Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!
Review: I bought this phone because of it's sleek look, and it's features. Absolutely LOVE the phone directory and caller ID setup! Unfortunately, those are the only good things about it. After I got it home, charged up and ready to go, this phones bad points really shone through. When talking into it, the echo of your own voice is the worst of any phone I have ever used. Almost loud enough to block out the person you're talking to. The ringer times option was another disappointment. You can choose between 2 or 5 rings, or the Toll Saver. However, if you set it on 5 or Toll Saver, the line disconnects you before the answering machine picks up, and if you place it on 2 rings, the phone rings once before answering! So even if your sitting next to the phone, you still have to contend with the answering machine. Finally, the placement of the OFF button was poorly laid out, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. While having a conversation with a friend, I hung up on them 3 TIMES! This phone went back to the store after about a week. I'll wait till Sony irons out the bugs before buying another phone from them.

Summary: This is the worst phone ever!
Review: I bought this phone November, 2001. About a week after purchasing it, the number 1 button stopped working. I exchanged the phone for a new one. With the replacement phone, everything worked for a while. Now, I am looking for a new phone since the number 1 and 2 buttons do not work. Most of the phone numbers for people I call regularly are stored in memory so I do not frequently use the number pad for dialing. This phone was the biggest waste of money. Do not purchase it!

Summary: Very very good phone
Review: I have this phone with two additionial handsets, they all work great with no static. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because if you pick it up off the base to read the caller-id you have taken it off the hook and have no option but to talk or hang up on who ever it is.

Summary: Been using it for 7 months and LOVE it
Review: I noticed a few reviewers having problem with their phones but not mine. I have one additional handset too and I just love this phone and so do many of my friends who visit us. The phone by default automatically connects when you pick up from base unit but you can change the setup not to do that.

The voices are clear and very loud. The finishing and style of this product are exceptional. I think Sony discontinued this model and I don't see any more phones made by them in most stores. Wondering if they decided to quit making phones. I suggest grad one of this model or SPPS2730 with base unit keypad before they are all gone.

Summary: I will never buy a sony phone again!
Review: I was attracted to this phone by the aesthetics and the features it offered...little did I know that shortly after I bought it the #3 button would stop working. The worst part is that Sony customer service was pathetic. Their solution was to send the phone back which would leave me "phoneless" for 2.5 weeks. Or so they hoped as the customer service rep told me - no guarantee it wouldn't take longer than that. When I asked for a supervisor of the customer service manager I was told that "no one else would want to bother talking to me about this problem". Last phone/product I ever buy from them. Whatever happened to the customer is always right?

Summary: Unreliable
Review: Phone died after two days of operation. Handset would not connect with base. Also, handsets get VERY HOT after being on the charger for a few hours. Returned.

A sad but little known fact is that apparent diversity of consumer product offerings is often just branding of a relatively small number of real choices. Multi-handset 2.4 GHz cordless phones are no exception. If you look closely, you'll see that most of the current offerings: have identical (or nearly identical) feature sets; are based on FHSS (frequency hopping spread spectrum, also known as FH DSS, or frequency hopping digital spread spectrum); and are built in China. These products (e.g., Panasonic KX-TG1050N/KX-TG1000N/KX-TGA100N) are pretty much the same.

The Sony line of multi-handset 2.4 GHz cordless phones (SPP-A2780/SPP-A2770/SPP-A2730/SPP-A2720/SPP-H273) is a notable exception: significantly different feature set, based on DSSS (direct sequence spread spectrum), and built in Taiwan. DSSS, a more costly and sophisticated technology than FHSS, provides greater range and resistance to interference, particularly indoors. As a result, these Sony phones provide remarkably clear sound.

The Sony line also abounds with thoughtful design touches that makes it a joy to use. The Jog Dial makes it a breeze to access the phone book, call lists, and menu items. The handset has a solid feel, is comfortable to use, and will stand up on any horizontal surface thanks to a flat base. Even at the default mid-quality setting (15 minutes recording time), the digital answering machine produces very good sound quality. And of the course the styling is up to usual high Sony standards.

SUMMARY: This is the one to buy! Shines in all areas!

Summary: Nice look, nice problems.
Review: This phone is good. But what's the point of having a phone where the #1 button stops working. The first phone I sent it back for an exchange and guess what happens? The new phone's #1 button just messed up again. It hasn't even been 2 months. Sony needs to fix this problem.

Summary: Poor quality, bad investment
Review: We bought this phone and expanded it to 3 cordless handsets. In the second year of ownership, the #1 keypad quit working on every one of the handsets. Great craftsmanship. If you contact Sony, they will not stand behind the product and act as though this is not a quality issue affecting every handset produced for this phone. Buy any other brand!
