Summary: Never be without something to read again
Review: This is an awesome device. My main use for it is as an ebook. I bought my self a cheap OEM 64MB SD expansion card (don't waste your money on Palm's memory offerings) and now I have quite a library stored on it - including many newly published books. It's incredibly convenient and the display is always good enough to read text in just about any situation. To be able to carry such a large library in such a small package is pretty incredible and I don't believe there is any other device that can carry so much without bulging your pockets.

It's not so good as a games device as it's a little too small and the colour display isn't as vibrant as games players might like.

And of course I also use it as diary, address book and notebook...

Summary: Christmas gift to Husband.
Review: I took a quick peek at what the screen looks like since it had poor ratings. In my opinion, since the product is so small, we should not expect the detail of a large screen. It appears to be bright enough to read, but it does need to moved around to compensate for lighting around you.

Summary: Satisfying gadget, but steep cost.
Review: The reigning king of PDAs, at least for now. The device comes with 16MB of memory - and a small removable storage slot for additional space - more than enough room for phone numbers, appointments and applications. The color screen is crisp and clear, though the backlighting is fairly dim. In addition, the m505 rates high on the 'coolness' scale with a sleek design that rivals gadget king Sony. Still, the price is steep. And with recent introductions of a new generation of PDAs by HP, Sony and Compaq, the m505's time at the top may be waning. If you can find the right price, I say go for it.

Summary: Not really worth getting
Review: I've owned the m505 and I was disapointed by the backlight on the display being so dim. I use to use my Casio E125 as a flashlight (limited to 4-5 ft) in the dark. The software bundle is pale at best and the unit itself is too light (you cant tell if you have it with you or not). As far as the SD slot is concerned its a complete waste of time and palm should concentrate on the "standard" expandable slot on the bottom and making addons or sleeves for it.

Summary: Palm m505? Cool...
Review: I recently purchased the m505 from Amazon a week ago... along with a SanDisk 32MB SD card. Charged it up for several hours while I went to Best Buy and bought the Kensington PDA Protector.

After using it for a week or so, (quickly filling up the 32MB expansion) I have come to the conclusion that it is a nice PDA (not exactly cheap though!)if you have money to spend.

I would for the most part agree with what I've heard and read and that is you must decide what it is exactly what you want to accomplish with it - in my case I needed expanability and it was worth it for me spend a little extra for the color screen which is not awful nor great, but could had been better I think for the money that one is paying.

And it is too bad that Palm DIDN'T include any software to effectively use the memory expansion capabilities. In order for the Palm to be really useful with in this case you will need 3 essential programs to do this:

- McFile or FileZ
- PowerRun or TealMover
- PiDirect or MSMount

The Palm is faster that the Vx I previously owned, but once you start moving things into Expansion RAM, etc. it goes from really fast to just fast (faster that the Vx anyhow).

And the screen appears to attract dust faster than a storm, so you will want to get a protector ASAP. I recommend the Brando protector.

All in all a decent PDA. If Palm were to knock [down] the price, they would have a winner!!

Summary: How you use it drives the M505's suitability
Review: The biggest issue around the M505 has to be the screen. While the color intensity/brightness is no match for the Clie (for Palm platform) or the Casio E-125 (PocketPC platform) it is still the best form factor for use in a work environment where portability and minimal size is key. While the color screen is far from vivid, it is respectable. Palm has posted an application modification that will allow you to leave the backlight on whenever the unit is powered up. Even with the light on, the unit only needs charging every 3-4 days with moderate daily use. The M505 provides an acceptable color screen for 90% of the applications. The shortfall is if you opt to use the M505 for pictures or intense gaming. There it falls short and you should look to the Sony or a PocketPC. For daily use as a PDA (datebook, contact list, etc.) it's a great choice.

Summary: Very good, all things considered
Review: A good upgrade from a Palm III or V. This is the first Palm device I've found so useful that I've nearly filled up all 8 MB of built-in RAM.

You may have heard the screen is so-so. I disagree. While it's not the best in the handheld market, it is certainly an improvement over the Palm V (especially the backlight). Just be realistic with your expectations. Games bring out the best in the color screen.

Expandability with the SD card is very useful, although unfortunately SD cards don't expand available program memory. They provide only secondary storage space. Therefore some programs can't be copied onto the SD card, and will continue to use up valuable memory.

The change in the connector is a nuisance, as it makes Palm V accessories obsolete. However, the included Mobile Connectivity software, plus a GSM phone negate the need for an OmniSky or Palm Modem in many cases. I've used SMS and connected to Web Clipping using my ISP without a hitch on my GSM phone without having to buy anything extra. Hint - Palm's Nordic site has some Motorola and Nokia phone drivers that aren't on the USA site.

Summary: its good
Review: The combination of Palm V styling AND color is so comfortable and welcoming.

I've been through the Palm III, V, Handspring Visor, and I had the latest Sony PEG N760-C. The Palm m505 is definitely less clear, less colors and less bells ansd whistles than the Sony color PDAs. But its the good ol' palm V you know and love. Sony fell short of that for me when their PDA randomly and without warning or abuse just DIED on me, and I am still waiting for their return authorized box.

The Palm m505 is the perfect combination of form and function.

Once you go color, when you next see a monochrome palm again, you will be suprised at how lacking monochrome is. Also, the Palm M505 hotsyncs like USB lightning, and has a unique back-lit silkscreen, which pemits writing graffitti easily in 0 Lux. So give away your monchrome palm to someone with good eyes.

Summary: Great pda
Review: This pda is great. From reading the reviews about the screen I almost didn't buy this but I saw it in person at a store. It looks good there but there are brighter screens next to it like the Sony. Well I bought it and I just love it. It's nice and small and with and without the backlight on, the palm m505 still looks great. Don't worry about the battery life because if you compare this battery life to other color pda's, it's about the same. You get is a great looking pda the functions like what it's meant to do. Organize your appointments and tasks. I had a handspring platinum before and it was almost unusable in the dark with its reverse lighting. With this pda, I read in bed with it and do my banking with pocket quicken (not included). Hey what's a PDA if you can't bring it along with you? With the Palm M505 you can stick it in your pocket and it keep you up to date with your day to day tasks.

Summary: From Sony Clie 760c back to Palm M505
Review: After using the Sony 710c, and then the 760c for a short stint, I missed the speed and easy use of the Palm m505.

So, i returned the Clie, and repurchased the M505, and am now a very happy camper.

Of course the screen can be better, but for what I use it for, and the price I bought it for, I could not go wrong.

Amazon had this item for a great price last week, with free shipping, and no tax for NY residences. This is a savings of almost $... compared to the sony clie.

I can live without the slow clie, due to the high res, and memory sticks. No real need to have my PDA play MP3's either.

Long live Palm!!!
