Summary: An excellent clear phone. Kudos Panasonic!!!
Review: After 4 yrs of use, my old Lucent analog started crackling and needed replacing. I initially went to a couple of electronics stores. I received some useful advice from the sales help and some disgruntled customers returning bad cordless phones. Basically the advice was to stay away from V-tech and IBM.
I decided to go to Target, because I could experiment and easily return merchandise that I did not like. I started with a real cheap Memorex, which was awful and noisy. Next, I tried a Northwestern Bell 2.4GHZ. It was noisy, you could not hear clearly, and some of the buttons crapped out. Frustrated, and with epinions info under my belt, I decided to go with either a Uniden or a Panasonic. This Panasonic model comes in assorted colors, has a couple of frills(but not too many) and felt comfortable in hand. I brought it home and tried it. It is as clear as a quality corded phone. Also, it has caller ID and you can easily program (like a cell phone) 50 numbers into its memory. Ok, so I spent more than fifty bucks, but its worth it for reliability, simplicity and clarity! And unlike the expensive $130 2.4GHZ DSS phones, you can plug into an answering machine.

Summary: I finally found an excellent phone for a great price
Review: After trying a BUNCH of phones, inlcuding several 2.4GHz DSS models from Panasonic, Sony, Uniden, etc, I was about ready to give up when I came across the 1703B on sale for a price I couldn't pass up. This phone has clear reception, good volume and range, nice features, a comfortable handset, good battery life, and an extremely useful speakerphone integrated into the back of the handset. The speakerphone's duplex sound quality is surprisingly good and has come in handy many times, particularly when on hold for a period of time or for 3-way hands-free conversations between my roommate, her son and myself.

My only real compliant? Everything on the handset is black, including all buttons and keys except for a large gray central navigation/volume button, and a small orange speakerphone button. So dialing or locating some buttons in a darkened room can be a real challenge. The printing on the buttons is bright and legible in normal lighting, but doesn't help much in darker conditions. I'd prefer to have either a lighted keypad or at least lighter, more contrasting keypad and on/off buttons. But considering the overall performance and price, I can deal with it. If you're looking for a lighted keypad and willing to pay $20-$30 more, the 1703 series comes in 3 other colors: green, blue, and pearl white, all of which have lighted keypads.

Summary: Cool features, but don't go far!!!
Review: Allows you to use it hands free. Very cool feature bc the speak phone is actually on the handset. But, I have noticed as others have that it makes clicking sounds all the time. Sounds like it is auto-switching channels. I constantly switch phone now and use primarily as a portable caller ID device. I would chose a different phone if you really plan on relying on your next cordless.

Summary: Pick a channel already!
Review: Bought this phone from a local store and used for two months. I finally returned it this past weekend.

This phone looks great on paper. However, it functions terribly. The phone seems to constantly search for a clear channel which causes lots of clicking noises and audio drop-out. It is very similar to a digital cellular phone.

Bottom line is that the performance of this phone was intolerable. If I can't use it, I can't give it any more than 1 star.

Our phone before this was a Sony (SPSS9101, I believe -- silver 900 MHz spread spectrum with caller ID, no answering machine). It lasted about 7 months until it failed. Sent it back for repair under warranty. Lasted another 2 months until it failed. Sent it back and received a brand new phone. It lasted about 9 months until it failed. I love Sony TVs and receivers, but I'll never buy another phone.

So, Sony is out. Panasonic is out. I bought a Uniden and we'll see how that phone works.

Summary: Solid phone
Review: Clear sound and great range. Beats any 2.4G phone for clarity. A bit complex to program but it's do-able.

Summary: Poor battery!!
Review: I am really disappointed to see how long the battery lasts on this phone. I had a panasonic cordless phone before (don't remember which model) and was very impressed with the battery life. That was the main reason I bought this one but it last for only 1 day in standby mode.

Summary: Good Phone
Review: I am sorry this is not a review. I have to find a class 2 power supply for this phone as the dog chewed up the other one, as funny as that sounds, it did happen. The model # PQLV2 AC Adaptor. I am sorry I am contacting you this way, but you don't have a site where I can send my question.

Summary: neither phone charges correctly
Review: I bought two of these based on reviews of other panasonics. They do not apply, neither phone charges correctly and they are both going back! I will buy another panasonic but not these.
