Summary: Awful
Review: This phone is simply not worth the money...terrible reception

Summary: Don't do it
Review: This phone seemed to eat batteries for lunch. Then I discovered the charger wasn't always working. It is barely a year old and I have to wiggle the phone in the cradle to get the battery to charge. Now with a brand new battery the outgoing sound has suddenly stopped working. I can hear fine I just can't say anything. It would be a great gift to give that husband who never listens!

Summary: Not as good as we hoped
Review: This phone was recommended by Consumer Reports, and that's why we bought it. However, we're disappointed and plan to return it. The answerer is great. That much I will say, but the reception is terrible. Just walking around in the house we hear static and clicking noises. We also have had trouble with the Caller ID. It doesn't display all of the calls, and it doesn't display them in chronological order, which can be confusing. So, we're returning it and going to try something else.

Summary: Not Recommended
Review: To Qoute another reviewer - this phone reminds me of one of the first cordless phones I owned when they first came out.
- walking about 25 feet away from base caused lots of static, clicking and popping; switching channnels or relocating base does not change this
- poor sound quality on the answering machine playback, callers sounded like they were underwater, although maybe they were, its been raining alot here lately

- There may be some good features to this phone, but I'm not keeping it long enough to find out

Summary: Works well, nice features
Review: We are satisfied. The sound quality is very good, although the answering machine is a bit muffled and annoying in that it does not play new messages first. The layout of the buttons on the base is not intuitive (the message delete button, etc.) Sound reception is excellent in our small apartment. No interference from the microwave or from other NYC neighbors. The phone is cool looking with a red light on the antenna (when in use). One thing I don't like is that the handset has a round bottom and will not stand vertically upright on its own, so if you want to put it down somewhere, it will be on its back (needs more room). The charge seems to last a long time. We do not use the Caller ID function.

Summary: Very happy, but...
Review: We bought this phone a few weeks ago, and I wanted to try it out a bit before writing a review. I should mention that the major reason we bought it was because Consumer Reports called it the best value in 2.4Ghz phones. I'm quite pleased with every aspect of the phone, especially the answering system, the "look and feel," and the quality of the features (ex. handset volume is adjustable to 5 levels, crystal clear sound on answering system greeting and messages, caller ID is advanced while also being simple to use). Of course, the most important issue with a cordless phone is reception, and on this, the GE phone comes up a bit short. It's true that if you stay near the base, you get great sound. But if you wander a bit, you begin to hear the occasional click and hiss. One more thing, the 2.4 GHz is almost *too* strong. It sometimes picks up conversations coming from other cordless phones in the area. We live in a large apt. building, so it happens more than it would if you're living in a single family. A quick channel change usually clears up that problem, but it's still annoying when it happens. Despite these minor issues, the phone is a keeper.

Summary: Worthless! Avoid this phone.
Review: We have had this phone for more than a year and a half now. Purchased new out of the box, the battery cover was poorly fitted, and constantly falls off. Worst, the blasted "Digital Messaging System" drops our callers in the middle of their messages. Can you imagine getting a message from your mother about your dad's chemotherapy that goes like this: "Dad went into chemo today. The doctors said that the cancer wa--"? Well, my wife had to go through that, thanks to this shoddy phone.

Recorded outgoing messages are also scratchy and poor. The only message that has decent clarity is the computer-recorded "Please leave a message." This may be a shock to GE, but some people like to record a clear, personalized outgoing message on their phones!

Technical support was nonexistent. Called GE several times and got confused silence. We were reluctant to get rid of this phone because of its horrific price (purchased from Sears at $120 in August of 2002), but for Christmas, my wife is getting a brand new Phonemate PMP-3985SL.

Summary: Love it!!
Review: We have the the model without the answering machine, and I swear we can walk a block and a half down the street and have no static.

Summary: returning this phone
Review: we purchased this phone after reading reviews from consumer reports. it stinks, i hate it, i'm returning it. the phone ring will walk on every last nerve you have. the voice quality stinks as well, i have to hold the phone away from me to hear the other person it is so loud, and it sounds like i'm yelling into the phone. we cannot figure out how to lower it. and the handset is extremely uncomfortable to hold either with your hand or your shoulder. consumer reports dropped the ball on this phone. it's quick pick criteria list should include more every day considerations. do NOT buy.

Summary: Don't waste your money
Review: We received this phone as a Christmas gift last year from my parents. I felt compelled to use it because it was an expensive gift. However, I can no longer take it. This phone has been horrible; half the time when you make a call it never goes through even with several attempts. The display is small and if you have caller ID, the number and name of the person calling does not register (I have an AT&T cordless phone that does register the number). One other thing to consider is...the handset is not a speaker phone (very disappointing). I have been very happy with our AT&T phone; the phone still works and has been dropped from our deck onto our patio, and has been through years of abuse.
