Summary: sound ok, durability sucks
Review: Maybe my head is too big, but these broke about 4-5 months after getting them. If you're an exec who keeps good care of things, then maybe these are for you (although you can then afford better). If you are in and out of the subway or pulling them on and off with any frequency, they just fall apart.

Summary: Dull but good
Review: OK. I listen through Gr#do SR60 most of the time. These are not the same. The Sony MDR-VR300 sound kinda dull, but I like them anyway. For the price I think they are good. There was this guy many years ago who called himself the "Velvet Sound" Mel Torme I think. These are like Sony's "Mel Torme Headphones". Here's the deal: they block out the surrounding noise and let you listen to the music. V300 are noise cancelling phones without the hiss.

Summary: Good, but not great.
Review: One of the nice things about these headphones is the ability to be reverse the cups so they can be used as mini-speakers. This helps especially in the dorm setting, where walls are paper thin and speakers don't make much sense.Sound reproduction is decent, but not exactly top notch. Highs come out pretty good, but lows tend to distort. Not bad for the price though. I must say that the contruction of these headphone look a little flimsy. The all-plastic construction seems to have several weak points. The muffs also aren't the type where your ear can go into them. They just give you cushion for your ear.

Summary: Nearly the Best Sony Monitors
Review: Positively the best headphones I own. I only gave it a four because my bro has MDRV500s which are amazing. But they are twice the price. These are the most practical studio monitors you can buy. I plug them into my iPod and just listen for hours in comfort. They're better than my car speakers. Some of the other reviews talk about heavy bass, but if you're a trance fan it's just right. If you have a good player then you will get good sound out of them. Absolutely zero hiss that I can tell. For 50 bucks it would be very difficult to find better cans.

Summary: meant for house- not meant for pocket- good for music.
Review: Real clean highs, and good clean lows. Deep deep bass doesn't penetrate that loudly with these phones, they still are better than everything else in their price and size range. Most suited for portable digital music devices. Some of the other "studio" headphones suck up all your portable player's amperage, this one needs less juice to give you louder sound. I use them with a mp3/fm player, and have found that the mdr's long cord makes for great FM reception, (even when most of its length is folded up somwehere). These headphones have a weak spot on the headband where two peices of plastic meet. I broke it on one side, duck-taped it fixed, and then broke it on the other side as well, (just for stuffing it in to a jacket pocket). So don't test the plastic. It can't take pressure. Before you get these ones, look at the Sony MDR-501LP headphones listed in 'similar products'. They look like great sounding headphones...

Summary: First impressoin
Review: The bass response is definitely good. But the headphone is lacking in its response in the high frequency range. Though you can hear the high frequencies, the sound is not very crisp. The problem can be solved by plugging in the headphone to a receiver, and turning the trebble all the way up. Then you really have a top notch headphone. But on a CD player, the high frequency response leaves something to be desired. I guess these headphones are designed for pop/rap, not for classical music. Another thing, the headphone is rather light, mostly made of light plastic, without the weight one normally assoicates with quality. Maybe it's just my personal opinion, but I think Sony could have used some heavier plastic.

Review: The bass response is very good and clear. But I cannot say the same thing about the headphone's response to higher frequencies, especially when you listen to classical music, though you can hear the higher frequencies, but they do not stand out, not very sharp. I guess this headphone is designed towards pop and rap rather than classical music. The headphone feels rather light, and except for the earpads, everything else is made of light plastic, there no feel of weight, which one normally associates with quality. But the sound is loud and clear nonetheless. And as for use with portable CD players, one better hook up the CD player through a receiver, than hook the headphone to the receiver, that way the headphone will have a better trebble response through the receiver. Otherwise, the headphone does have good response for the high frequencies.

Summary: My Ears Are Killing Me!
Review: The sound from these headphones is okay but the comfort is horrible. I find myself unable to wear them for more than an hour at a time. I've tried both with and without glasses but my ears end up being pressed against my head quite hard. Very uncomfortable. The cord is also a bit of a pain. Spend the extra money on some V600s or V700s.

Summary: Good sound but headband does not last...
Review: The sound quality of these headphones is quite good, but after using them for about 3-4 months the headband broke in several places. I didn't misuse them or anything. There seems to be somewhat of an engineering flaw in the adjustment mechanism of the headband. There are weak points on both sides of the headband where flexibility is concentrated. This ultimately weakens the plastic leading to breakage. I would expect better engineering from a company like Sony.

Review: These are awesome headphone for a great price, the bass is just perfect, and in regard to them falling apart... Yes they do have a few parts that can easily break, but unless you intend to be tossing these halfway across the room (which some people shockingly do with headphones) They wont break as long as you just use a little care with them... Regarding this so called Electronics Fan that wrote the review below.... This guy would have be be a freakin millionaire for all the reviews he's written. Look under many of the bose products and many others. (I also dont see how someone would purchase so many pairs of headphones.) Obviously he either has an extremely expensive taste, or he just has nothing else better to do but write bad reviews. He has not written one single good review (atleast from what i've seen) So please do not base your decision on any reviews written by this person.
