ports are great to save files or applications without sacrificing the 8 megs on the handheld palm.

Especially nice is the new feature note pad, which allows you to simply write or print a note directly on the screen without the need of graffiti or opening the memo pad. This is useful when you need to write quick--like when you're checking your voice mail and recording information. It's just like the sticky notes you use for writing down everything. Only these sticky notes don't get lost! The palm reader is a nice addition to read the increasingly popular e-books. I've added 3 books to the m-130 and the reader works great and even has an auto-scroll so you can read at your own pace. The calculator function(s) is much improved from earlier palms with the business and other math functions.
Finally the accompanying software, DataVis' Documents To Go for one, let you compose or edit word, excel, or powerpoint files and transfer the files to/from your desktop or laptop.
Overall, this is a good product, that is very functional and reliable, at a relatively inexpensive price!

Summary: One of the best purchases I have ever made
Review: After using my greyscale Visor for about a year I finally decided to upgrade to a color handheld. After much deliberation between the Visor Prism (too bulky and screen is less than to be desired), Clie series...and the PocketPC's...I decided to go with the Palm m130. When it arrived I did a clean Palm desktop install (recommended) and it has worked perfectly since its first HotSync. The smaller screen is not a problem because of its crisp, bright, picture compared to greyscale (and most other color screens). My only complaint is that the bright screen gets a little washed out in direct sunlight. I would recommend this handheld to anyone looking for a high quality handheld for an resonable price...

Summary: A good balance of features
Review: After three years squinting at grayscale screens, I finally gave up. The bright color screen of the m130 well worth the extra price. As I compared it against much more expensive models in the stores (Clie for example) the m130 has the most readable screen. The lower resolution compared to the top-end Clie models doesn't hurt much and you save almost 50%. The small screen size doesn't bother me, I suppose because I was used to it from my previous m100.

I considered the Pocket PC devices too but they are triple the price and more aimed at the enterprise. Palm has a wealth of useful software for consumers, much of it free. One of my favorites is AvantGo. Read the news etc. while waiting in line or otherwise bored.

I am having trouble installing the free MGI picture viewer software into my Windows XP computer but otherwise the applications work fine.

I am impressed with the rechargeable battery. Having been used to the two AAA's lasting a month on the grey models, I was worried. But it recharges quickly and easily.

It comes with the world's ugliest PDA coverplate, though. No doubt they are trying to irritate you into buying a replacement cover.

Summary: geat buy for the money
Review: This is my first pda and I am really impressed with this modle. The color screen is clear and bright and it has all the functions needed for the price.
