Summary: Was good till warrantee ended. "Support" is AWFUL!
Review: It was nice while it lasted -- 94 days (the warrantee expired at 90). Customer "support" was useless. The one time I actually got a person on the line, we could barely understand each other. Although my problem was unrelated to my computer, she insisted on knowing what computer I was using, and as soon as I said it was a Mac, she transferred me to Mac oblivion. I gave up waiting after 10 minutes on a line that was crackling with static. I tried again and wound up waiting 15 minutes on a silent line -- didn't know if it was dead or not, so I hung up. I surely hope I won't be billed $50 for those two useless calls!

Summary: Excellent Product... BUT....
Review: I bought this without doing all of my homework first. Yes, the unit is really nice however, there have been lots of reports of this unit dying after the 90 warranty period is up. This has made me return it.

Summary: Easy and Simple
Review: I have owned palmpilots and visors. This one is really easy and simple to use. I am not real thrilled about the charging aspect of it. I forget to charge it at night. Other than that, it is good for teh price if you need just the basics.

Summary: Great, aside from battery life
Review: It is great. It's my first PDA. The only thing bad is the battery life but from what I hear all the Tungstens have poor bat. life so its pretty good. A definate must have for teens. Very recomendable.

Summary: TUNGSTEN E is E- !
Review: Do not waste your time. The Tungsten E is almost useless. The set up was terrible. Tech support took 3 calls and hot synch is still not correct. The battery is almost non-existent; after full charging it will "magically" dissipate without ANY use. Then the fun really begins - ALL my data is then lost - this has happened 4 times in the first 30 days of owning this. Oh yeah - when hot synch does work (rarely) it requires COMPLETE resetting of the entire unit ! The Vx I had for 4 yrs was perfect. The Tungsten E gets an E- instead of an F- because the screen lights up nicely (for a short while!). Heh Palm - get tech support personnel who are willing to take the time and not rush you off the line. I'll never buy Palm again.

Summary: BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK
Review: I purchased my Tungsten E Handheld in January and yesterday,March 23,the handheld would not turn on. I tried to work through Palm Customer support since it is covered for 90 days from date of purchase and WHAT A NIGHTMARE. If you speak Indian or Pakistani you may be ok but, it was like talking to a machine with no clue of what you are attempting to describe to them. Everything was like scripted... so... I contacted Amazon and EUREKA!!! in spite of their 30 day return policy, they are sending me a replacement unit. Let's see how long this one will function; after reading some of the other reviews, probably not to long. I bought this based on positive reviews and now it seems I have purchased an expensive piece of junk. DO NOT BUY PALM PRODUCTS BUT, DO TRUST THAT AMAZON WILL TREAT YOU RIGHT.

Summary: The warranty is worthless
Review: On first appearance the Tungsten E is great value for money. As time progresses the flaws emerge...

If anything fails after the first three months one might as well throw it away - the warranty is worthless ($129 or more to repair a $155 machine). The power button may fail - mine failed ten days outside the warranty.

The battery has a very limited lifespan, and it cannot be replaced when it fails.

Caveat emptor

Summary: Best value for a PDA - period!
Review: This is the best PDA you can buy in terms of value. Now if you want one that gets you online or has a camera chances are you can pay more for that but that aside this is the best.

Nearly everything you could possible want in this is there. This is sort of my second PDA (I have a cybiko classic model but they gave them away for free...it was a very odd company)

I am used to windows as an os and this is far more stable than windows.Does it crash? Sometimes but that's more with using software not fully tested. It loads far faster than a laptop and yet I can get some of the same work done as on one.

It comes with an office app that is compatible with word and excel and you can view powerpoint. In terms of audio/video there's several mp3 players (real, mmplayer etc) and video (kinoma (ok if size isn't a problem) mmplayer etc) audio everything is great.Video might take some more work as some people are backing up their dvd's using virtualdub with a large sd card! Pictures are fine and dispite what some say there sort of is some multitasking. You can listen to a mp3 and do other things and you can leave a program with some infomation and go back and it will still be in the same state.

The screen is backlit and is pretty bright even when turned down low. Battery time might seem low at first but if you turn the IR off in options and turn the brightness down all the way it will help quite a bit.

There might not be wifi or bluetooth but you still sort of can get online. Avantgo and Plucker (www.plkr.org) both work well in bringing good content to pda (this one included) html and pictures work well together with both programs. In addition there's a large amount of ebook readers that you can find a HUGE amount of books on. Project gutenberg and other sites offer free books etc. Actually many websites can work on pda's, some are actually old wap phone sites.

The file system works well too it doesn't take long to understand how files go where and how to open them.Rebooting even on a hard reset doesn't take long. Applications are easy to find and pretty affordible.

In terms of anything bad I'd recommened for future ones to be less bright, have the speaker facing the other side of the pda, maybe making a different type of plastic as this can get fingerprints like stainless steel..

Again highly recommended if you need a pda

Summary: Suits me just fine!
Review: Okay, first the disclaimers: I have had my Tungsten E for exactly 2 days, so I can't whine about post-warranty problems yet. I have not added an SD card yet, so i don't know how fast or slow it is. I have not had time to discover the detrimental effects of the nice little flip cover. And I am not a tech-head, so my knowledge and needs are rudimentary. And, finally, I have a Mac. That said...

I have just upgraded from the original Handspring Visor (deluxe, I think). It was a fine machine, but I just got tired of the monochrome screen and needing to find a couple of AAA batteries every few months. So it was time to move along. I didn't need anything fancy, and since I have a very small digital camera, I didn't need the added bits in the Zire 71. So the Tungsten E was just right for me, and I couldn't argue with the price. It came in virtually no time from Amazon (which had the great price--thanks!). I loaded the updated software and hot synced and was pleased to find that all my addresses and my calendar, which I kept on the Palm software on my computer(s), made it in their entirety to the new PDA. Plus, after actually reading the manual for a few minutes, I was able to download some of the extra stuff I needed or wanted (calculator, Documents to Go, etc). And then I figured out how to transfer photos (jpegs) from my computer to my PDA. Very simple, very quick, very cool!

I love the bright, colorful screen. It makes it such a pleasure to work on it. And, for my fellow Mac-ites, fear not. I have the latest OS (10.3.3) and everything works just fine! I had absolutely no problem interfacing, downloading, etc.

Finally, several folks have bemoaned the absence of the hot-sync cradle. I too used one with my Visor, but I must say that, not only do I not miss the cradle (I can hot sync in my hand--- and if you have a Mac, you know how easy it is to get to a USB port), but I like the fact that it uses an ordinary USB A to mini USB B cable. You can get spares at any electronics store (for about $25) or for only $10 online at buynshop.com; or a few reasonably priced accesories can be had from tangshop.com (go to Palm Tungsten E accessories).

So, thus far, I am delighted with the Palm Tungsten E, how it works with my Mac, the stylus, the look of it, the cable, the price----and that's about all that there is, I think. I will probably eventually look into a spiffy case, and an expansion card, and whatever other bell or whistle seems to be in order. Bottom line: can i recommend it for Mac OS 10.3 users who want a user-friendly, sort of basic handheld? You betcha!

Summary: Great PDA
Review: This is my first PDA but comparing to other peoples' PDA's it seems pretty nice, especially for the price. The MP3 player is nice to have but make sure you get at least a 256 mb expansion card. 128 fills up pretty fast.
The color screen is very nice and the stylus is metal and very sturdy, very different from the plastic ones that other PDA's might have. If you're thinking about buying this PDA you should. Just look for any price under 200.
