Summary: It is made out of aluminum
Review: It is, in fact made out of aluminum. This case is very compact and protects the palm well. It has two slots to put cards in, which for some people may not be enough. It is a bit slippery, but just hold on to it!

Summary: You get what ya paid for (and you got something pretty nice)
Review: Just got the case today. Cheap plastic? umm, no, it's not. Personally, i think some of these people complain too much. You paid $20 for the thing, how much do you expect?! It's super protective (major plus when it's gonna be thrown around in a bookbag most of the time) and it's sleek. Like some other reviewer said, if you cant open it, you're opening it wrong. okay, so maybe you'll need TWO hands to open it. not a big deal. I thought that the unit fits pretty nicely in the case. It has a hinge rail that the E slides on, so there's no chance of it falling out. To get the stylus out, you WILL have to tilt the E forward which takes all of 2 extra seconds. I can open the case, get the stylus out, AND turn the power on in like, 3 seconds. if you dont have 3 seconds to spare, you've got problems. As for being "big and clunky" the case is about 3 1/2 inches by mmm...4 1/2? And im thinking it's a little under a half inch thick. WOW! thats HUGE, considering the unit is maybe 3 by 4 1/4 inches itself. ANYWAYS, i would personally reccomend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive protective (not cheap plastic) case. If you're one of those people who obsolutely NEED to whip out palm and stylus RIGHT AWAY with no delays or maybe have some motor disabilities....find something else. For everyone else, this is a steal. The main idea is to protect your palm so it doesnt get broken. Okay, okay, the design COULD be better (that's why it gets a 4) but it's flaws arent disabling. I dont think you could buy anything better for this price. If you have hundreds of dollars to waste on a superior case, go ahead. I dont and i am PLENY pleased with this. BUY IT, YOU WONT REGRET IT. (at least i didnt)

Summary: OK CASE, IF YOU GET IT FREE.
Review: Mine was a throw-in when my daughter bought me my new Tungsten E so I kept it. Didn't cost anything, can't be returned, and maybe come in handy occasionally.

My first impression was that the case was bulky and difficult to open. And, I questioned how protective and versatile it would be. Usually our instincts and first impressions are accurate with most things.

In trying to use the case around the house, I found it very annoying. You have to access the right edge of the Palm to flip it 45 degrees on its hinge, and with some degree of difficulty, in order to remove the stylus and turn it on; then again to insert the stylus and turn it off. The Palm should be removed entirely to charge it and hot-synch it.

One reviewer here indicated s/he dropped the Palm 3 times and the case protected it. I'm not optimistic about that. The case interior is hard plastic and the palm doesn't even fit snugly. It would seem to me that dropping the Palm at 6 feet onto a hard surface would place it in great peril with this case.

One reviewer mentioned the hinge breaking in 1 1/2 weeks. I can easily see that happening. It's very flimsy plastic and will be used frequently since the Palm will be removed/reinserted so often. I would expect the hinge to break in the early future. Palm should sell hinges in 3-paks like styli, but of course that won't happen. Heaven knows they will come in more handy than extra styli.

I haven't shopped Palm cases but I will seek out a leatherette case with foam or other heavy padding and which would enable easy removal. I would also look for a case with cutouts for the stylus and power switch, as well as the charger input and hot-synch port.

In my view, the only thing this case has going for it is that it is very heavily armored and will surely protect the Palm and the glass screen from being struck sharply against a hard object while it's in your coat pocket. That's how I broke my old Personal PalmPilot, getting into a snug fitting booth at a restaurant, cracking the glass against the table corner.

At the price point of this accessory, I thing we can do better.

Summary: save your money
Review: pros - strong case, good protection

cons - awkward to use, hard to install, hard to open,
too big, too heavy,
pda audibly flops around inside, no access to audio plug
while case closed.

if you can find it for 5$ it might be worth it

Summary: latch is poorly designed
Review: The latch is a thin piece of plastic that is easily broken. After only 3 months of normal use, mine broke. After several phone calls and emails with Palm they sent me a new one (I bought original on Amazon). After another 3-4 months, the latch broke on the new one. I gave up and put on a piece of velcro.

Summary: Too big (and does NOT look like the one in the picture)
Review: The only thing this case does well is protect the Tungsten E like an armored car. That's it; everything else sucks. The palm rattles when it is inside (i.e. it does not fit snugly). You cannot reach the power button or get the stylus without having to lift the palm out of the case. The photo of the case that shows in amazon and everywhere else suggests that the case has an opening in the top right corner for easy access to the stylus, but this is not true, at least not here. Basically, I wish they made a case like the old palm hard case for the palm Vx...just a simple hard case that opens easily, protects the palm, allows for easy access to the thing and all the needed buttons, and, most importantly, does not add bulk. Until some intelligent designer gets this done, this case is good enough to protect my palm while it jumps around in my briefcas.

Summary: Very disappointing
Review: The Palm will rattle within the case even when properly placed. Also, there is no ready access to the on/off button, stylus, synch port or charger when the Palm Tungsten is in the "normal" position in the case. If this wasn't bad enough, the case is difficult to open. Palm should go back to the design studio and get it right.

Summary: An Inadequate Product
Review: The surface of the case is alarmingly slippery.
The expansion card "holders" do not hold. The
extra expansion card I had just purchased is
gone; slipped out of the "holder". ka-ching!
More money down the drain. Now, after a whopping
three weeks of use, the case does not click
shut at all.
The only good thing about this case is that it
is still protecting my Tungsten E somewhat.
As soon as I find a decent case elsewhere, it's
going in the trash.

Summary: It's a done job.........but, not well done
Review: The Tungsten E has proven to be one of my more worthwhile purchases. I have my whole life (just about) and what I plan to do with it right at my fingertips. After spending $200 on it, I figured I had to protect the investment. I originally purchased this Hard Case from the Palm Online Store for $39.99 - 20%. It was rather pricey, but I thought worth the security. On a scale of 1-5, I gave it a 2, as shown above, and I only scored it that way because the Palm is well protected from key scratches and so forth as well as falls to the concrete or floor when in this case. I stress the latter because the satiny outer surface is especially hard to grasp with dry hands, therefore is a drop waiting to happen. And like everyone else here, my latch broke and the case is not securely closed, so any fall could mean the end of this device. Even with the name Hard Case, I would not recommend this case to a man, especially one who plans to keeps it in a pants pocket. It just won't hold up under the pressure. The case itself needs work and for the asking price, it should be able to last as long as the device itself. All in all, if I had to choose again, this would not be my first choice.
