Summary: Good -- for a month
Review: I have had this phone for quite a while now and it didn't work right about 2 months into its use. All of a sudden during my conversations it would get fuzzy for about 1 second then come back. It would do this about every 7 seconds without stopping. I talked to panasonic and they said to replace the battery. Needless to say that didn't help either...Also, my friend got one the same time I did and he had the same problem! Don't get this phone!

Summary: Nice phone, but buggy
Review: I have owned this phone now for about a year. The first problem I observed with it is a problem with calling numbers in the phone book. You find the person you want to call, push talk, and nothing happens. However, try again a few more times, and bingo, it works. Annoying, but not the end of the world. The next problem, annoying clicking during calls, don't even have to be far away from the base for this to happen. Doesn't happen every call, but enough to now want me to get another phone. The latest problem, I place the phone back on the base, and it won't charge. I have to spend 30 seconds giggling it around to get it to sit correctly so the thing will charge.

This phone had a lot of potential, but I would not recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Great out of the gate but just doesn't seem to finish
Review: I have the 2550S and it was great for well over a year and then it started going downhill...

1 - The apparently famous "Out of range" notification. Always amazing whether one is right next to the base or directly above it on the next floor. Especially fun when the phone would ring, you press talk and it decides it can't reach the base suddenly???

2 - What we've determined is the 10 minute static barrier. If we use the phone for a single conversation which goes above 10 minutes after not using it all day, it turns a horrid static state which is really hard to deal with. The person on the other end is all but inaudible.

3 - Thinking it might be the battery (10 minutes of consecutive or nearly consecutive talk causes a problem? might be the battery) we bought a new one for ~[$$$] which did _nothing_ to resolve the problem.

So, I'm stuck with a dud phone which I will be replacing here soon enough. Based on what I've read and my own experience, I won't be buying another panasonic even though the features themselves were quite nice.

Caveat emptor.

Summary: Best cordless phone I've ever used.
Review: I live in an apartment building. I've taken the phone into the hallway and into other apartments on the same floor. No problems. Crystal clear. Haven't tested it outdoors though, but I don't think it would be a problem for this phone. The only downside to this phone is the earpiece is not as loud as I'd like it to be. The microphone is VERY sensitive. Although I can't hear it myself, people have told me they can't tell whether I'm on a cordless or a corded phone.

If you're one of those people who consistently loses their cordless phones, you'll like the paging feature. It keeps beeping (loudly) until you hit the page button again. No more running back to the base to hit the page button several times.

The Ni-MH battery also means you don't have to completely discharge the battery before recharging it; no "memory effect". This means no replacing the battery every year or two. It'll last much longer than typical Ni-C batteries in most cordless phones.

They really should've put call ID capability on this phone, but oh well.

This phone is definitely worth it's price.

Summary: Fine while it lasted
Review: I'm really unhappy with this phone. It worked great for a little under a year, and now it's totally unusable. Everything comes out very distorted and I can barely hear what anybody is saying. I really do expect a product like this to last more than a few months! Given how many of the reviews mention reliability problems, I'd recommend taking any review by somebody who has owned this phone for less than six months with a big grain of salt.

Summary: The phone works great - 3 issues
Review: Issue 1 - sometimes when I try to make a call, it will show out of range, even if I'm next to the base. If you turn it off and on, it works.

Issue 2 - Tons of noise if I use it near a microwave (within 30' or so)

Issue 3 - there is no mute button. :(

Summary: Over 6 months.... not worth the $$
Review: It's hit or miss with this phone. When it works it's great. My first one lasted less than one year with minimal use; just one of 8 phones in our home. Second phone came DOA, hard to get dial tone like many others describe. I keep buying them and returning them until I can shake this lemon (I refuse to get stuck with a lousy service situation of mailing it away for repair etc.). Hopefully three is a charm. I will never buy another Panasonic phone. They should simply replace bad phones instead of trying to stick people with garbage and losing customers forever. Bad business.

Summary: Great sound -- but uncomfortable to hold
Review: Just purchased this phone after reading the reviews. Sound quality is excellent; alas, the feel of the phone itself is not. The layout of the keypad is dazzlingly high tech, but decidedly confusing. For example, rarely-used functions have a big center key, while the all-important "talk" button is off to the side and too small for the job. But all this I could live with. The real problem is that the shape of the handset is wrong -- it is straight and rigid (hard plastic), and gets very uncomfortable held up to the ear for calls of more than a few minutes. In the end, we sent ours back, and have opted for the Sanyo CLT-937A instead.
