Summary: Good Price and Good phone...
Review: ...OK, I am talking about Siemens 242 2.4 GHz Black Cordless Phone with Caller ID by Siemens, which I bought...

First, the sound quality is superior and you can adjust the listen volume while you talk...

Second, the caller id is working good and very easy to call back the number by pressing "talk" with the number displaying.

Third, the memory can store up to 22 digits of number which is very useful for people using those dial around like 1010345, 1010220....

Fourth, it combines the phone cord and power cord. You just need to plug in with a RJ-45 type head, no messy desktop.

Fifth, the menu is very easy to navigate, just like a hand phone. I can use it without the manual.

The phone looks cool...but now I think it is a very good phone with [a good] price. I have been using Panasonic for a long while, now it is time to change.

Summary: This phone eats batteries
Review: Batteries die after a extremely short life. Customer service says that a Nickle Metal Hydride battery should be used instead. Well, if that was the case, why didn't they supply one with the phone? The handset gets very warm when charging unless placed face-down on the base. When the battery dies, the handset/base get very hot and might pose a fire hazard; they should all be recalled and replaced with a better design.

Summary: She was so beautiful, until I heard her speak!
Review: I actually like this phone and think that it's very well designed. I was hoping to buy additional extensions without the need of hardwiring them to the wall.

The phone is a great piece of German design (I've owned nothing but German cars), not only aesthetically, but in it's ease to program.

I've returned this phone yesterday because . . . well, it didn't function correctly. Some conversations suffered from echo, while others had bad dropouts. The base station for the unit was in the correct location, away from any other electronic devices.

I've exchanged this for a Panasonic KXTG2560B (2.4GHz) and I hope this proves to be a better buy. I have to admit some reticence in my choice, because I think the Panasonic is pretty ugly, and is less intuitive to use and program. I hate to return merchandise so I'll give the Panasonic a chance (the batteries should be charged by the time I get home).

Summary: Total Ripoff!!
Review: I agree with mcrazi8 from Washington's review. I received a call on behalf of my long distance carrier promoting the model 242 2.4 ghz cordless phone. It was hard getting used to my own voice blasting in my ear as I talked as well as the discomfort of the hot battery which ran down very quickly. After about 2 months, my display looked like the dislpay on a calculator that had malfunctioned, with unreadable, and mutated number symbols which finally disappeared all-together. Now it will not hold a charge and I have the same problems attempting to find a replacement battery. 200+ $ later, I'm a very angry customer.

Summary: Skip this phone
Review: I bought this phone system for my office. What a hassel! It's like talking into a box, poor sound quality for the money. Panasonic and Sony systems are better, I've switched. Also, I had problems with second handset and needed replacement which was easy. The problem was short battery life, needed constant recharging. Features are nice but could be more user friendly instead of having to train people on how to use the extra features.

Summary: Defective
Review: I bought this product and thought it was great. The caller ID was nice, the reception was clear and I could walk nearly 100 yards from the base. The design and color were very contemporary looking in my office. The only problem is that the earpiece went out about 1 week after I bought it. In fact, it started fading in and out the 2nd day of use. Anyway, I returned it to Staples and got another. The same problem soon persisted again. I finally took it back for a brand I was familiar with (Plantronics) and the clerk said they have been getting alot of this brand back for the same problem. ALSO, I was talking with my brother a few days later who bought this phone for his business and also had the same problem with the earpiece going out. He had gotten 3 new ones. Anyway, this is probably a defective product and I would recommend not buying this particular one. I am turned off on the company and will not buy anything else of theirs ever again. I am in the process of writing to them to see if I can get some answers.

Summary: Wobbly buttons; does not work in a power outage
Review: I have had this phone for about 2 weeks now, and I just wanted to add my 2 cents to other users' reviews: 1) The sound quality is not as shabby as some reviewers' mentioned. 2) Simple choices like tone/pulse mode or ringer on/off are buried in the onscreen menu, whereas even very cheap phones tend to have buttons on the front or side for these 2 functions (its so much easier that way). Of course, some people would actually consider that to be an advantage, but I don't. 3) The buttons tend to wobble rather than go down smoothly on pressing; you will learn to press with the flat side of your fingers rather than with the fingertips (ladies, please note!) (if you have stubby fingers - no problemo!). 4) The base does not have a battery backup, so in case of power failure, this phone won't work. Make sure you have a phone in your home or office that you can use in a power outage. (Of course, if you are rich enough to have your own power source - no problemo!!)

Summary: Let Down
Review: I have to admit that I was very disappointed with the sound quality of the phone. I had a constant hum in the ear piece throughout every call. At times it even sounded scratchy. Even when standing next to the base with no other electrical devices on in the house, it was still the same. I also tried moving the base to different phone jacks and electrical outlets, but there was no improvement. I thought that I may have just received a lemon. I returned it for an even exchange of the same unit hoping for a better experience - I should have learned the first time. The second one was no better, in fact I think it may have been worse! In addition, the range on the phone was short, I couldn't even walk across the street to my mailbox without getting static. Distance was never a problem with my Sony 900mhz DSS. The Siemens phone offers many cool features and a sleek design, but I could not tolerate the noise and was forced to return it for a completely different manufacturer. I have checked with other members of my company that have purchased this and other models, many of them have similar complaints.

Summary: Good, but pricey
Review: I have two of these phones for 8 months now, and it works pretty well... they're sleek and look nice, but there are a few complaints... #1, it's expensive for what you get, but the fact that you can add phones to places which don't have phone jacks makes them worth it. My main complaint is that it doesn't allow things like "flashing." also, my only other complaint is the volume doesn't go up very high but overall, I'm very satisfied. I recommend getting a headset for the phone since it doesn't work with the one shoulder thing.
