Summary: yes, I am buying the same phone, again
Review: GE's 29917 cordless headset phone is terrific. The sound is clear, it has good range, and is perfectly comfortable. If it has one drawback, it is that the hinge that attaches the clip to the battery pack is pretty flimsy and it just wont hold on to your belt. I have found wearing it in a shirt pocket works best. This is the best answer to "hands free" telephone use that I have found, and though they only last about a year I haven't found a better phone at twice the price. I am now ordering phone number three.

Summary: I am *also* buying the same phone again!
Review: Hands down, this is the best cordless headset telephone I have used. I work from home and am on the phone constantly. Like others have mentioned, the sound has started cutting out on my latest phone after about 9 months. I am shopping for my third phone, both my previous phones have "died" the same way with the sound cutting out. Of course, because the belt loop does not hold (I put mine in my pocket) I have dropped the phone many times and reeled it in with the cord. I'm sure this has contributed to the short life spans of both of my phones!

I have noticed that the price has been coming down on these a bit lately, yea! Very comfortable headset, excellent sound quality. Bell has recently come out with a similiar model, the headset looks almost exactly the same, but I have not tried it. I'm sticking with my GE.

Summary: Well Worth it for the Price...........
Review: I bought this phone for two reasons:
1. My impending deafness and I couldn't hear very well on my regular phone.
2. For business purposes. I'm on the phone alot and the crooked neck wasn't working very well for me anymore....basically being on the computer and talking on the phone at the same time.
I can't say enough good about this phone. Now if I answer my regular phone and I'm on it for more than 5 minutes I switch phones. I'm free to walk around, I'm free to be on the computer, I'm free to go check the mail. It's small and lite enough that it will fit in a pocket or clip to a waistband without weighing one down. It's been a life saver.
I guess my only wish is that it came with Caller Id so I wouldn't have had to buy a separate AT&T Caller Id box. All in all given the price....It's well worth it!!!

Summary: What happens after 2 years?
Review: I have had this phone for about 2 years and it works great. The sound is reasonable and the volume control is a plus, along with the mute button.

I didn't like the little arm that supported the headset; it just made the hanging wire look bad. Then there is the extra battery - GREAT idea. Just that the spare is "dead" now. Started dying after about 6 months.

The cushion earpiece is sloooooowly disintegrating and cannot be replaced because everything is just "fixed". It would have been good if some components were detachable and could be replaced.

All in all, a great phone for the price. Now I just need to contemplate purchasing a new battery or another phone.

Summary: What happens after 2 years?
Review: I have this phone, and have used it for conference calls and love the phone, but it has issues....

The positive items:
1. MUTE BUTTON!
2. Memory functions, so I can use it for my calling card for work.
3. The battery lasts a long time, and you get a spare with the phone.

The negative items:
1. I didn't have 'great' luck with interference with the phone when at a distance. I would guess that 75 feet is it's distance, max.
2. The belt clip broke early. I was warned of this from others.
3. The writing on the buttons wore off rather easy. The volume buttons and the mute button on my phone are blank now.
4. The cord to the headset has frayed, and now my headset is useless!! It isn't replaceable, and will have to be trashed. A perfectly good phone, but one little wire is broke, and now the whole phone is garbage.
5. The head clip broke, and had to be taped together within a month of it's purchase.

Overall I love the phone, but won't buy one again... I can get a better phone for less cost, that is built better....

Summary: great while it still works
Review: I loved this phone! It was very convenient to use with one exception - the on/off button protrudes too much and I often cut people off by bumping it lightly as I did things around the house. Despite this, I was thrilled with the phone. Then, after about one year, it started cutting people off for no apparent reason - the wire inside the plastic insulation was not substantial enough. There is no way to replace just the wire. I just threw the phone away and I will not buy this model again.

Summary: Not my idea of a cordless phone
Review: I purchased this item and had it in my home for a few weeks and after it had been dropped a few times the wire shorted out on the speaker part of the headset. Unfortunatly I cannot replace just the headset part, seems I would have to purchase a whole new phone. I also have attempted to go to the GE homepage and could not find this item for replacement parts.

Summary: Maybe even 4.5 stars ....
Review: I really like this phone. A friend of mine got a couple, and the first time I tried it I had to rush out and buy one for myself. It comes with an extra battery that charges while the unit is out of the cradle, which is very convenient. Another nice touch is the unit's clip on the back - positioned at the bottom so when it's clipped to your pocket the buttons aren't upside-down - so you don't have to unclip it to operate! All the buttons, for that matter, are well-placed. If GE could do just ONE thing that would make this phone a full 5 stars for me (and I'd buy some more of them then!), it would be to add a Caller ID display in the space above the "Phone" On/Off button. Oh - that's the GE 26970GE2!
