Rating: Summary: Palm m515 is Tops Review: Just got this little wonder three days ago and already I love it! Although the supplied documentation is a little skimpy, between it and the help files that come with the Palm software, things worked out well.Overall the Palm m515 appears to be a solid unit. I would recommend purchasing screen protectors right off the bat. There cheap and do a great job protecting aginst scratches and abrasions. Replacement screens, on the other hand, are quite expensive. My unit will live its life in the harsh enviroment of South Louisiana construction and needs the added protectiom. I let you all know how it holds up to the humidity in a few months. Overall I,m very pleased with the unit, for now.
Rating: Summary: I have found the perfect PDA Review: I have been through 4 PDA's in one year's time and I have finally found the PDA I am totally happy with. I've had a Palm IIIxe, Handspring Visor Neo, Sony Clie, and Palm m125. The m125 was by far the best of that list, because I found out the hard way that Sony Clie's are only compatible with PC's, and the Neo's screen didn't like to work reliably!! However, I've learned that if you want a PDA, definitely get a Palm. The color on this PDA looks fantastic. Its extremely easy to use, extremely easy on the eyes, and can brighten up a dark space when a flashlight can't be found. Also the 16MB of internal memory is nice to have, just in case you wind up networking with the entire United States population. A friend of mine has had great luck with Palm PDA's, because this m515 was only his 2nd after buying a Palm V four years ago! The price may be a little steep, but it's worth every penny and you'll see it once you start using it. I am a record producer/sound engineer, so I have many contacts and have always entrusted a PDA with my organizational needs. This PDA by far suits me the best and I totally recommend it to anyone in need of one. Now you may read reviews by people who say it turns on randomly, or in any soft case it turns on easily, to that I say "get a hard case!". The hard case (the one I use is by iConcepts) looks very sleek, fits and protects the PDA nicely, and doesn't make the unit any heavier. You can't go wrong!
Rating: Summary: Replacement of defective M515 Review: My old M515 froze up on me and would not work anymore. I emailed Palm about it and they sent me a four page letter on how to fix the problem the very next day. It did not help. I called Palm and they said the even though it was out of warrent they would take it back a fix it. Within one week I received a new m515. That is good customer service.
Rating: Summary: Nice product, lousy customer service Review: I'm a previous Palm Vx user. When I had a chance to upgrade to color, I jumped at the chance. Unfortunately, the M515 I received was a lemon that wouldn't hold a charge. Doesn't sound like a huge problem, just call Customer Service, right? I called when my unit was less than 2 weeks old. I was told to return it to Palm AT MY COST and they would repair it. Can't replace it, won't pay for shipping. It would take a minimum of 2-3 weeks to get it back. In the meantime, I have nothing. I'm out the bucks it costs to ship. I love the product, but hate the manufacturer. Another case of business not caring for the customer. Next upgrade? I'll probably look at other options.
Rating: Summary: Good but not perfect Review: I owned a Palm III for four plus years and was very happy with it. Then my purse was stollen with the Palm in it and I was forced to update. I read the reviews on the Palm M130 and decided it was for me. I ordered it without visiting a store to check out the real thing and I found that it was much thicker and heavier than my Palm III. I keep my Palm in a wallet organzier and I could barely close the wallet with the M130 in it. Therefore, I returned it and I am awaiting my refund. In its place, I purchased the M515 instead. SO far, I am very happy with the 515, especially its width. The only annoying thing about the product is that they have an attractive slip on leather cover but the cover will not stay on the Palm. Otherwise, the software was very easy to install and the Palm is meeting all of my needs. The color screen is nice and the battery has not worn out yet after one week of use. Why can't they make the cover work though? I never had a single complaint about my Palm III.
Rating: Summary: Please, enough with the complaints! Review: come on! you people who keep on complaining should fix your problem! call palm not mail them! if it keeps turning on get a hardcover case! it doesn't take that much common sense! me and all my friends love this thing!
Rating: Summary: A step up Review: I traded in my Palm 125 because the touch screen did not always respond (especially in the corners). Since I had kept it beyond the return period, I used the return allowance to purchase the m515. I love this Palm! It has a sensitive screen, a fast operating system and has a good deal of memory for downloading books from memoware. The screen is bright and easy to read in all lighting (unlike the III). The unit is lightweight. I have experienced no sync problems with it at all. I can see where the batteries might be a problem in locations where there was no electricity to recharge them.
Rating: Summary: Beware of m515 problems before you get one Review: I have owned it for about 5 months. it worked perfectly. All of a sudden the 515 stopped recognizing the connection to the PC and it used to freeze. Some times it just has the green light on and the screen is dead. palm is not addressing the issues pertaining to this nature of problems the right way. Hard or soft resets of the 515 provided no relief. SUDS and GLC are two issues to look for.I paid ($$$) and it was a waste. I'd advise prospective buyers to make a wise choice by reading about the problems on the web before one plunges for the purchase.
Rating: Summary: Perfect upgrade for those with Palm V Review: Just like all of my other reviews, I am as honest as possible. I owned a Palm V (the 2 meg version, not Vx) for almost 4 years now, and decided it was about time to upgrade. I had originally purchased the palm V for its ruggedness and small size. I, like many of you need a small PDA else it will not be used. The Palm V is still in perfect condition, but I've always wanted a color PDA since I first saw the Palm IIIc (which was big and bulky and had an awkward looking screen). After much research, I spent the extra bucks on an m515 because of the horrid reviews of the m505. This palm is truly amazing. It has three levels of brightness, off, low and high. To start, I'm a college student and have found that no backlighting (the off setting) due to the reflective screen that palm used works rather well under the flourescent lighting. Incandescent lights? -- backlighting on low works best. High is too bright, although works great as a flashlight. Like the Palm V, the m515 is rugged, sleek and perhaps even better built. It comes with PalmOS 4.1 including notepad and memopad - so now you can scribble quick notes on the screen for "translation" later ;-). Some large perks were the vibration alerts and blinking light alert for reminders HOWEVER the vibration is dull at best. Granted, I can feel it in my pocket, but it doesn't compare to some cell phone vibrators out there. I instantly outfitted my m515 with a hardcase from iconcepts (because it was smaller/sleeker than the palm brand case -- and VERY sturdy, and WriteRights. Get those two items, and your palm will last years like my old V did :-). The screen is gorgeous, and I don't care about hires 320x320 vs 160x160 (which this palm has) because all I wanted was a splash of color in my life, and here it is! Silverscreen (a launcher) works/looks great, and I have no complaints whatsoever. Anyone thinking of upgrading from a V, its truly worth it. Finally, as a side note, it is a tiny bit heavier than the V, but within the first week I have become acustomed to it. Hopefully this review will help your decision, happy Palming!
Rating: Summary: Calling it Junk is being too kind Review: So what if the resolution is spectacular or the battery life is decent if the M515 turns on at the slightly touch or bump and inevitably drains the battery, rendering the M515 nothing but dead weight in my purse or briefcase? My M515 is "protectected" by a leather case from none other than Palm. There are two little bars across the bottom of the case that are supposed to prevent the front half of the case from pressing on the buttons across the bottom of the M515. BUT THEY DON'T WORK. If you put the slightest amount of pressure on the case, the M515 turns on and eventually drains the battery. I just carry around (never toss or drop) my purse or briefcase. Maybe the problem is solved by having a hard case but I'm sickened and angered by how Palm can market the M515 without being honest and upfront about the ridiculous feather-touch turn on feature or the requirement for a hard case. I used to be a Palm loyal. Now I hate Palm. I wish I had realized the problem within the return period. Otherwise, I would not be left with a useless piece of junk. If I'm missing something, like some trick to lock the keys, someone PLEASE let me know. The M515 is driving me nuts.
