Rating: Summary: Terrible product Review: I actually went to the effort of creating an Amazon account in order to review this product in the hope that eventually this will get back to a motorola product design person. I used to think of motorola products as well engineered but badly designed - witness the lousy button layout of the predecessor to this phone. However, this phone gets the design right but totally fails in the engineering department! I have actually exchanged this 3 times, unable to believe that motorola would put together a product with a battery life of at best 1 hour talk time and maybe one day off the base and a consistently faulty keypad. The keypad is smallish change, but I didn't buy a cordless phone in order to keep it sitting on the base all day, and after using three of these phones at a max 20 foot range from the base station I know it's not just the one phone! Shame on you, motorola-you couldn't possibly have shipped these things without knowing about this problem. Don't waste your money on this thing!
Rating: Summary: good features, poor quality keypad Review: I bought this phone October 2003 and now I have to replace it only 14 months later. The Off/Cancel button on the keypad no longer works and I can't hang up the phone unless I put it in the cradle. The warranty only lasts a year.
I was very happy with the phone until the Off button stopped working. It did not interfere with my wireless network. The built-in speakerphone was a great feature and I will only buy phones that have speakerphones now.
Call me crazy, but I'm replacing it with another Motorola, the 5.8 GHz MD751. Staying with Motorola means I don't have to learn a new interface and I don't have to change my habits. Hopefully they made the keypad more durable.
Rating: Summary: Works For Me! Review: I came over here to buy a MD-41 handset to expand my MD-451 phone, and I was surprised when I read the reviews. I'm sorry to hear that some folks have had problems with their phones, but I'm not one of them - no complaints here. I don't buy, evaluate, and write reviews for phones. All I did was buy a phone and plug it in. I've had that phone for over two years now, and it works just fine. My buttons are OK, the battery life is fine, and I can hear who I am talking to. I still have the same battery in it when I bought it. I don't set the phone in the charging cradle until it dies. NiCad batteries need to be discharged before charging them up again, especially the cheap rechargeable NiCads that come in so many electronic products. I get a day or two of use before charging, depending on how many calls I make/get. I still have a corded phone for backup (still works when the power goes out).
Well, I hope my buttons continue to hold up.... I'm off to buy an extra handset. Good luck.

Rating: Summary: WORST PHONE EVER Review: I can't even begin to explain all of the issues with this phone. Battery life is less than one hour, the base no longer works afer 3 weeks, the keypad no longer works. What more can I say? Why is it that Motorola would have the gall to put this crap on the market. I feel so taken advantage of and will NEVER buy anything associated with Motorola again!
Rating: Summary: This phone failed Review: I had this phone for about 6 weeks and the base failed. So frustrating for a $$$ phone! We could not make calls and it caused our other phones not to work until we identified the problem. On top of this they made me pay for shipping .... And THEN the new phone had the same problem about six weeks later. DO NOT buy this phone. Shame on MOtorola for sending out this faulty product. It was obvious the rep knew there was big problems with this phone.
Rating: Summary: Battery Issue Review: I have had this phone for 6 weeks and will be returning it today. The additional handset suddenly stopped showing the caller i.d. The only solution from Motorola is to exchange it. The phones also have a very short battery life. I have had the phone clipped to my belt for 3 hours and have spoken on it for only 10 minutes and it is already down to 1 bar out of a possible 3.The range and the clarity of the calls are good although I have had to turn the volume up to high in order to hear most callers.
Rating: Summary: Battery Life Review: I just purchased this phone, and realized I had not checked out the battery life for talk time. I was surprised that I was unable to find any reference to this on Motorola's web site or any other site I checked (note: I did not check the most obvious place, the manual). I called Motorola's support number, and found out the battery life for talk time is 6 hours. I plan to put this to the test this weekend (28-May-04) to see if the battery life does hold up to 6 hours. I will repost this message with the results on 31-May-04.
Rating: Summary: ...what a piece of junk! Review: I must agree that the battery life on this phone, even new out of the box, is awful. After just a couple of short calls, the meter runs down to nearly zero. And - as another person stated - it didn't feel comfortable on my ear either. The sound is weak and tinny. Frequently it was also unable to 'find' the base, cutting phone calls short. I really like my Motorola cell phone, but this thing is horrible, After about 8 months of frustrated use, I literally unplugged it and tossed it in the garbage!
Rating: Summary: High quality phone Review: I noticed that there are several bad reviews for this phone, so I thought I'd put in my two cents. This is the best phone I've ever owned. The build quality is exceptional. The handset feels very solid, and the rubber grip makes it comfortable to hold for an extended period. The earpiece also sits just right against my ear. The speakerphone built into the handset works way better than I could have ever imagined, and is great when navigating automated menus, as you can keep your eyes glued to the keypad without missing any instructions. The sound quality is excellent, especially when using it as a speakerphone. I often switch between normal and speakerphone, and the person on the other end never notices. Battery life hasn't been a problem for me. The handset sits in various places around the house during the day, and is returned to the charger every night. The ring tones are pleasing, and the lighted buttons and display are easy to see in the dark. I use this phone both inside and outside, and I've never once heard any static. I was so impressed with this unit, that when my wife mentioned we may need to add another phone, I immediately purchased an expansion handset (you can use up to 4 handsets). Now the two handsets work like intercomms as well. Neat!
Rating: Summary: Battery Life Review: I wrote a review on May 24, 2004 titled Battery Life; and stated I would write an update review on 31-MAY-04. Sadly I was not able to write a review on that day, but since I wrote my first review I used the newly bought phone that weekend for three nights in a row for 6 hours each night. Since that time I have used the phone twice for 6 hours each time. I am not sure what the problem is with the other reviewers that have commented on the battery life of this phone, but it works great for me. The only thing I can think of is they did not allow the battery on the phone sufficent time to charge. The instructions state 12 hours, but I let mine charge for 24 hours before I plugged it in for the first time.
