Summary: Mid-Range headphones at their best
Review: A couple of weeks ago I was still using my wireless Phillips headset which also cost me 60$, but the flat-earpads made my ears hurt way 2 much. So I went on a search for a decent sounding, mid-priced but comfortable headset. I read about the HD500...

After getting the HD500 for 100$ (Which was the most I wanted to spend on a wired headset) I must say I've been very pleased with it thus far. The sound quality is great, the high-mid-low values are all well done, the Mids can (at times) get a little pressed by the excellent bass and pretty darn good highs though. I use this headset for my PC, so I also play games and the added bass does make the guns and the explosions sound nice and powerfull. Yet, don't get me wrong, the bass never gets to the point where it's 2 much (except if I put the bass on 100% using my speakers, then it's just an enormous amount of quality bass) it is, though, good 2 know that IF I ever need bass, this baby definently has it :D

And, ofcourse, my main quest: Comfort. Are these headphones comfortable?
The answer is: Yes; It could have used a little more air-circulation but overall you ears won't get hurt or sweaty, since they don't touch the insides, they just rest infront of it (unlike my old Phillips) and they're also very light, which helps raise the comfort level.

Overall, I've found that if these things are on your "Check" list this is THE headphone for you:

1.)Great sound quality. Not bad, not excellent.
2.)Don't need to go portable. Used for stationary devices only.
3.)Don't want to spend 200-300$ for a headphone. But still want quality.
4.)Comfortable to wear for long periods.

If that's what you want, this is an excellent headphone for you, and atleast you can say: 'I have a Sennheiser.' :P

Summary: Good value for certain kinds of music
Review: As others have mentioned, these headphones tend to emphasize the bass and sound too boomy for classical music or acoustic. But, if you're into heavy electronica, this is actually not bad. I got these at a decent bargain, so they were worth that price for the comfort and the decent sound. The Sennheiser SR60s may be a better choice for those who listen to lots of classical over their 'phones. For pop and electronica, I love these for the punch.

Summary: Comfortable, but sound is disappointing
Review: I bought them and later had to return.
These headphone are comfortable to wear and have all the usual Sennheiser stuff - like one ear detachable cord, easily replaceable parts and so on. They also represent low frequencies quite well, and are not easy to overload. But they TOTALLY suppress high frequencies. Some people believe that they just show you the true, uncolored sound. I think this is a mistake. You can compare the sound with the best headphons out there (like HD580) - and hear the difference. Of course you can use an equalizer to correct this problem - but hay, this is a Sennheiser, it's supposed to sound perfectly without ajustments.
By the way, HD570 have the opposite problem - they emphasize high frequences too much - which many people noticed and it's true.

Summary: Good but not everyhing has a replacement part
Review: I had these headphones for 3 yaers. Very comfortable. Good bass response. I listen to everyhing from Classical to Hip Hop. I replaced the cord a few months back. Now I am faced with a broken driver. I was on Sennheiser's site and could not find a replacement piece. Even though the driver pops right now. This is somewhat annoying. If you are not technical enough to do these sort of replacements then don't worry about this. But if you are capable of fixing it yourself look for a set that has total replacements. Like the HD580 or HD600.

Summary: the worst! really!
Review: I have owned a variety of headphones over the years. from very expensive electrostatic units to cheapy sony ear buds for my walkman. these are by a wide margin the worst headphone I have ever heard! why? while they show the ability to resolve and have a wide dynamic range they have been tuned so drastically to emphasize the bass that they are virtually unlistenable. I am not exagerating the extent of bass boost...to get a sound similar to my reference headphones (a pair of Grado reference phones) I need to turn down the bass control on my reciever by 75%! they resolve, they play the highs and mids well...but the bass is for a teenager who has no desire other than to hear BOOM,BOOM. this is the headphone equivalent to those horribly annoying cars you hear at stop lights thumping and bothering the whole neighborhood...so if you're "down" you might like these...if you want to hear music reproduced ANYWHERE like it was meant...stay away! regards, tony

Summary: Rock on!
Review: I love these phones after using them for about 2 months. Initially, i was slightly dissapointed because to me they sounded slightly muffled. The reason for this is because i've always owned cheaper headphones that artificially coloured the sound to favour the mid/high frequencies. The HD500 does not do this. In fact, it's very neutral and quite a flat frequency response. As such, the sound doesn't immediately "jump" at you, and people are more likely to be less impressed when listening for the first time (especially those used to headphones that are more "trebley"). However, like the previous reviewer, i find that these headphones are not fatiguing at all. The clarity and frequency extension is wonderful. These are best driven with a headphone amplifier or out of a good receiver/amp. Those wishing to use portables either get an amp or buy the HD400 range of phones.

Summary: Dude the bass is superb
Review: I read a bunch of reviews about these 'phones before I bought them. To a person the rap was the bass was too strong. BULL. Put them on,plug them in and hear stuff you never heard in your music. Granted I"m an old guy and I grew up on rock and roll.(Thats real music played by real musicians; see bonnie riatt, john hyatt, little feat, led zeppelin,CSNY,STONES) You can put these babies on and just relish in the sound;natural and as it was intended. These are great 'phones. I tried them on my pc(audigy2 sound card) and on my Yamaha home theater receiver. The music was as good or better than I can get from my Klipsch or B&W Loudspeakers. Not at the least bass heavy. If you dont like the bass response then adjust your setup! Ive had Koss and Sony high end headphones and these are much better in their clean reproduction of sound. These are honest. The price was unbelievable ($49) Very comfortableto wear for a good stretch of time. BUY THESE 'PHONES.

Summary: Eh..not great..could probably do better with another brand
Review: I use my boombox(see JVC RVB90AG)every day..most often with my Sony MDR-15 headphones. I wanted to buy another set of phones(because I had to buy another boombox(same one) for my daughter and try something new..although the Sony's have given me several years of problem-free service and sound great.. So I ordered the Sennheiser brand based on reviews and really the only thing I like about them was the long 10ft cord. The sound was clear and balanced BUT even with the volume at max the sound was not loud enough for me..so I will be returning the set I just received and will start looking at the sony brands.

Summary: Comfort, Quality, Price, you can't beat this
Review: It's a risk buying headphones over the internet because you can't hear the sound or feel the comfort. I had a less than satisfying experence with a set of Aiwa headphones. After reading of few customer reviews I took a chance on the Sennheiser Hd500. These are easily the best mid priced headphones I've tried. For the average listener who likes to crank it up now and then this is what you want. I can't possibly imagine what you get by spending more money. The sound is rich and clear while being very light and comfortable. These make the "old Standard" Koss pro AA pale in comparison.
