Summary: OK if you don't mind a constant buzzing sound
Review: I just don't get it. It is clear from these reviews, and the fact that EVERY unit for sale at the local frys had a "returned sticker" on them that there is a flaw in these units that makes them just about worthless as a high end unit. A loud buzzing maybe OK in a $19 bottom of line generic phone, but a unit selling for $159??? Why would AT&T put their name on it??? Everyone's going to take them back and feel less confident about the AT&T brand name. I'm just upset that I wasted my time.

However, if you just use the speakerphone in the base unit and toss the cordless handset, you might be happy with this phone.

Summary: High-quality stuff
Review: I just got this phone today. It is pretty impressive. Since there are no specs on Amazon.com, so I will add one.

The sharp-as-a-tack metallic charcoal 2440 model ATT speakerphone operates at a digital 2.4GHz bandwidth--the ultimate in cordless transmission. Frequency hopping Spread Spectrum technology assures you secure high fidelity connections. Multi-handset capability accommodates up to 4 satellite handsets. Clearspeak full duplex speakerphone in base.

Features: Dual keypads.

Lighted keypad. Spare battery charger. Power fail operation. 50 name and number directory. Cordless handset speakerphone. 4-way conferencing. Announced call transfers. 2-way page/intercom. Visual message waiting. Software enhanced lighted display Caller ID with Call Waiting capability. 50 name/number Caller ID history. Software enhanced lighted display

Pretty good. I don't have a 2nd handset (which I plan to get soon), but you can call bettween and transfer calls. I already tried this to the base, and it works great. Unlike the Vtech phone, you don't have to type in the handset #, it gives you a menu with all the phones that are connected. The phone is like a cell phone. You can dial the number and press phone. Press off to hang up. Pressing phone while on a call is flash (call waiting). I like the way the caller id is organized. The only thing I think is that the sound quality could be better. I don't know if it because the battery is not fully charged, but the base has no antenna (unlike Panasonic gigarange). I have yet to test the range (I got like 300 feet with my "old" Lucent/ATT 900 mhz DSS's, I expect at least 500 feet, but I cannot expect a mile or so as promised by panasonic due to the lack of an antenna on the base)

Summary: Nice features, Lousy Reception & Sound Quality
Review: I purchased this phone because I thought the range would better that of my 900mHz DSS phone by Sony. Boy was I wrong. Not only is the range not even near that of my previous phone, even when I am in range, the sound quality is terrible - the reception is choppy, resulting in a stutter in the sound of my voice to whoever I am talking to. Also, about 1 in 3 calls, the caller can barely hear me when I am speaking directly into the handset microphone. This appears to be more than an isolated problem, as I am on my second one and both have had exactly the same problems. Hope this helps.

Summary: Returned it the same day
Review: I purchased this phone to replace a Panasonic kx-tg2570 that had it's useful range drop to 10ft. I unpacked the 2440, hooked it up, charged it for a little while and tried to make a call. The "hissing" noise from the earpiece was so LOUD I immediately repacked it and returned to the store. I had a 6 year old, 900MHz, ATT phone that sounded 100 times better. What happened?

Don't buy this phone - unless you prefer one way conversations.

Summary: Horrible Telephone
Review: I too had very high expectations for this phone. I had one simple purchasing rule, if it doesn't sound better than my trusty old [price] (2 years ago) AT&T 900 Mhz phone, it isn't worth it. I figured since I was so satisfied with my old AT&T 900 Mhz phone, this new AT&T 2.4 would blow me away. It blew me away alright, with how downright lousy the sound quality was. In a nutshell, there is a very noticable hiss in the background. I also heard echos of my own voice while talking. I can't comment on range due to my dwelling being single floor. I really hated to return it because I thought the features were fantastic. It had every bell and whistle a gadget freak could hope for. Unfortunately, the "gee-whiz" factor tends to wear off rather quickly and you're left with a poor sounding phone. I've noticed a trend in the phone reviews and my personal buying experience. Is it me or does it seem there are no good quality phones anymore?

Summary: Follow up
Review: I used my friend's vtech 2.4 ghz phone, and it is the same exact thing, I also saw this at the sharper image the other day, but under that brand. Having to press the handset number is only from the base on both the ATT and vtech. When you pick up another phone, this will beep and say "parallel handset in use" or "extension in use".

The range is horrible, my 900mhz DSS phones have MUCH better range.

Summary: Fooled!
Review: I was torn between this phone and the Vtech, and because of the ATT name I chose this one. Fooled! Ths background hiss in the handset is very annoying. So much so that the phone is going back tomorrow. Maybe the Vtech will be better...

Summary: Great sound quality and simple user interface
Review: I'm a former telephone engineer so I am very picky about sound quality in my phones. I am very pleased with the 2440.

The sound quality of the phone is excellent. I have experienced none of the hissing and buzzing etc that other reviewers have. In fact, this is the best sounding cordless phone I've ever used! I was beginning to despair of finding one that didn't drive me crazy because of the sound quality.

The user interface is another pleasant surprise. Programming new numbers into memory is simple. I have a Uniden cordless that requires a trip to the users manual (and I HATE to use manuals) every time I need to add, edit or delete a memory location.

Overall, an excellent phone...I'm buying more handsets!

Summary: Very Good Product
Review: I've been using this product, with two handsets, for almost two years. It has been in every part of my home, which is over 3,000 sq ft. in addition to the basement, garage and front and rear yards. I can't say that I've ever experience anything less than first class service. I have no complaints and I don't hesitate in recommending it.
