Rating: Summary: I was expecting more from this phone Review: I recently purchased the Uniden TRU248 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone. Before reading the other reviews on this site, I thought the problems with my phone may have been caused by things beside the phone. I thought it may be that the recent snow storms or the towers a few miles away were affecting my phone's reception. Calls are hard to hear and callers have a hard time hearing me. I have tried changing channels and that does not change things at all. I have a 900mhz portable phone (not a Uniden) that gets excellent reception even with the recent storms and nearby towers. I will be returning my Uniden TRU248 2.4 GHz phone for another brand.
Rating: Summary: Don't Buy This Product! Review: I subscribe to Caller ID with Call Waiting Caller ID and was looking for a cordless phone to meet that need and also have an answering device. I heard Uniden is the best. Hah! I purchased another Uniden product-a 900 Mhz model-two months ago. The Caller-ID funtion only worked when I was on the phone. I finally got through to the customer service department only to have them tell me to unplug it and plug it back in again. That didn't work. I took it back and bought the TRU248. The caller ID functioned...at first. I compared the calls to another phone in my home which has Caller ID and noticed some were missing from the Uniden. Now it won't tell me who is calling at all. It either says "Incoming Call" or something isn't available. I tried calling Uniden's customer service department (they don't want us to return the phone to the stores) only to have it continuously tell me the representatives were too busy and to call back. Thank goodness I bought it at Target and had 90 days to return it..which I will be doing. Two different models of Uniden having the same problem spells trouble. If anybody can give me a good make and model of a cordless phone which has the same features as this one, please e-mail me. So far I have had bad luck with V-tech, AT&T, General Electric and now Uniden. Help!!

Rating: Summary: Doesn't Quite Cut It Review: I went for the 2.4ghz model by Uniden because I have their 900mhz DSS phone and it's great. However, the 2.4ghz model is a terrible disappointment and a shame for Uniden. What a disgrace. They should hang their heads in shame for releasing this one.1. The range is terrible. I can't get 10 feet out my door without enormous static and clicking noises until the connection finally drops. I have tried relocating the phone, and it's no better. I also put it in the EXACT place where my 900mhz phone was, and no better either. 2. There is an echo. Not the kind of echo as in a delayed sound, but you hear yourself back through the headset, and it's somewhat annoying. 3. Party on the other end compared it to my 900mhz phone, and said the 900mhz was much clearer. Sorry Uniden. If I'm going to pay $100 for a phone, it's going to at least be clear and get me around the block. Try again. I'm looking for another brand now.
Rating: Summary: cute but it hurt my ear! Review: My husband liked the looks of this phone and so did I. Unfortunately, we did not like the "feel" of the phone - it did not feel comfortable next to your ear - in fact, it sort of hurt! Also, we echo other folk's comments - it echos! Our cheap old phone sounds better. Finally, our 15 month old daughter was able to erase our carefully recorded message in just one push of a button. (and we spent so much time getting her to say something on it!!!)
Rating: Summary: Great Phone Review: This is one of the best phones I have owned. It is no a gimmicky type phone and has all the features I need. I haven't had the bad experiences with mine that some of these people are writing about. Great phone, buy one. They are discounted now that the newer model is out. BTW the newer model has all the same features (minus the keypad) as this phone, just a sleeker look.
Rating: Summary: TRU248 needs LOUDNESS and DSL filter Review: This Uniden cordless phone has some nice features: 20 number memory that you can scroll thru by name (that you have programmed in) press talk and presto you have made a call. I hate memorizing numbers. The answering machine is easy to use with voice recording quality of very good; you can tell who left a message without them leaving their name. I noticed no interference from our microwave oven and the phone signal is clear throughout our house and also up to two houses down the block. Biggest problem is that the headphone speaker volume doesn't increase in loudness as much as I would like. Sometimes our house gets noisy with the kids and TV. But having the headset jack helps with volume problem. Another problem noted is that when my DSL modem is on I get static over the phone. This problem was fixed by attaching a low-pass filter onto the phone (this is recommended by phone company). I did not have this problem with my old 43 MHz cordless phone that this Uniden phone is replacing.
Rating: Summary: User Friendly Review: This unit is very user friendly. Small, comfortable, good looking. You barely have to read the instructions. Very logical. Would definitely recommend this product.
Rating: Summary: By far the best phone I've owned Review: We shopped around for a phone with several VERY KEY FEATURES this phone had all of them: A back-lighted keypad for dialing in the dark (we both take call at night and must make phone calls to patients, and nursing facilities at all hours of the night), Caller ID IN THE HAND SET (who needs caller ID in a cordless phone if you have to run across the room to see that cablevision is trying to sell you channels again), 2.4 GHZ digital transmission (to avoid buzzing and etc.), an earpiece jack (for those long calls with relatives while you DO something more interesting), a free standing speakerphone, and an answering machine with prerecorded messages. This phone fit the bill- in a huge way- and we never- I MEAN NEVER- have had any problems with this phone. I have never had a phone which has gotten as much USE as this one, and I've never had one perform this well. We haven't even had to replace the battery. I have only changed chanels manually approximately once a week to avoid a buzzing sound when the microwave was running, and have never dropped a call- not one. Even with several particularly NASTY drops, the handset held up to it all. Unfortunately, all of the USE has taken it's toll on the handset, however- the platinum colored paint has worn on the sides of the phone, and the buttons have finally begun to wear out- which requires mashing them to dial (from years of listening to dozens of rambling voicemail messages at work per day- which requires hundreds of keyed entries alone). We will have to retire this model as I am unable to locate another handset. We have now purchased a Uniden DCT648-2 with 2 handsets, and can only hope that it lives up to it's older and perfectly performing brother.
