Summary: Great phone! Doesn't interfere with 802.11b/Wi-Fi LANs
Review: I've owned several cordless phones, but everyone of them has had a deal-killing flaw. Either the battery life was too short, the range was limited, too much interference, etc. I was very happy with a 2.4 ghz phone I purchased recently, but it interfered with my wireless computer network. If someone was using our laptop to connect to the Internet via the wireless network, and someone wanted to use the phone, either the wireless LAN went down or the phone had too much interference to have a conversation. This phone, which operates at 5.8 ghz rather than 802.11b's 2.4 ghz, doesn't interfere. That alone makes this phone a winner for me. On other issues, sound quality is terrific. Range seems as good, if not better, than any other phone I've used, and battery life is satisfactory. The phone is packed with useful features and is pretty intuitive to operate. I couldn't be happier with the phone.

Summary: Great Features--Terrible range!!!
Review: Ok this phone has great features. Easy to read display, stylish setup, speakerphone, etc, etc...But, I take the phone outside and I get maybe 200ft from the base and see ya..no signal. This is with the base on the second floor next to the window (direct line of sight from the handset.) I also live on a farm, in a wooden house without anyone else around. Other phones I've had before (we are talkin' $$$- 900MHz phones) have reached up to 700ft. When calling VTech to see if this could be a problem with this particular unit, the response is "We cannot give you a specific range." I would just like to know approximately what the range should be. No luck. Overall, the phone is good and works fine IN THE HOUSE, but if you need any range at all I would not purchase this phone.

Summary: Stick with 2.4GHz
Review: I bought this VTech phone last week from a local retailer and ended up exchanging it for another a few days later because we couldn't get the handset to recognize the base, even after entering the base ID into the handset over a dozen times and unplugging everything and letting it sit overnight. The 2nd phone found the base perfectly. However, the reception was so poor that I'll be returning that one too. The sound cut in and out and I could barely leave the room where the base was - taking the phone outside wasn't even possible before it dropped the call. I really liked the design and the functionality of this VTech, but 5.8GHz or not, this is one phone to avoid. Our house is brick and we've had reception problems with cordless phones in the past, but we've never had any problems with Panasonic. Go with the Panasonic KX-TG2700S instead. It's only a 2.4GHz, but I'm getting perfect reception with the Panasonic AND can take it outdoors without any problems.

Summary: A powerful phone from Vtech!
Review: In my opinion this is the best phone that Vtech has ever made and has the best handset sound I've ever heard in a cordless phone. The one thing that stands out with this phone is the sound quality.....it is excellent. Very quiet, no extra noise and plenty of volume, one of my requirements. The range on this phone is very good. The base works well, I only wish that the buttons were bigger and weren't slick. I found my fingers sliding off the buttons while trying to push them. Also Vtech should have either designed the base or furnished an adapter to tilt the unit so you could see the lcd display. I found myself having to stand up to see who was calling. The speaker phone on the base is very good but not as good as my 2.4 Cidco D271, it has the best speaker phone I've ever used. I would rate Vtech's speaker phone a notch below the Cidco. The displays on both the handset and base are very easy to read and controls are laid out well. Another complaint that I have is the way the caller ID works, which is not just limited to Vtech. Some manufacturers have what's called caller ID matching, which is when a call arrives and a match is made in the directory it is displayed as it's shown in the directory. In other words when mother calls it's shown as "Mother" just how I entered it into the directory. Why more manufactures don't use this technology is beyond me. Overall this new technology 5.8 GHz phone from Vtech is very good and would have received 5 stars if it wasn't for the speakerphone and the way the base is not tilted.

Summary: Great Deal for Great Item
Review: This is a very Great Deal for V-Tech Cordless phone. This phone has very wide network and have display facility on both i.e. on Handset and on Cordless. I personally believe this facilities are not available on any other company cordless with so cheap price. I recommend every body to go for this cordless phone only. Thanks Amit Singhania

Review: I live in a small, older house that has only one phone jack. This phone is great for a situation like that. I purchased two handsets on clearance and have them set up in other areas of the house. It also works well outside of the house. In my opinion, it is well worth the money.

Summary: Don't buy this phone if you have a wireless network
Review: As some have mentioned in this review section., this is not a true 5.8 phone. I have a G-wireless network set up and use vonage as phone service. The calls I make from this always break up and I thought it was Vonage. I used a corded phone and the sound quality of my call was impeccable. I bought this phone because I thought it was true 5.8 and wouldn't interfere with wireless, boy was I wrong.
DON'T BUY THIS PHONE IF YOU HAVE A WIRELESS NETWORK.
however, the speakerphone on the handset and the console are superb, extremely loud. I think this could be a great phone if you don't have a wireless network.

Summary: Worked great when it would charge
Review: This phone system worked great for our house -- in conjunction with our wireless network as well -- for a little while. After about 4 months of use, whenever the phones were put onto the charging cradles, they would charge for a few seconds, but then the charging light would go out and the phones stopped charging. When this first started happening, I only had to adjust the position of the phone or clean the connections -- annoying but it worked for a little while. Now, nothing works and we can't get the phones to charge consistently. We're trashing these phones and now looking for new ones.

Summary: Good Phone, but NOT 5.8 GHz
Review: This is a very good phone. In nearly a year I have not experienced one thing negative. Sure, you pratically have to have a PHd in EE if you want to delve into anything but the basic usage of this phone, but that is another story for another time. What needs to be said about this phone is this : IT IS NOT A 5.8 GHz PHONE!
RTFM, People! It is a 2.4/5.8 GHz phone. The base transmits 5.8 GHz, but the handset transmits at 2.4 GHz. So, people looking for a phone that won't screw up their 802.11x wireless home networks better look elsewhere.
What goes unsung about this phone is the speakerphone built into the handset and the base station. For the money, it is doubtful you are going to find better. Yes, people can still tell you are on a speakerphone, but I have yet to have someone complain about the sound quality. A go-nearly-anywhere speakerphone with an almost-never-say die battery? Fuhgedaboudit!
Oh, one other unsung feature of the this phone. The charger for a spare battery (and if you have teen girls you know of whence I speak!) is built into the base station. Now that is a cool touch. Push the button, out pops the tray, slap in the battery, slide it closed, and you are chargin', man!
Bottom line : Great value, unsung features, and solid performance. It is NOT a true 5.8 GHz phone, however.

Summary: Can't communicate with Talk America Caller ID
Review: We bought this phone to replace an old Pansonic cordless. It would not show who was calling on caller ID. Tried talking to VTech customer support but they are located somewhere outside the country and really couldn't help beyond reading from various manuals they must keep on line. Thought maybe it was just this model so ventured off to Best Buy to try a new VTech model. It wouldn't communicate either. Returned both and have settled for a Uniden with base speaker phone. First try it recognized and displayed caller ID info. Be careful if you use Talk America as your provider!
