Rating: Summary: I was happy with my m515 once upon a time Review: When I first purchased my m515, I was very happy with it. In less than 3 months I have become very unhappy. I upgraded from a Palm V. In fact, I was so happy with it I purchased one for my son as a gift. Now I feel I purchased him a lemon. My m515 would discharge rapidly. I have a hard case and have found out that the case somehow turns the Palm on. I am not sure how this happens. Also, my m515 would not charge. I called Tech Support and found out I had to do a hard reset to get it to charge. Make sure you do a sync before you do this or you will lose all your data. After I did this it charged and I did a sync. Then I tried to use my Franklin PDR card that came with my Palm. It kept giving me fatal exception errors. Another call to Tech Support and I was told I had to do a hard reset to get the card to work. It did work after I did a hard reset. So I did another sync. And my card worked this time. After a day or two my m515 had completely discharged and would not charge. Another call to tech support. This time they told me I could send it in for repair or spend 39 dollars and they would send me a replacement and a return envelope and label to send my original m515 back. I chose to do that. The new one came. It charged and when I turned it on there was considerable color distortion on the screen which I found to be totally unaccepable. I went ahead and decided to do a sync. The day after I got it I needed to use my Franklin PDR card to look up some information. I got a fatal exception error. I also found my m515 on when I would open the hard case. I did a hard reset and my PDR card would work. Another call to Palm Tech Support. My unhappiness was the color distortion, the fact it would come on in the hard case, and the fact that I had to do hard resets to use my PDR. Solution. Palm.com is sending me another m515 after I send in my second m515. They informed me to keep my original m515 until I get the second replacement then I am to send it back. Tech support has been helpful and they are trying to resolve my issues. I should have read more of the reviews on this product before I spent... dollars for mine and another ... for my sons gift. I purchased my m515 from www.palm.com. I have a number of third party software on my m515 and tech support said one may be causing the problem. Well, they should warn purchasers of this software ahead of time. There is no way to delete individual software to see which one is causing the problem. I am a college professor of chemistry and rely on my system for appointments and other programs I need for my profession. Overall, I am unhappy with my m515, but I will give credit to Palm Tech Support for attempting to resolve my issues. It is just very inconvenient. I have since gone back to my Palm V which has proven to be reliable. It just doesn't have the benefits of the m515 that I need. If you have issues with any of your Palm products don't try to get resolution through their email support system. All they will do is send you an email and tell you to call tech support and provide you with the number. Then why do they have email tech support. It makes no sense. I am pretty disgusted and disappointed at this time in my system. I still have other software that I haven't installed for fear that it will cause additional issues. ...
Rating: Summary: Totally Unreliable! Review: I have owned 3 of these beauties within the past 6 months...they work great for a while, then I hotsync it and the Palm freezes up...All the info is erased and the Palm never comes back up/on-line...So, I have sent mine in and received a new one...same exact problem...took it back to Circuit City, got a new one...same exact problem...finally traded it in at Circuit City for the Sony Clie PEG-T665...same exact price, MP3 player...Have not had a problem with it yet and I have had it for 3 months (looking around for some wood to knock on...)
Rating: Summary: Great Handheld Review: I got my M515 about two months ago and didn't want to review it until I used it for awhile. Well I can say without a doubt that this is a great device. My PDA background includes originally owning the Palm III then I made the BIG mistake of buying a Windows CE iPaq. I had nothing but trouble with it. The battery life was horrible, hot synching was hard, and it basically required a memory card if you wanted to put anything on it. It was bulky and heavy and after using it for a year and a half I was ready to come back to mother Palm. The m515 is light and has a vibrant display that is joy to look at. Synching with my computer is simple and the memory that comes standard is more than enough. I will never buy another brand again. I learned my lesson.
Rating: Summary: It just doesn't work Review: I used to be a Palm enthusiast until I bought this model. A few months after purchse, it stopped hot syncing. When I got a replacement, it also stopped working after a few months. Very disappointing. I wouldn't have written this review, except that the two people I recommended this model to have also experienced the same problem.
Rating: Summary: I have bought my last palm Review: I have bought over a dozen palms for employees, friends etc... I thought I would treat myself to the best one for my needs, the m515. This product is a lemon (the whole line not just the 515). Sadly they designed it flawed and after a few months it will no longer synchronize with your pc. The Zire series is the replacement line. However, the first time the M515 went under they denied that the problem ever existed. I then found the problem on a newsgroup (it's called SUDS). When confronted with this fact Palm offered a replacement for a fee... promising that the replacement fixed the problem. Second M515 waited about the same amount of time (5 months) and choked for exactly the same reason. Replaced for a fee again. Third time it choked they want to sell me a refurb at full refurb price. I paid $... for the original and they have put me through the ringer. There is not enough space here for the whole waste of time but suffice it to say that when a company knows a product sucks and won't stand behind it... I am done with them. and you should try another manufacturer. Just my opinion but I am completely disgusted.
Rating: Summary: Unit is Good, Cradle Stinks, Photosuite bonus software dodgy Review: Am new to handheld devices, having held off until the prices came down and the durability went up.Ordered the m515 because I wanted a color screen, did not need all the wireless/bluetooth/telephonic bells and whistles of the Tungsten and did not want to start off with a used or less-featured model. Currently, I'm on a steep learning curve, but find the calendar function useful - have not figured out how it can link to the address book, if that is at all possible. (It should be if it is not.) I was dismayed to find that the cradle will not link with my oldish personal laptop. I had tease through all the files to find the .dat files to put on a floppy and installed all the stuff on my more "modern" PC at the office. I'm not too happy at having personal stuff on an employer-owned computer, but if my colleagues can download cricket scores, what the heck. The bonus software for PhotoSuite does not appear to be fully functional. It does not export, despite my having installed it as the admin user as the documents suggest. I "manually" export jpg files to the Palm and then, once they are on the expansion chip, I import them from chip to PhotoSuite. The technical term for that is PITA. The cradle is abominable. I have to clamp the Palm into the cradle with my hands to keep it from disconnecting itself. How hard can it be to seat a device into its own docking unit? I've docked all sorts of gizmos (Mac duos, etc.) and have seated memory chips in Sun workstations, so I am hardly a naive user. This is not a user error issue, but bad design on Palm's part. I wonder if they even shipped me a cradle that is compatible with the unit. I would have preferred getting a charger cable and a connector to the PC as separate items, anyway. The unit itself, with its small size and longish battery life, as well as its capacity for information, keep it from being 3 stars. But, if you are working at Palm, make the Photosuite guys get their act together and do something about that cheesy cradle.
Rating: Summary: Palm M515 just doesn't hold up Review: I purchased 32 of the Palm M515 for our Hospital. I have probably sent 90% of them back for repairs. They don't synch, they stop holding a charge, they get fatal errors that will not clear. On and On. Palm support is there.... They are nice people but I can only reset the palm so many ways. You would think after the 10 or 15th call they would give you some credit for knowing something about the machines.
Rating: Summary: A great little tool Review: I recently purchased the m515 and found it to be a wonderful product. I am particulary impressed by the available software that is available for this unit. They are easy to install so you can have all your needed information with you at all times. I have had a minor problem with sync. It seems to duplicate some of my appointment book at various other times, which is very annoying. For example, if I have an appointment in the evening from 6-8:30pm during the sync process it will download that information plus schedule the same appointment from 8-10pm the same evening. It has done this on a number of ocassions but at least I can go in and delete the unwanted appointments which takes unnessary time. I haven't contacted technical support about this problem to see if there is a fix. Other than that the m515 performs great. There are some great games available to download. Overall, I highly recommend the purchased of this device.
Rating: Summary: Nice end-of-line for palmos 4 Review: I bought this rather than risking incompatibility with the palmos 5 of the clie and tungsten. I think in general I would have been happier with the tungsten, especially considering that the price difference between the m515 + sdio bluetooth card and the tungsten isn't very big. But nearly everything I had with my III works with it, so I'm pretty satisfied, and I'm happy with the additional memory.
Rating: Summary: Very Nice Review: I have barely owned the Palm m515 for a week and I am loving it! Wow! I previously had the Palm IIIe, which performed very well over the 3 years I had it. But I am loving this m515. I did a lot of research before buying it ... First of all, I really like the backlight ability it works very well. Secondly, I wanted the additional memory, the m515 has 16MG compared to the 2 MG I had with the IIIe. Thirdly, I own a Navman GPS navigational unit and it works seemlessly with the m515. For those who do not have a navigational unit in their autos, this is a wonderful alternative. Ok... let me get off the soap box!
