Description:

The Panasonic KXTG2550 cordless phone provides all you need to get the most from subscription telephone services such as caller ID and voice mail. Its twin-band transmission gives you virtually interference-free conversation at an incredible range.

Sturdy construction and rubberized trim protect this nicely designed unit against everyday wear and tear and accidental splashes. The backlit LCD is easy to read, and the keypad is intuitive. A large navigator key controls most of the functions, while the LCD displays your options.

Basic features include memory dialing, redial, and a handset locator. Although the navigator key serves as four buttons in one, it requires you to work with other buttons when programming. For example, to store a number in memory, press the function button to activate the navigator key, scroll to "program," scroll to "save directory," enter a name, and finally enter the phone number. In addition, you press the OK button in between each of these steps. Dialing a stored number, however, is not as involved, and the phone's directory stores up to 30 names listed alphabetically. Redial is also accessed through the function and navigator buttons. The handset locator is a large button conveniently located on the base.

If you subscribe to caller ID with call waiting or voice mail, the KXTG2550 provides easy access to these services. The caller ID indicator will flash and the LCD displays the caller's name, number, time, and date. The LCD allows you to see new caller information even while you're on another call. You can store up to 50 numbers in the caller list. Caller ID functions can be accessed using the navigator key. Call waiting is simply accessed by pressing the flash button. If you receive voice mail, the LCD and an indicator on the base will alert you. To get your messages, simply press the voice mail button on the handset. We were most impressed with the long range and sound clarity of the KXTG2550. With its dual-antenna system, one for transmitting and one for receiving, your conversations will be virtually static-free. We took the handset outside, approximately 1,000 feet from the base, before detecting any interference. The phone performed just as well inside behind walls, up stairs, and near electronic equipment. --Emily Bakko
