Rating: Summary: OSX support is fine; MP3s work without kit Review: I can add and listen to MP3s easily without buying Palm's $99 kit. All one needs is a set of headphones ($10 or less), and a flash card ($30 or less) [contrary to comments by "An electronics fan from SM, CA, USA"]. Palm I think is not quite clear on the necessity of the kit on their website, and they should be more forthright, it is not necessary at all (aside from needing headphones and memory card). Also, the "fan" writes that the software does not work in OSX. The only problem with the software is that DocToGo does not support Powerpoint on the Mac. Otherwise it has been fine for me, and support has answered any email questions on the same day.
Rating: Summary: can NOT add bluetooth! Review: I just wanted to clarify the posting from "uojfe from Eugene, OR USA". Althought bluetooth expansion cards exist, the Tungsten E can not use them.
Rating: Summary: Picky, Picky! Review: What are all those people below complaining about? Honestly, I think this is a great device for the price. It may well be that it is not the best of its kind out there, but take a look at what you get:* Adobe Reader * Documents to Go (Word, Excel, Power Point) * Kinoma Player (video player) * Palm Reader (for e-books) * Palm Photos * Real One (MP3 player) * Calendar, Memos, Contacts, Note Pad... * Versa Mail Ok, you have to spend some more money on a SD card if you want to use Real One for MP3 playback, but it is worth it, I think. I bought a LEXAR SD card (256MB) so that I don't have to worry about storage problems any more. Plus, I can also use the original 32MB. The Software is no problematic at all, at least not for Windows XP. And you can upload things to your Palm very easily. The only thing I might not be happy about is the non-replaceable battery. But, so far, I've had no problems: I still have enough battery after playing MP3's for a couple of hours. So, my recommendation is, go for it.
Rating: Summary: Kind Of Sucks.... Review: you can't expand this handheld in any way except for memory.... NO GPS or MP3's **without another $99.99 kit** SUCKS................
Rating: Summary: One Little Oversight Review: Overall, good features (the calendar function/contacts are easy to use/read) and thanks to my in-house tech team, I'm able to sync easily with my office computer. MAJOR DRAWBACK - Palm does not sell the 1) cradle or 2) extra USB cables (I'm not so irritated with the cradle, but find it unsettling that a seemingly established company such as Palm did not have the forsight or knowledge of it's customer base to know that many of us have office AND home computers that we need to connect to regularly - yes, I'm carring the darn cable back and forth every day . . .)
Rating: Summary: Customer support does not exist... Review: Huge software problems with Mac OSX. Avoid this product, since when you call them, they are never there to help you.
Rating: Summary: Great price, all the important features Review: I have just upgraded to the Tunsten E from a Palm Vx. I for one love its size, the clarity of the screen, the updated calender (especially the month view feature where you can color code the type of event, so that you don't have to open each entry to see what is there) , the notepad. I am delighted to pay this price, as this is a no nonsense Palm with extra features, but no camera ( I'd rather carry around a decent one like the Canon s400) and no crade to carry around! The Hot sync feature works with just a cable connected to a USB slot on your computer. Why does anyone really want a cradle? It is just more clutter on your desk! Great job, Palm. I am delighted.
Rating: Summary: Good Value, But disappointed Review: Due to my Palm V's battery dying and my failed attempt to replace it, I needed a new PDA and a bit stretched for money right now. So looked at all the reviews and fell in love with the new Tungsten E when it first came out (announcement had been made, but was not even in stores yet). Stuff I Don't Like - Requires an additional card to play MP3's, and this was not mentioned at the time on Amazon etc. And I did quite a bit of research and checking around for the lowest cost (problem of having an Engineering background). Palm's site finally mentions it when I checked today. - My Palm V case after four or so years still looks better than my two month old Tungsten E. The Tungsten E Palm Logo is flaking off, as well as scratches on the case. Feels warm and scratches, so looks like plastic. And if it was metal, I am sure Palm's site would mention that under the specs. - No cradle (and I can't use the ones from my Palm V's). - Cheap gray cover (Palm V had a leather cover). What is nice: - Good price/value - Good color screen. Nice to story photo's for those here is my family moments. - Ability to import/export Microsoft Documents - OK size and appearance (Palm V is smaller, and just looks more serious).
Rating: Summary: Frustrating! Review: The screen and size are wonderful, but what is not so wonderful is that it does not come with a cradle that allows you to synch up and power up with the same unit - you have to use a separate power connector and a USB cable for each function. Also, not having the Palm Universal Connector is a MAJOR drawback - you can't use most of the Palm keyboards (or many other Palm accessories) to connect to it and that is a major drawback for my uses! I also have had MAJOR problems in synching up at work and the support people at Palm would not give me any advice about it (probably because it's so new they didn't have any advice to give me). I'm returning it to the store this weekend and plan to buy a Sony unit instead!
Rating: Summary: No GPS for this Palm. Review: DO NOT BUY THIS Palm if you wish to connect other equipment to your Palm. Per Palm "Tungsten E does not support connectivity". I bought the Tungsten E for my wife for christmas, planning to use it with my GPS now and then. I was suprised after shipping to find that there is no way to connect anything to this Palm.
