Description:
The huge buttons on AT&T's big button caller ID/call waiting telephone help prevent misdialing and make a playful decorating statement. With additional features, such as caller ID, you always know who's calling you. Setting up most of the 953's features was easy--we just plugged in the AC adapter and the phone cord. Programming the memory dialing and setting the caller ID home and local area codes was intuitive and did not require us to consult the manual. When we first plugged in the phone, the device's LCD screen read, "12:00 a.m. January 1." This seemed to be a clock, as it displayed the hours and minutes, moving from 12:00 to 12:01, and so on. However, it was in fact an initial time/date stamp--a feature that records the time and date of a call along with the caller's name and phone number. Although the information was updated with incoming calls, we found the display confusing at first and wished that the 953 allowed us to reset this stamp manually, as other AT&T products do. In all other areas, setup went without a hitch. In our tests, the phone sounded clear, and the backlight made the LCD screen easy to read. Pros:
