Rating: Summary: A good buy. Review: A good buy with a good discount from Amazon, this phone works great up to 1000 feet from my house. The DSS feature provides great security from others listening in on your call. The two lines work well together with no bleed over, a great feature when you want to use the second phone line to place a call normally used for computer online use. One minor hassle is because of the two lines, you have to push two buttons to review the caller ID incoming calls, in order to select which phone line the calls came in from. I have used this phone for 11 months now, and have replaced the battery only once. A great feature is the base has an extra charging compartment so when the battery needs recharging, all you need to do is switch out the batteries and keep on trucking. Also if you have a battery in the base, the phones keeps on working when the power goes out- (a good feature for you California folks). I also use the jack on the handset to use a headset when at the computer waiting for tech, or insurance help. Of course, the base also can be used as a speakerphone when waiting on hold. All in all, this is a great phone.
Rating: Summary: Background hum is a problem Review: A good deal, but the background hum listed in the 'Cons' is certainly that. Since I planned to use this phone as my primary, I am returning it and will have to find some other product. This is too bad, as my other Uniden products have always been top notch.I am surprised they did not withdraw this phone from the market.
Rating: Summary: Best 2 line cordless phone I've found Review: After having used six different cordless 2 line phones, I finally found one that deserves a top rating. Excellent sound clarity, useful features, and none of the classic cordless annoyances that typically bug you. Buy an extra battery and you can uyse this phone in a power outage, as the base will run off the spare battery. With a keypad and speaker phone on the base, you can even operate when you've left the handset in the other room. The handset includes all the top end features that I would want: caller id, caller-id with call waiting, speed dialing, redial (yep, some cordless phone forget that feature), and conmference calling where you can connect line 1 and line 2 together in a single call. A very nice feature is that the caller-id lists are kept seperately, one for line 1 and another for line 2. In my household my wife gets calls on line 1 and I get calls on line 2; this way I do not have to scroll through her calls to see who called me. Finally, a word on clarity. No drops outs, only very occasional interference from other devices (my only problem is when I put the phone down on top of the laptop computer it makes the laptop hum!), and very long range, clear connections (well beyond 500 feet). If you want a full feature 2 line cordless phone, this is it. If you don't need all the feartures, then find one with a smaller base unit, as this one is pretty big. Me, I'm more than satisfied. Oh yeah, you can order a spare battery at the uniden web site for $6!
Rating: Summary: Poor Battery Life Review: After reviewing Consumer Reports I decided to purchase the EXS 9960 and the EXS 9966...big mistake. Though the range and sound quality have been satisfactory, the battery life is poor at best. What is so disappointing is that I followed the instructions word for word. In addition I purchased additional batteries for each phone under the assumption that I would run the phone/battery down then have a fresh, recharged battery waiting in the wings. I purchased the phones less than a year ago and they both fail to get me through more than 30 minutes of talk time.
Rating: Summary: Lousy battery life...I mean LOUSY!!! Review: DON'T BUY THIS PHONE!! Ignore all the other review claims about this phone providing decent battery life...they're absolutely not true! I purchased this phone about a year ago or so and initially the battery life was acceptable, and I could talk for over an hour with no problems. About 6 months ago the battery life plummeted. The reason is because the batteries are crummy nickel cadmiums that suffer from memory effect. Now I have less than 15 to 20 minutes of talk time. All the other features are well-done but avoid this phone unless you want to have every other call interrupted with a failing battery.

Rating: Summary: Positives and Negatives Review: Here are the positives: Great reception (I can talk in parts of my house that my other portable phone was unable to reach), no buzzing background noise that others complained about (I guess this really depends on where you live). Here are the negatives: Battery doesn't last very long before it needs re-charging, the phone is a bit bulky, and when I balance the phone between my face and my shoulder (when I'm trying to talk and do something with both hands which is often), I frequently disconnect the call because the hang-up button is placed right at my cheekbone....annoying. Other than that I am keeping the phone. It was difficult to find a cordless phone that could handle 2 lines and had NO ANSWERING MACHINE!
Rating: Summary: After years of hating cordless phones, I'm happy Review: I bought this phone because of it's range and sound quality. I've used a number of other cordless phones and been very disappointed. I've had my Uniden 9966 about 3 months, and so far the only thing I can complain about is the unwieldy way you have to enter names into the memories. But that's a one-time annoyance. The sound quality is as clear as a bell. While some people have complained about humming, so far, I haven't heard it. I picked up a cheap AT&T headset, and my hands are free, and no one complains about how I sound. The range has been excellent - I can use the phone up to two blocks from home and the sound quality remains excellent. All around the house, even to the far edge of the back-yard, or over at neighbor's houses, just isn't a challenge to this phone. The batteries consistently give me 4 hours of talk time. Since I'm on the phone a lot, this means I charge the batteries every night. I'd love to get more battery life, but I really can't complain about it.
Rating: Summary: I hated it Review: I found it hard to use and ended up buying a different phone.
