Rating: Summary: Great phone ...with a few quirks. Review: I have had this phone for 1 year now. It works exremely well most of the time. The clarity is good particularly with the answering machine. Clearest and most natural I've ever had. I have found the range outstanding!! I have walked several hundred yards away from the base with a slight diminishing of volume before it shuts off. The quirks... I feel that the change channel button is strictly for looks. When I do get interference (about once a month... and it is very bad when this happens.. I get the lady from upstairs' phone cutting in and I hear very clearly her conversation. We do not have the same brand of phone...) The only thing that works is putting the phone back on the base to re-set it's self. Also at times the handset volume seems to diminish somewhat. AND the answering machine volume seems to reset it self to low magically at times and I have to change it to higher. All that said... Great phone great price.. don't want these annoyances? spend another 50 bucks. But who is to say that the extra price will wield a less quirky phone? Bottom line. It works EXTREMELY well... usually.
Rating: Summary: middle of the road Review: I have not had the reception problems that others have had. And I do find the time set up annoyingly long. And I have been able to carry my phone outside and got perfect reception, which has been extremely helpful on more than one occasion. BUT... the rechargeable battery drains VERY quickly, and you have about 10-15 seconds warning (beeps) before you get disconnected -- not at all good. The primary reason I bought this one instead of a panasonic as I have before was it's shape. My cat liked to walk on the panasonic (all the ones on sale where I was shopping were basically flat) and I got tired of my messages starting at 3am; I have to admit the triangular shape is very succesful in discouraging late night walks by adventurous felines.
Rating: Summary: Worst Phone I've ever owned Review: I have owned this phone for 3 months. In that short time, the phone started doing bizarre things....static during phone calls, the Voice mail light was always blinking (whether there was voice mail or not) and then finally it just stopped working altogether (I was trying to make a phone call and it would work long enough for the other party to answer and then die). Never again will I buy a GE phone
Rating: Summary: phone returned in four days Review: I purchased the non-Caller ID version of this phone on a Friday, and returned it on Wednesday. It dropped every call I was on at least once. The reception was frequently interrupted by static. Finally, the buttons on the handset intermittently and randomly had to be pushed multiple times for them to register back to the central office. Shame really, it's a great looking phone.
Rating: Summary: This is a terrible phone Review: I purchased this phone from Target and it was a terrible phone. The phone had constant static and had no range. Now I know that this phone is not a true 2.4 GHZ. This means that it is 2.4 GHZ to the handset and 900mhz from the handset to the base. I thought the styling of the phone was great and I loved the illuminated antenna. Oh, that brings me to my next point, the keypad is not illuminated just the screen. You can at least check the numbers you are dialing. The answering machine leaves much to be desired as well. I think that GE has a great beta for a product and the price sure seemed right at the time. They just need to refine their technology and I think this would be a wonderful phone. BTW I took it back and bought the Uniden TRU248, what a great phone.
Rating: Summary: too much hiss Review: I should have read these reviews more carefully before obtaining this product. For a cordless phone, I expect that the sound quality will be poorer than a corded phone, but not this bad. The hiss and static comes from out of no where and changing the channels does nothing to stop it. I'd rather go back to my corded phone. There is also no volume adjustment on the ringer. It's either on or off.
Rating: Summary: Nice Phone Review: I think the phone is nice and had no problem programming it. It has plenty of features...I have read the other reviews, and i guess my opinion is "you get what you pay for". I think for the price, this phone does everything you need or want it to do. It was hard to find a phone at this price with all of the features that it has. Yes, the programming buttons are a bit small, however, the phone is very "compact", it doesnt take up a lot of space, and who would want jumbo and noticable programming buttons on the side. In my opinion the buttons are small to keep the phone nice looking and "compact". No, it doesnt have an "illuminated" number pad, but i never gave it a second thought since our last phone didnt either. Yes, i do have one complaint, which is why i am giving a 4 star instead of 5. I dont like the way the hand set sits in the base. It doesnt seem to be securely "guarded" by anything. (unless i have it placed wrong, but i dont think i do). I am surprised nobody brought this up in other reviews. I keep my phone on my kitchen table. I fear with one good "jolt" of the table, the hand set may go flying. I will probably need to secure the phone in a different location.
Rating: Summary: AWFUL PHONE!!!! Review: It loses audio all the time! WAY too much static. I can't BELIEVE this is a 2.4Ghz phone!!! String and 2 cans is more sophisticated!
Rating: Summary: Best cordless I have ever owned Review: My mother says I sound better on the GE cordless than I do on a corded phone. Believe me that is extremely high praise. I never tell my mother if I'm on a cordless phone or not...she usually tells me. And she has always been right....until now. Two days after I got the phone, I called and had been talking a while and I asked her if she could hear me OK and if I sounded really clear. She answered yes to both questions. Then I told her I was on a cordless and she absolutely refused to believe me. My previous cordless was a Motorola flip phone, which had great security features, but very poor voice quality. That phone cost me $99 five years ago and had no extra features. When the Motorola was farthest from the base--and that really can't be that far in my small apartment, there was static and a weakening of the signal. This GE shows no signs of static or weak signals. The sound is EXTREMELY clear. I called my office voice mail using each phone and recorded a message on my voicemail. At work I listened to both messages and I was even shocked by the extreme difference. This GE is the best cordless phone I have ever owned or used. I'm not one to read manuals unless I absolutely have to and I have found this phone to be intuitive in design. Everything seems easy for me to figure out.
Rating: Summary: 2.4GHz isn't all it's cracked up to be Review: Pros: -A really nice looking phone -Good features -Comfortable on the ear -Fairly long battery life -Small and light design -Answering machine is easy to setup Cons: -Occasionally won't bring up Caller ID info (20% of the time) -Caller ID list gets out of order sometimes -Clarity and reception are often very poor (70% of the time) -Channel button usually doesn't improve clarity -Range is pretty short (I've lost reception from 30 ft away) Bottom Line: With all of the features and good looks it's worth the price. If you're really concerned about clarity and range though, this phone will probably disappoint you.
