Summary: Very Nice PDA
Review: I agree that there are a lot of PDAs out there with hunkier features like WiFi (HP ipaq) or with integrated cell phones (Tungsten), but I think this PDA has the best bang for the buck! The digital camera is of a surprisingly good quality, though I think that the screen quality is better in the HP ipaq. I found the operating system to be very stable. I recently bought a SanDisk SD memory card for the PDA and that works well with it too. I also recommend the ViewSonic Customer Service highly. I had a defective item at first, which they replaced immediately without any hassle. I would definitely recommend the PDA!

Summary: Looking for the best PDA on the market? Here it is!
Review: I am a computer geek. I admit it, and I am a previous Black-and-White Handspring Visor Edge owner, and a Sony Clie NR70 (color). If you are looking, I would advise you not to buy SONY (overpriced, only compatible with SONY Software & SONY Memory Sticks, does not work easily with "Non-SONY" software... (trust me - been there, done that). Especially if you use WINDOWS XP. It is very hard to sync your palm. I have many times had to re-download drivers, new versions of PALM Software, and many times even uninstall and reinstall the hardware every time I would synchronize with my brand new WINDOWS XP computer (more or less 15-30 setup time to get my computer to recognize my palm). However it's not that bad for WINDOWS 98 users - 5 minutes at most. I've been researching, (I mean long hours researching) for the perfect PDA. Researched Dell, HP/Compaq, Palm (extensively), even e-bay to compare prices. After all my research I finally came upon a winner! The new ViewSonic V36. In the time that it normally takes me just to get my palm to start synchronizing, I had opened the Amazon.com box, installed software (Microsoft Activesync (one-time install, less than 5 minutes) synchronized it, and installed some programs and even some mp3's (really fast) all before school! I also love the way the device hierarchy (arrangement of folders)is set up, just like my WINDOWS XP Computer (example: My Device; My Documents, Programs, Windows, etc.) Its synchronization is extremely fast, and because it runs WINDOWS MOBILE POCKET PC 2003 edition, I synchronize with doing anything! (not even installing drivers). With its combination of MP3/WAV player, Digital Camera, Personal Organizer, Student Planner, Voice Recorder,
64 MB of memory, best bang for buck, and much more, it truly is the best Plug-and-Play PDA on the market! I'm not joking!

Summary: Cheap Price.......
Review: I brought this right before Christmas based on Internet reviews. I was very pleased with the V36 until after a few days when it started to shut itself off to where I had to do a soft reset. It doesn't do it all the time and sometimes doesn't happen for days. Its not a terrible thing, I don't loose any data but it is somewhat inconvenient when you want to jot down a quick note . I called Viewsonic and they sent me a replacement. After a few days the replacement started doing the same thing. I email Veiwsonics tech support and they said that it is a problem that they are working on. Recently (I've only had this replacement for about a month) this new replacement has started a new thing where the screen starts getting fuzzy and then nonresponsive to where I have to do a soft reset. When my V36 works, it works great and the little camera is nifty but not something that I would take a family photo with.

Summary: Poor construction, overpriced, but takes great pictures
Review: I have brought this V36 from Compusa and I have had to return twice within 3 months. This unit is overpriced for its features and capablities. If you are thinking of buying this product I would recommend buying eaither a HP Pocket PC or a Dell Pocket PC. Also if you are thinking about putting a Wi-Fi (SD) Card and using it to access the internet and e-mails I would extremly advise you not to buy this product.
But in saying this all the camera included in this PDA takes great pictures and even takes long video shoots.
So far Compusa has stopped selling the product and I have recently brought a Dell Axim X30 which works great.

Summary: Very hard to beat for the price
Review: I have worked with Windows CE/Pocket PCs from the very first models (loved the Philps Velo ;-)), and have always appreciated their functionality. I do quite a bit of research when upgrading to a new PDA/Pocket PC. And considering the price ($200 after a $100 rebate) the V36 is pretty much unbeatable. The screen equals the iPAQs I have used at work over the years, and the V36 is smaller/lighter (a big requirement for me since I carry mine in my pocket). It has a nice processor, generous memory and I agree with other reviews that the camera takes surprising good pictures (albeit you do need good light and the pictures are low res). The fact that the V36 has an SDIO slot (not just an SD slot) is a huge plus for me as well. I use my unit to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots daily and an SDIO slot is necessary to support any of the 802.11b cards on the market (I use a SanDisk ConnectPlus card that is both an 802.11b card and 256MB flash memory card in one - a perfect compliment for this device btw). For a total of about $315 ($200 for the V36 and about $115 for the Sandisk Wi-Fi + Flash memory card) I have a small light, powerful Pocket PC with lots of memory, wireless connectivity and a camera! (compare that price to some of the competing PDAs that have integrated Wi-Fi (and no camera) and you're looking at $500-$600) The V36 is probably the best deal on the market :-) At least it is for me.

Summary: Annoying problems spoiled the value
Review: I just returned my third Viewsonic V36 in less than two weeks. Here were the problems and reason I am not buying another one: 1) Crackling sound 2)Backup battery never charged up 100% thus an annoying message would appear that said you need to recharge your backup battery or you will lose data 3) During average use, the battery only lasts for 1 - 2 days until you have to recharge. 4) Customer service is horrible. They never responded back to my problems and I called them 4 times! 5) The camera takes low quality pictures 6) The screen res is horrible. This is strange since Viewsonic makes decent monitors. 7) The playback audio, ie voice memo playback, is too soft to hear in a car. 8) Need I say more. Don't buy this unless you can deal with these issues. Other than that the price is pretty good for this end model.

Summary: GREAT !!!
Review: I purchased my V36 in Dec. 2003, and absolutely "Love" it. My purchasing criteria was; great price, lots of extras, Color Screen & Camera. The other brands had those options, but charged extra for them, sometimes $100 - $200 dollars more. The ViewSonic V36 came standard with a camera, 64K Memory, lots of software & a $100 rebate as well. Hands down the best deal for my money.I have a small business, and I keep all my personal & business data on my Viewsonic V36 Pocket PC with plenty of memory to spare. Although Amazon's editorials don't tell you this, the ViewSonic V36 does come with a small pocket case, a stylus, charging adapter, & USB Sync cord. I highly suggest you purchase the sync & charging craddle. If you are prone to dropping things like I am, you might want to buy the optional Viewsonic carrying case, that alone has saved my Pocket PC from destruction, a few times already. And unfortunately, NO.... they are not paying me for this review. LOL

Summary: Please BeWare and ForeWarned!
Review: I purchased this product and within 2 months it starts to behave in a strange way, out of no where. It goes from working perfectly to shutting down without warning. I contacted Tech Support, with them providing a method of re-starting, but of course I lose all information data. It restarts but only for a few days, then shuts down and will not re-start. This continues for 5 months. I communicate again with Tech Support, they give instructions for sending unit in to be checked. They call me stating unit is not covered under warranty due to a cracked display, which was not the case at all when I very carefully packaged and shipped it. It was in "like new" condition, had never been dropped nor mishandled. The cost to repair was $270.00!! I refused to go with that option and will never buy another of their products. In my opinion their customer service and tech support is lousy and certainly not trustworthy. There are too many other good choices of products out there to have to worry about being "hung out to dry" with a worthless warranty.

Summary: Superb Value!
Review: I recently bought the Viewsonic V36 as a Christmas gift. Although this is easily the least expensive PDA at this processor/memory level (Intel 300MHz XScale processor, 64MB RAM, 32MB ROM), it performs extremely well and is very well designed. I originally intended to purchase the HP IPAQ 1945 which has very similar specs to the V36 but was sold on the Viewsonic with the $100 lower price tag (the actual cost is $299 less a $100 mail-in rebate; the HP is $299 with no rebate). The HP 1945 has integrated Bluetooth which the V36 lacks but the V36 has a nice integrated 300KP camera which is not available on the HP (the camera works quite nicely in well-lit conditions and can take both still and moving images). (Note: If you need WiFi capability, there is an optional 802.11b SDIO card available for the V36 for $129 that plugs into the sole SD card expansion port.) Also, the V36 will accept a standard headphone plug for listening to MP3s while the HP requires an adapter for its miniplug. The 3.5" screen is clear and bright and identical in quality to the HP. All other hardware/software specs for the HP 1945 and V36 are identical (well, okay the HP is a half inch shorter and half an ounce lighter but that's not really worth the hundred bucks price difference to me).

Setup of the unit is a breeze (you'll barely need the included manual) and synchronizing the unit with a PC is fast and effortless. Everything you need to get up and running is included in the box (USB adapter cable, power cable, companion CD with MS ActiveSync and MS Outlook 2002, and a carry case). I highly recommend the Viewsonic V36 PDA.
