Summary: Nostalgic for the Older Model
Review: I just ordered this unit, with which GE has replaced the older model. The older model (GE 2-9917) was clearly a "cult favorite" among many people, including me. (Obviously not a popular favorite -- considering how quickly it disappeared from the market.) The older unit was small, lightweight, and above all, had the best sound quality of any portable I've ever known. I gave several as gifts. I'll update this review when I've tried the new one for a while.As noted by other reviewers here, the old ones eventually broke when the cord connecting the headset to the phone failed internally. (Didn't take much for this to happen.) Nothing to be done -- they were permanently attached. Secondly, and undereported here, I think, the most significant design flaw was the clip -- a perfect example of industrial "overdesign" -- it hinged when it should have been fixed. No clothing ever designed worked with the hinged clip -- while a fixed clip would have clipped on just about anything. Users of the older model learned to either carry the phone around with them, or put in a pocket, which often resulted in pressing the buttons unintentionally. Sounds like the new one also has the hinged clip, but we'll see. David in Telluride, CO P.S. Do you think anyone at GE ever reads this stuff?

Summary: I Love This Phone
Review: I love this phone, a very good friend gave this to me as a Christmas present. I have a computer repair shop and having hands free while fixing computers is a MUST!. My life is saved with this phone. Not more neck cramps, no more dropping the receiver, no more putting down the receiver to look up information. It is comfortable to wear, very lightweight... I almost forget I'm wearing it. I walk around my shop and yards away with excellent reception. My friend is now buying one for himself. Thank you

Summary: You can talk forever
Review: I love this phone. It's lightweight and the battery goes on and on and on before having to recharge. The caller ID is a bonus and you can't beat the price. I didn't think I would like a traditional headset but after wearing the headset a few times it's starting to shape to my head; so much better than the ear piece headsets. Everyone I've talked to thinks I'm on a regular phone since the reception is so clear. The clip has fallen off a few times so I just stick it in my pocket since it's so small. I'm ordering one for my sister-in-law who spends more time on the phone than anyone I've ever met.

Summary: GE phone
Review: I loved the older model, without the caller ID feature. The only problem I had after 3 years of use (had an extra battery)is the mouth peice over the years began to break away from the headset and you couldn't hear very well at times. You might say the family wore it out! Loved the design, great to be hands free while talking and walking in the house as well as outside the house in the yard! The reception was great! I am on the way to buy the new model and put it to the test!

Review: I too had the older version GE phone which I loved. This phone is great but missing the mute button which I found very helpful. Any tips or numbers I could push to put the phone in mute mode, which I found very important for conference calls. If so my e mail address is .....

Summary: Phoey! The old model was SO much better
Review: I was thrilled to see the new model and bought it right away. I've got the old model (2-9917A) and -LOVE- it for its superior clarity, talk time, and comfort. So, I was expecting the new version to be at least as good as the old one. - NO MUTE BUTTON!! NO WAY! I spend a LOT of time on MUTE when I'm on conference calls. Although this really bothered me, I have a Plantronics M175 headset with inline mute for my cell so I thought it might be ok.
- Sound quality like through a tube of toilet paper.
Although on the highest volume setting you can hear it ok, it still doesn't sound like you when you have a real phone pressed up against your ear (the old model did).
- Dialing EXTREMELY loud. If you dial with the headset on.. you'll soon go deaf.
- Voice quality just flat out miserable. While on the new model, folks were telling me to put my mouth up to the mic. It was.
- Headset quality poor? Well, I thought the sound and the voice quality problems were due to the headset, so I plugged in my mighty M175 Plantronics headset (which I highly recommend) and the phone still had all the same problems. The adjustments afforded by the the M175 could not compensate for the poor quality of the phone. I'm going to... buy a new version of their older model. I recommend you do the same. I've been through SO MANY headset phones. The only good one I've ever had is the GE 2-9917A. I've swithced back to it but need a new one because of the inherent problem with them.. the cord breaks eventually.

Summary: Decent, but lost features of the old model
Review: I'll echo what most other people have already said. This is still a decent phone but it's far inferior to the old model. No mute, no second battery. If the old one used a jack instead of being fixed to the unit I'd still be using at least one since I ended up buying two!

Summary: Prefer the old headset
Review: My new GE headset is still charging for the first time but the first thing I found right away is I don't like the headset on the new model. My old model is the 2-9918A. It has a fantastic headset. The new headset feels too squirmy with swiveling joints and the gooseneck mic is really floppy. I only put it on when I receive a call and I know I'll be adjusting it each time.
Can anyone recommend a replacement mic that works like the old one? (ie. No swivel and firm gooseneck that stays in place when you put it down on the table.)

Summary: No mute == almost worthless
Review: My old GE cordless headset phone is on its last legs, so I went over to Best Buy to get this one as a replacement. I hooked it up, charged it up, stored my frequently-used numbers and was all ready to enjoy the phone. . . until I noticed that there's no mute button. I looked through the documentation then looked again, searched the web and called "customer service" (warning: if you want to talk to a live person, you will have to make a toll call). No luck: no mute feature. Who was the Einstein who designed this phone with no mute button? I'm a telecommuter who sits in conference calls for too many hours a week, and without a mute button this phone is useless to me. I'm taking it back immediately.

Summary: poor reliability
Review: purchased this phone and the only thing I use any longer is the headset. The phone beeps (actually shreiks) intermittently. No interference, no rhyme or reason. Called support and after the typical maze of routing, they suggested I buy another battery which cost more than the phone, yet both were <90 days old. Garbage product with a GE label, made and suppoorted (not) by some unheard of firm.
