Rating: Summary: Good Device, but one serious problem Review: Overall, I like my m505. I had no problems with it until yesterday, when it stopped hotsyncing with the USB cradle. I researched this on the web, and it turns out it's a known problem caused by static discharge. Palm will exchange the device (and the cradle), but you get a refurbished palm pilot. This means that somebody else used and abused it (and ultimately zapped it). There have been quality problems with these. More to the point, it's just a temporary fix... the problems can and do occur again. Check out the horror stories on the web, particularly at places like palminfocenter.com The good news: This doesn't seem to affect the serial interface. That's what I use now. It's slower, but more reliable. And for a tool such as this, isn't reliability the most important virtue it can have?
Rating: Summary: HotSync problem! Review: Do not buy this product. HotSync problem due to electrostatic discharge. Shoddy help. I lost my back-up file on my PC after they suggested I uninstall the software (and uninstalled my personal data). This ESD problem is not easily fixable and they will not simply replace your handheld. Would stay away from Palm. I am going to get a PocketPC.
Rating: Summary: I've used it for a year with no problems! Good PDA. Review: I got my m505 in December '01 and have used it for a year now. I upgraded from a Palm IIIc and synching with my old data was a no brainer. I've had virtually no problems for the past year, and couldn't live without it for business as well as personal use (Date Book, Memos and Contacts are my primary uses, I'm not a game ...). Only problem I've had (I've noticed this in some other reviews) has been that of the power button protruding enough to be pressed when stored in your brief case, thus running the battery down. It's happened to me once in the past year, although I had a portable charger with me. When I recharged it my data was still there! (Not sure if this is guaranteed and it WOULDN'T have been the case with my IIIc.) Overall, I'm VERY satisfied.
Rating: Summary: DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!BAD! SO BAD!!!!!!!The ABSOLUTE WORST!!!! Review: The M505 is the absolute worst! After three mo., of good service,it develops a static electricity problem w/ hotsync.(no Hot sync ability) Support gave me a 6 week runaround and then finally admitted that it was/is a chronic problem. I had to wait 5 weeks to get a replacement (.."didn't have a used unit to replace my 4 mo.old NEW unit!!!!!!!!) Total B.S.! Finally, I received replacement unit that was scratched...1 week later I receive a new one but the stylus won't stay in place...Said that it also was a manufacturing defect. 2 weeks later I receive a new one. It syncs and freezes...4th replacement I received is again new...it works fine until (by accident)the power button is depressed and held "on" in my brief case and twice in my coat jacket. Power light button remains illuminated, no display, no function, requires HARD RESET. Lost ALL Info. This was particularly bad while traveling overseas and no access to my sync PC.to retreive the data. Lost all my addresses, tel, info. A bad situation on a business trip. RUN AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL Review: I love this Palm. I use it everyday and have had NO problems with it. Would recommend to anybody.
Rating: Summary: Disaster, deserves a recall or class suit Review: I have had my partner's palm 505 replaced for 3 times now. The latest problem is with its battery. I've had two other palms a V and IIIc which both don't have any problems and still are going strong. The 505 is a disaster! It deserves a recall or a class suit. It has caused us sleepless nights thinking how to recover lost data.
Rating: Summary: A good first effort Review: Palm wanted to develop a high end color PDA to substite the award winning Palm V and Vx, It was a good first effort but not enough as Palm costumers expected. Fortunately m515 appeared with a better screen, more RAM and a more developed Operating System. I really was very disappointed with this model, I prefered to stay with my Palm Vx until m515 was released by Palm.
Rating: Summary: DO NOT BUY IT, buy a CLIE instead Review: The internal device that locks the expansion card is very sensitive, if by any reason you push the card beyond what it was designed for (Who calculated that force was maybe a little 2 years old kid), you can brake it and therefore you will not be able to insert it back (it will not lock)...
Rating: Summary: Great PDA Review: I have been using a Handspring Visor for many years now (at least 2) and have had little use for it due to the lack of memory. (Only 2MB) I should have upgraded sooner. However, the Palm m505 just feels more finished. The Handspring felt more like a toy, and the batteries never lasted long enough. With this device, the batteries charge on the cradle, and the weight is better, as seems to be the touch screen sensitivity. I have only had my Palm m505 for a a day and I am already in love. 8 MB of RAM (Which I WILL be expanding even further) and the fit and finish of this device just called to me. I will be using it more, I can tell already (Grafiti just works!, It recognizes more of my symbols). Anyway, so far I would definitley recommend this Palm device for anyone looking to do serious notetaking and work on the machine.
Rating: Summary: Palm m505 Review: got the product promptly. works great, i used to have the Palm IIIxe (which was stolen when i was at school). nevertheless, the m505 works great (only complain is the the screen sharpness). i would recommend it to anyone (the m515 w/ 16k), other than that, i'm one happy customer.
