Summary: Disappointed
Review: I had to purchase one of these phones. I heard such good things about Uniden products in the past, and had high hopes for this one when I finally picked one up. Wow, how disappointed! I don't know what the quality of the sound was, what the range was, how long the battery lasts or anything. Because, after allowing the phone to charge for a full 27 hours, it would not work. When I would pick up the handset and press talk, there was no dial tone, although I received one throught the base unit (speakerphone). The phone had all the features I was looking for except for limited number memory (only 10). Too bad it was a lemon. I guess you should read reviews before you buy and not after. Good luck if you purchase one of these.

I took the Uniden back and bought a Panasonic. Will let you know about that one soon.

Summary: Top quality phone!
Review: I have been using a Sony Digital 900Mhz (based on the Vtech chipset) for about 2 years and didn't realize how poor the quality was, until I got this phone for Christmas. The full duplex speakerphone has wonderful sound quality, I have used it from a far as 20ft without any hindrance to the conversation. The sound quality of the phone, the caller id features, and the range of use are all top of the line. My ONLY complaint with this selection is the lack of a speakerphone dialpad on the base.

Summary: Good Looks, Poor Reception!
Review: I have owned this phone for about 2 mos. now. Bought it from another retailer. Looks great. Great controls. Caller ID is great. Main problem is an occasional clicking, on/off type sound during conversations-even if it's only a five minute call. Otherwise clarity is good. Called Uniden twice. Not very helpful. They told me to move my phone out of kitchen which is pretty sad when you consider our Uniden 900MHz phone worked flawlessly with its base in the kitchen FOREVER! Advice: Don't buy. I'm taking mine back.

Summary: Try another manufacturer
Review: I purchased this phone around a month ago. The controls were clumsy. The memory dial functions would let me edit the text message but not the phone number. Thats simply stupid. The reception was ok but the clarity was worse than I would have expected. The final straw was that the answering machine would not successfully take the phone off hook. I would hear it pick on the 4th reing and hear the garbled prompt over a dialtone in the background. Callers would get 5 rings and then voicemail. I exchanged my unit for a new one and it acted the same. Uniden help was not helpful when I called during the day. Uniden was too busy at night and simply told me to call back and hung up. Try anything else. I'm simply glad I was able to return it for a refund.

Summary: Talk button keeps breaking
Review: I purchased this phone/answering machine about 18 months ago. The sound quality is poor on the answering machine. I frequently have to replay messages to understand what the caller is saying. The number keys on the handset are placed in such a way that I often inadvertently hit them with my chin or mouth when talking on the phone. This produces that annoying beep in the ear of the person on the other end of the call. I'm also not impressed by the clarity of the sound on the phone. Recently, the number 7 button is sticking. Our area code begins with a 7, so it's been quite annoying. I called the repair area and it will cost me (dollar amount)to have it repaired. No thanks, I'll take my $(...)and buy a Sony. No more Unidens for me. To get one final complaint in on this product, the customer service reps were not very knowledgeable and not very friendly.

Summary: Don't bother with this one
Review: I tried 2 different 2480 phones from a local retailer:

1) neither one would charge the battery in the base.

2) The "echo" effect was quite noticeable when talking to others in the handset.

3) The answering machine sometimes indicated a date/time of a message, other times did not.

4) Heard loud clicks at times when using the handset. The person on the other end could hear them as well. Sounded like a bad connection on a corded phone.

5) When the battery got low, there was very little warning. The beeping was quite annoying. And after I finished the call I was on, I couldn't even get a dial tone from the handset. I would have expected there to be a little better notice on low battery condition.

Calls to Uniden's Customer Service showed their ignorance to the product. They claimed the additional battery holder didn't charge as fast as the one in the handset, or it was for a backup, r that I was only supposed to charge the battery in the handset. They also told me the echo was "normal". They said the clicking was caused by flourescent lighting and to move the base out of the room with those lights.

Hey it just wasn't worth it. It's overpriced compared to 900 MHz models. I now have the 9800 and so far works fine. I still have my doubts about the quality of personnel at Uniden, though.
