Summary: Nice Palm-many syncing problems
Review: I bought three of these for our office. The look and feel is a big improvement over the Palm V. I like the color screen that is so easy to read. Being able to show photos of our work to clients is a nice feature. Overall it is much faster in all respects than the old model.
Negatives: Why did they do away with the syncing cradle? It looks messy and is cumbersome to have to deal with plugging the Palm in everytime you are at your desk. In addition, you cannot read the display if it lays flat. Try tilting it up and resting it on something without it sliding off again-very difficult. My other gripe is the sycing software. It took me hours to get it to work on at least one of the Palms. The other one still doesn't bring over all my contacts from Outlook. Tech support only sent me promises of help so far, no solution. Why can't they make products that work out of the box?

Summary: Bright screen, light, fast, but battery weak
Review: I bought this a few months ago to replace my all but defunct Vx. Now, had my Vx not stopped working, I would be using it to this day. But I'm glad to have the color screen and the peppiness that the Tungsten E provides. I got a hard RhinoSkin case for it so the dimensions and heft come to about the same as my old Vx in its hard case. HotSyncing is quick.

There are two drawbacks, however. The first is that Graffiti 2 is a pain, and should be done away with. It is much less intuitive and much more intrusive and obfuscating than the original Graffiti. Second, the battery life on this thing is poor. It won't last a whole evening of playing a game, and 2 days of regular office use bring the battery down to 40%. My old Vx would last a couple weeks where this Tungsten E lasts only days or less. This can actually cause difficulties since I travel often, and that means taking yet another charger along.

Summary: Worst buy I ever made
Review: The endurance of this model was 4 months. First, I had to replace it due to a display annoying noise.
The replace unit did not work if I carry it in my pocket. I believe this could be the result of a very bad connection, and a minimal stress damages the whole thing.
Once, I carried it in my pocket and I had to attempt turning the machine on five times. Finally it turned on but the monitor did not respond. So, I pressed the display with more effort and it became smashed!!!
I cannot believe I spent my money in this not robust at all machine.
I strongly recommend not buying the Tungsten E, and after having a Palm device I suggest buying a PDA from another company.

Summary: Disappointing, I miss my Vx
Review: I was always very pleased with my Palm V and then later my Palm Vx. True, they both fritzed out after about 2 years, but during that time, they were very functional. This model is disappointing. I already had to return my first ones because the buttons didn't work well, and then the buttons on the second one stopped working just after the warranty period expired. The The worst part of it is that Grafitti doesn't work well at all; I don't know if this is becuase of this model, or is the new Grafitti program. It does not come with a cradle - not the end of the world, but it's inconvenient. The battery life is weak. It is fast and I like the screen, but that's about it. Overall I would not recommend this model.

Summary: A Solid Performer
Review: In the past few months Palm Computing has divided into PalmSource, focussing on the software, and PalmOne, handling the hardware. I found that the PalmOne Tungsten E Handheld is quite possibly the best handheld PC from PalmOne to date.

While the 126MHz Texas Instruments OMAP311 processor may not be as fast as other Handheld PCs and the 32M of memory is nothing spectacular, there is a handy SD expansion capability. What really stands out, however, is the wide range of features. Running Palm OS 5.2.1, it comes with Kinoma Player and Kinoma Producer, allowing the creation of AVI and QuickTime movies. Other features include a 3.5mm headphone socket (stereo) and a 320 by 320-pixel screen resolution (16 bit), which is surprisingly bright. An MP3 player, Mac OS support and optional wireless culminate in a Handheld PC that is affordable and feature rich- a good buy indeed.

Summary: Parents: Get one for your kids!!!
Review: Wow! I love my Tungsten E! It is so easy to use. I keep track of my assignments, schedule and type reports on it! I previously had a Zire, i liked it. But the Tungsten E is so much beater! I can't live with out it. Once i accidently left it at home chargeing. I got to school and needed to see if i had a band lesson. I reached for my pocket and my palm wasn't there!!! I panicked, grabbed my cell phone and called my mom. i made my mom bring it to me. I got it back. It was funny, that day i used it the most i ever had in school the battery was dead by lunch time. ( actually doing schoolwork on it not playing solitare) I wish the battery could last longer. This Tungsten E is perfect for me!!

Summary: Rubbish Customer Service for Rubbish Product
Review: I bought the Tungsten E for my fiancé. It worked for 6 weeks then suddenly died. We returned it to palm and were sent us a SECOND HAND replacement, which DID NOT EVEN TURN ON. Every time we called customer service we got put on hold, cut off and sometimes promised callbacks from supervisors that never happened. Eventually, after 13 phone calls to customer service I was granted a conversation with a supervisor who told me he that his supervisor would call back. We got a call back from his supervisor who told us that she could only replace the second unit with another unit that would "probably also be second hand" She suggested that I write to the CEO which I did, we got a call back from someone who again offered to give us another second hand replacement. Still we are $200 down without a working palm in site! AVOID PALM AT ALL COSTS.

Summary: why can't someone make a docking cradle
Review: Many people complain about having two wires to charge and dock. Why can't a company make a piece of plastic what would hold the USB and charge plugs and have a dock station or cradle for the TE??????

Summary: Its about time!
Review: I looked at PDAs at first as toys, then as expensive accessories. About 2 years ago I started working full time in a lab about 5 miles from my office and shared with 4 other scientists and only two computers. Small appointments were gettng missed, I'd forget things at home or at work, and decided to take the plunge and get a PDA. Color inticed me, and I wanted the ability to play MP3s but wanted something small and thin. I got the 505 even though it didn't play music. I still haven't found a good place to carry it. I was serverely disappointed with it. The cradle and it had to be sent back due to electrostatic problems disabling syncing. After getting that fixed it the problem reoccured a year later. I lost a lot of stuff due to it turning on in the hardcase and the battery dying. It finally fell out of my shirt pocket and the screen broke. I replaced it with the Tungsen E. It is vastly improved.
The high resolution screen shows decent pictures, it plays MP3s, the calender can repeat stuff every day you specify (like tuesdays and thursdays), its faster, the touch sceen works better, some graffitii 2 letters I like better, some I don't. It does't vibrate for alarms. The hard case has places to store SD cards. You'd think after making PDAs for as long as Palm has they would have perfected it by the time they produced the 505, but the Tungsten E makes up for all the short comings I thought the 505 had. I can hardly wait till some of the accessories that use the SD card slot work

Summary: Good handheld unit, but lousy installation software
Review: Pro:
1. Sharp LCD display
2. Fast CPU
3. Enough memory

Con:
1. Lousy installation software. It is always stuck in the middle of installation (on Windows XP). Ctrl-Alt-Del to kill it. Same story for uninstallation. Wonder if Palm ever has software QA department since it is such a dumb problem.
2. Small LCD screen. Maybe it is a tradeoff due to its relative cheap price.
3. Should come with a MP3 player by default.
4. Battery life is not impressive.
