Summary: A computer indeed
Review: I just got this palm and it is exactly what I was looking for and when I read it had the functions I needed I bought it, it was my first palm or PDA, and my new useful toy. So I can work and store word documents, transfer file by infrared from other laptops and work on documents, have a powerpoint presentation and go to a conference without having to have a computer. It is a computer on the go and so small, has games, I can organize my expenses, share photos, play games, if only there were really good ebooks available, I would love to read them in it, travel guides, etc. too bad there arent.
I hated to have to go everywhere with a lot of papers, now this is all I need. I still have not used the MP3 functions, because I need separate accesories. Only bad thing, no keyboard, I guess with a keyboard, nobody will need laptops anymore!

Summary: Overall, a wonderful product!
Review: As some of you might know, I always speak the truth, so here is my honest review of this Palm Tungsten E.

I purchased this item to replace my old Palm m515 (which had originally replaced my first palm, a Palm V). As you probably guessed, I have to have a small handheld. In my opinion, if it isn't small enough, you won't bring it with you and actually use the thing. I also have been a fond lover of this form factor (very thin and light with double-stylus holder, etc.

Well, they finally listened to us complaining of the previous left side "flap holder" and made the flap slide in from the bottom of the palm as apposed to the top. This was a large problem -- I've had my old palms slide out on me at random by holding it from the flap.

The good: This palm has an astounding display! It literally feels as though you have a small computer in your hand as other reviewers have mentioned. Quality all the way here. Large enough to be easily readable, and a brightness level adjustment that gets quite bright! The buttons on the bottom "mostly" have a positive feedback. I'll discuss the bottom lack of a universal connector last. This palm accepts SD cards and has a headphone jack on the top. Processor is incredible compared to my old m515 and especially the V. Power button is recessed so you can't "accidentally" turn it on as easily as past models.

Honestly, I must mention that I've tried to purchase quite a few MP3 players out there and they have all had quirky problems. I didn't even expect to use the mp3 capabilities of this PDA but look at that -- it works/sounds better than anything I've purchased for the same cost that was dedicated to MP3s!!! I am truly astounded by it.

The bad/interesting: As I mentioned above, the buttons mostly have tactile feedback, but that square ring of a button-pad in the center is a bit odd because pushing down requires quite a bit more force than up and does not result in a "click". Hrm...I guess it just sort of happened because of the small size of this unit (4.6 oz folks - yes you heard me right!).

Finally, that bottom connector issue that has quite an argument brewing. This is the only Tungsten lacking a universal connector on the bottom which means you can't use all those old accessories which utilized that port. Lets look at some other aspects here....It uses a standard USB cable which means you're not restricted to palm to purchase additional hotsync cables. Also, it has a small power cord which plugs in the other port on the bottom. This I think is wonderful because I can actually take the power cable/charger and charge it on vacation or wherever I am. No longer do I have to lug around the cradle in my suitcase!

Finally, the iffy: This palm looks like metal - but alas is made out of plastic. Rest assured it is extremely sturdy plastic -- no creaking or anything Handspring-like and the plastic is actually the color you see -- that silver color. So we shouldn't have to worry about any coating chipping off and revealing an ugly color underneath.

So far, I'm extremely pleased with this palm, and though it has these minute setbacks, I still think it is a wonderful unit especially for the price. I was able to keep my small form factor and get a wonderful display and an overall great feature set. Finally - I must mention that this comes with a LOT of software. Documents to go Ver 6 which allows you to read/write word, excel and powerpoint docs, an mp3 player by realone, photo viewer, and the list goes on and on. Add that to their new personal manager programs like Contact and Calendar and you have a winning combination! If you're on the borderline between this and the new T3 - well, I chose it because I'm not all that trusting of the slider mechanism. I like a palm that sits there with the least amount of moving parts/possible failure points. Hopefully this review helps out in your search for the perfect PDA.

Summary: Wonderful Product
Review: Palm is great. They have some really good handhelds. The E is my third handheld. I bought it because I was interested in PalmOS 5, playing video and sounds, and the resolution of the screen. was 320x320

The cpu inside this thing is fast. You can view photos, listen to mp3s, and manage addresses, etc... It is almost like having a desktop computer in the palm of your hand!

If you have an older model that is not based on the ARM processors, I would think about getting an E model, or even one of the higher end models. You will notice a huge increase in speed and features!

Summary: Happy with the product, disappointed in Amazon
Review: I have state from the start, that I'm very pleased with the product. However, I'm disappointed in Amazon....

Let me explain: I recently placed an order for the Tungsten E and several accessories.

I was confused by some of the terminology in my account status on the order. It didn't say my order shipped or was being filled. It simply said my order was completed.

Upon further investigation I see that Amazon isn't actually filling my order. Rather, they are forwarding it to other vendors to fill.

In this case, these vendors do not supply the level of service that I've come to expect from Amazon. It now appears that Amazon is also not providing the level of service that I've gotten in the past.

My reason for stating this is twofold. It appears somewhat devious for Amazon to forward my order to another vendor. Amazon moving from a service provider to aggregator is disappointing because they are good at the former. Also, I didn't give anyone authority to share my information with these vendors, yet now Amazon has done just that.

Also, one of the vendors simply cancelled my order. No explanation. Just cancelled. I'm stuck. No one to call for assistance. Nice.

Bottom line: Buy the Tungsten E. But buy it at the store where you know who is selling it to you.

Summary: incredible value, strong
Review: one of palm's newest PDAs is the tungsten E. in my opinion, this palm is the sweet spot in palm's latest releases. for the price, it's an impressive package.

pros:
- bright, transflective 320x320 display is easy to read even in daylight.
- 126-MHz CPU and 32MB of RAM (28MB are available to the user).
- MP3 and multimedia support.
- small and light at 4.5 by 3.1 by 0.5" and 4.6oz.
- strong software bundle - now includes the new Contacts and Calendar applications (with Contacts, you can finally store multiple addresses for each contact)
- USB support.
- expansion slot supports SD, SDIO, MMC.
- impressive value - at this price point, no other PDA brings the complete package the tungsten E has.

cons:
- no built-in Wi-Fi (although you can use the expansion slot for an add-in).
- battery not replaceable.

this is a solid PDA and an incredible value. as mentioned above, you can use the expansion slot to install a Wi-Fi add-in so there's a work-around for this limitation. if you MUST have built-in Wi-Fi, consider the tungsten C. another upgrade is the tungsten T3 if you want a bigger, hi-res screen and bluetooth.

i hope this helps you in your buying decision. peace.

Summary: Zen of Palm
Review: The Tungsten E (TE) screen is spectacular. I had read a review online which indicated the TE might have a yellowish tint. Instead, my unit is whiter and brighter than my Zire 71 (Z71) at a given brightness level. I'm amazed and thrilled.

As for the Universal Connector (UC), I have not missed it. I had not purchased a keyboard for any of my previous Palms, but I did order the new wireless keyboard. Thus, I lost nothing with the lack of a UC other than the luxury of one-button-press hotsyncs. Using the TE's hotsync app is easy enough, so again it's no big loss in my case.

All my apps and info transferred seamlessly from the Z71 to the TE. I've told my wife that this is the Palm I've been waiting for ever since I had the M500. It's about the same size, has a killer screen, is light and thin, and it's beautiful. The light blue finish of the Z71 never suited me. The TE, however, looks even better in person than online. Once you hold it in your hand and feel how light it is, you're sure to be impressed.

The TE also feels very solid. No creaks here, as with my Z71 and it's camera slider, and the TT with it's Graffiti area slider. The casing curves out at the top and bottom on both sides, as with the M500 series, making it feel much more secure in hand. The corners, however, are not as pointed as those of the M500 series Palms, so the unit is more comfortable for me to hold.

Battery life seems adequate so far, but I really won't have a good feel for that until I use it at work for awhile. I'm a teacher, and I use my Palm to record and compute grades (Easy Grade Pro w/EGP Clipboard), track attendance, call on students randomly, remind me of meetings and student pull-outs, and to store student information such as home phone numbers and observations. This weekend, all I've been doing with the TE is playing some games and MP3s, as well as comparing and configuring the new PIM apps. I do like the ability to plug the TE into any outlet with the power adapter.

I've got the TT as well, but using it always made me miss the M500 form. So, while I admire the new Tungsten T3 for the achievement it is, I would not trade my TE and its tablet form for the T3 and its slider. Whenever PalmOne gets around to introducing a TE (or T whatever) with HighRes plus, Virtual Graffiti, UC, and the TE's tablet form, I'll be one of the first pounding the pavement to buy it. Until then, I'm very happy with the TE. The "Zen of Palm" is back!

Summary: Stylish, Slick, Lots of software, Nice Screen, Good Bargain
Review: This PDA is a GOOD Bargain:

1.This PDA is great it looks great, and it feels good when you are holding it.

2. the software like dataviz office is great (happy mood)

3. Very Very Bad Versamail software (frustrating), the email software on my pda took 1.4 mb of memory -what a monster! not only that but when versamail was on my PDA i had to reset it every time i " sync it", when i had too much software there it got really bad that i had to hard reset(delete all data) i removed versamail and it work good now. it had to soft reset once after that because it crashed when i was using another email application that use (300 kb)

4. Performance, response time is pretty fast but a free software like Today( takes a while like around 4 seconds ), agendus opens pretty fast. so i guess it is today software problem.

5. 32 mb of memory you have more than enough, performance of th cpu is good. i would still keep away from the pocketpc

Summary: no palm universal connector
Review: A lot of accesories (keyboards, chargers, etc,) works with the palm "universal" connector and it doesnÂ't have one.

Summary: best PDA for me
Review: I love this fabulous product. A) It is powerful - fast CPU for Palm OS handhelds. Forget about the PocketPC types, they can have a 300, 400 mhz chip, yet still slow in response; B) versatile - lots functionalities with packaged softwares. Excel, Word, Powerpoint, all are great office tools with many desktop features packed. I have used earlier versions of DocToGo, compared to this latest version in T|E, the new usability and functionality just are amazing. I especially love the Adobe reader, used this alot to read the Wall Street analyst report - still valuable for me as a financial analyst to learn the technics n information gathering purposes. I love the fact that I can load the reports, plus corporate annual reports, in T|E and read it anytime I want. The Adobe reader 3.0 handles text well, even surprising well on Charts and diagrams. The huge improvement on reading documents in both software and color hi-resolution screen is one major factor. C) easy to use. I have coded Java e-business applications, and handle computers very well. But I just can not use PocketPC after using Palm devices, because Palm is SO easy and intuitive. D) games. I played Sega classics- Shinobi, same game I played as a kid. It gives me the same thrill. The second factor here, for fun.

Bottom line, T|E is a great handheld device, with lots of business and fun functionalities, at a great value. I got one the first day it is available, and never think back again.

Summary: I loved it... until the frickin thing self-distructed
Review: I got one for christmas and it has been with me every day. I loved every aspect of it. The speaker quit working on the third day, but the rest of it was really cool

But recently it died on me. Completely inexplicable. I didn't drop it or anything. It worked at night (luckily I did a hotsync) and the next morning it began crashing. After a bit, it never turned on again. I called Palm and they basically told me to pay 125 bucks for a refurb or cram a sharpend stick into my southern orifice.

I will never purchase Palm AGAIN! Please Boycott!!!
