Summary: Definitely the best pick
Review: I bought this phone set 5 months ago and have been very happy with it. I wanted a wireless phone set with high clarity sound, was expandable (one handset for the home office and one other for general use), had caller ID waiting and speaker capability on handsets as well as the base, and could handle the range (for use outside). I did not want an answering machine because I have a smart fax that serves that purpose already. This phone set has exceeded my needs. I like having the capability of unique phone lists for each phone, too (numbers for customers on my office handset and family/friends on my general use handset). I can walk all the way to my back fence and the person on the other line says I am crystal clear even on the speakerphone (they are clear as well - clean sound). It would be nice if the caller ID didn't stack up with same name callers (vs. depicting one entry with the number of times they called). Overall, I highly recommend this product.

Summary: Not the best
Review: This is probably the worst phone I have ever owned. The sound quality is tin-can at best, the rings are all annoying, the buttons are teeny and hard to use.

Summary: Don't buy V-Tech
Review: This phone looks great in theory. One base with expansion headsets! In reality the sound quality is poor. The range is minimal. In less than three months I had problems with reception. My friends told me it sounded like I was under water. I now have an AT&T that works great! The gentleman in the phone store told me he gets more returns on VTech than any other brand.

Summary: Finally a great cordless phone
Review: I recently purchased this phone about 2 months ago and have waited for something to go wrong with it like all of my other phones. I have been extremely happy with this one. Sound and clarity is wonderful and keeps it's clarity even when I am outside with it watching my kids play. Battery life is good. I have nothing bad to say about it. It was simple to set up and easy to access from remote locations. I am now going to purchase an extra handset since I am so pleased with it.

Summary: Simple & superb
Review: This is the 4th cordless phone I've owned and the best reception & transmission so far. I have the phone base station set up right next to an Apple Airport Base and there is absolutely no intereference whatsoever. The separate units for phone charger and base phone provides maximum flexibility. The memory is easy to set-up and access, although I do miss the one-touch speed dial feature (which seems to have been eliminated in this entire new generation of cordless phones...I searched everywhere). Battery life is better than the Panasonic I owned last...just charge as directed and there is no problem. The handset has a sleek design and a nice feel, along with a wonderful speakerphone built-in...this is a terrific feature. And it's expandable! This is the best-priced feature-packed 5.8 GHz cordless phone available, a TRUE VALUE.

Summary: A winner
Review: I've used primarily VTech and Panasonic phones for years now. I replaced my Panasonic with the 5831 and 3 additional 5820 handsets. This phone isn't perfect - but it's awfully close.

Yes, it's dual-band - but the 2.4GHz is reserved for the handset, and it's lower power, so there's less room for interference with your 802.11b/g equipment. My Panasonic 2.4GHz hosed my 802.11b network, but these phones work just fine with it.

It would have been nice if the handsets shared more info with the base station, but that's a minor quibble. A bigger quibble is that sometimes, when you press a number quickly twice in a row, it only registers once. Not that big of a deal if you remember to look, but it shouldn't happen at all.

I've recommended this phone to many people and they've all been very satisfied. They're very attractive, too, and they haven't been scuffed yet. (My Panasonic lost its shiny silver coating fairly quickly.)

Regarding the 'no redial button' - there is one. It's the leftmost menu button. It's a softmenu, so if you look above it, you'll see quite clearly that it's labeled 'REDIAL'. (The three items are 'REDIAL', 'MENU', and 'MEM'.) Press it and it will pop up a list of your most recently called numbers - then press 'ON' and it will dial it for you.

Summary: Vtech 5831
Review: This phone is awesome! Super clear reception, crystal clear screen, perfect volume control, lots of range. The only downside I found in 3 weeks of ownership is no redial button on phone. For anyone looking for a phone and speakerphone to roam around house (mine is three stories) I would recommend this one.

Summary: VTech 5831
Review: Excellent product. I had no problems installing and using. I had read previous reviews and had concerns with interference from my currently installed wi-fi and wireless telephone devices. The only concern would be using the phone base if installed close to the other wireless devices. My devices are all based in sparate rooms aprox. 15 feet away.

Summary: It's not really 5.8 GHz
Review: The cordless phone works, and is clear. But be warned. This is not a true 5.8 GHz phone. The base transmits at 5.8 GHz, but the phones transmit at 2.4GHz. So if you're buying this in order to reduce interference with a wireless network (or from a microwave), look elsewhere. It will not solve your problems.

Summary: nice features, but disappointed
Review: I bought this phone because it was a 5.8 ghz and thinking it would have a very good range. When I would walk out of my house for about 15' there was no connection. Also, there was constant chopping. I retuned it. I think the higher you go (in technology)the worse it gets. So I bought a 2.4ghz, However I think that I was more satisfied with 900.
