Rating: Summary: Great value for more than decent headphones. Review: I bought these headphones looking for comfortable, full-size headphones that fit a poor college kid's budget. I wasn't disappointed. The headphones sound good -- far better than most smaller headphones under $30. Rich bass and discernable treble mark the good sound range, though I've had a little breakup at higher volumes (may not be the headphones' fault). Unless you really need them, I wouldn't let the switch and volume controls kid you -- they really don't affect much on the positive or negative side. On occasion I've had them slip, but probably because I've dropped them so much (have I mentioned that this thing is durable?). The fit is quite comfortable -- they may feel a little tight at first, but after a few minutes of use they became almost as good as Bose (well, maybe not...but they cost 10-20 times less). The only complaint on the padding is that if I move around too much, sometimes it'll emit squeaking noises, fixable only by adjusting the fit a little bit. Still, for their price, the annoyances don't happen enough to outweigh the sound and comfort of these headphones.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I found these babies at Target for about fifteen bucks on sale. I thought I was buying a so-so pair of headphones for my portable CD player, but I've been using them exclusively ever since. First, they're extremely large, which is a good thing by my standards. I hate those itty-bitty headphones that press against your ears, and don't get me started on those little Q-tip things that you're supposed to stick INSIDE the ear. The Philips HP170s cover the entire ear, so you only feel them on your head as opposed to the ear itself. It's not unlike wearing a snug hat. Also of note is the generously long cord. I like to listen to headphones at night to help me fall asleep, and they allow a greater range of movement. I'll sometimes fall asleep with them on, only to wake up in the middle of the night, rip them from my head, and hurl them across the room. I've done this an embarassing number of times, yet the HP170 takes it in stride. These are by far the most durable phones I've ever used. The sound, the most important factor, is extremely good. Obviously, if you spend a little more you're going to get a better sound, but my HP170 sounds a lot better than the seventy-nine dollar pair I got from RadioShack. The bass is deep and rich, and each ear has it's own seperate volume control, which is nice if a little useless. Overall, I was very happy with my purchase, and I'm still using these headphones seven months later. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: They just don't fit. Review: i got these home, sat down, and put these on my head. the first thing that i found was that the head pillow thing just anoyed the hell out of me, making the headphones feel 3 times bigger than they really are. the second thing is the shape of these damn things. they don't fit flush against my head, only the bottom actualy contacts my skull. the upper part of the head phone is floating just behind my ear. this allowed too much ambient noise to dissolve the audio i was listening to. witch is an over statement. when the volume was turned all the way up on both, the audio became raspy. and the individual audio control, while clever for the people with a hearing disability, is more annoying to the average user. don't buy these. just don't. buy the Philips SBC HP550 instead, There 100 times better than these pieces of crap.
Rating: Summary: Worth it Review: I had the Philips SBC-HP140 for roughly 4 years, great set of phones. I bought the HP170 to replace them at home, and they've been great the past 6 months. I now need 'phones for my lab, and I have no hesitation in plumping for these again - they're a worthy successor to my excellent 140s. Highly recommend. I'd give 'em 4.5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Love Em` Review: I had these headphones for a whyle now and i absolutely love them. They just borke and i was really upset because i liked them so much. I love them to death. I used the attachment to plug into my guitar amp and play silently. Their great!! Well im gonna go get a new pair.
Rating: Summary: good until plastic connector broke Review: I have had these for about a year. I liked the sound and volume control and they are comfortable; however, the plastic connector between the head band and the earphone just broke (where it swivels a little bit). You can not really wear the headphones after that so I am looking for a replacement set now. I'll probably buy the same kind again since they are pretty cheap.
Rating: Summary: plug short Review: I have had these headphones for 4 months, 3 of those months i have been using only one side because of a short in the cord. I cannot fault the Headphones for the short because I tend to step on the long cord. so I spent 6 bucks for a new connector at another retailer and soldered it on. If I have another a problem I am going for a more expensive brand. The sound is great for the price tho.
Rating: Summary: Not too bad... some problems Review: I just got these and the first problem I encountered was the right speakers volume control wasn't working properly. When it was turned up all the way it would cut in and out unless I got it set in the right spot. Other than that they seem to work pretty well. They're not the most comfortable heaphones around (a little bit stiff) and as I write this and look at them, the covering for the left speaker is starting to come off... 15 minutes after I opened the box. Of course, for $(...) it's not a bad buy.
Rating: Summary: Great Headphones Review: I just purchased a pair of Philips SBC HP170 Full-Size Headphones, and I'm glad I did so. The sound is very crisp, clear and has a high quality. The headphones are light- weight and it does an excellent job of canceling exterior noises.
Rating: Summary: Philips HP170 Full-Size Headphones Review: I love this head phone, mostly because of the volume control in each ear. Also you can switch to mono / sterio. They are very comfortable to wear. I would highly recommand this headphone to anyone who would like to have volume control on each ear.
