Summary: Good Price and Good phone...
Review: ...OK, I am talking about Siemens 242 2.4 GHz Black Cordless Phone with Caller ID by Siemens, which I bought...First, the sound quality is superior and you can adjust the listen volume while you talk... Second, the caller id is working good and very easy to call back the number by pressing "talk" with the number displaying. Third, the memory can store up to 22 digits of number which is very useful for people using those dial around like 1010345, 1010220.... Fourth, it combines the phone cord and power cord. You just need to plug in with a RJ-45 type head, no messy desktop. Fifth, the menu is very easy to navigate, just like a hand phone. I can use it without the manual. The phone looks cool...but now I think it is a very good phone with [a good] price. I have been using Panasonic for a long while, now it is time to change.

Summary: This phone eats batteries
Review: Batteries die after a extremely short life. Customer service says that a Nickle Metal Hydride battery should be used instead. Well, if that was the case, why didn't they supply one with the phone? The handset gets very warm when charging unless placed face-down on the base. When the battery dies, the handset/base get very hot and might pose a fire hazard; they should all be recalled and replaced with a better design.

Summary: Total Ripoff!!
Review: I agree with mcrazi8 from Washington's review. I received a call on behalf of my long distance carrier promoting the model 242 2.4 ghz cordless phone. It was hard getting used to my own voice blasting in my ear as I talked as well as the discomfort of the hot battery which ran down very quickly. After about 2 months, my display looked like the dislpay on a calculator that had malfunctioned, with unreadable, and mutated number symbols which finally disappeared all-together. Now it will not hold a charge and I have the same problems attempting to find a replacement battery. 200+ $ later, I'm a very angry customer.

Summary: Skip this phone
Review: I bought this phone system for my office. What a hassel! It's like talking into a box, poor sound quality for the money. Panasonic and Sony systems are better, I've switched. Also, I had problems with second handset and needed replacement which was easy. The problem was short battery life, needed constant recharging. Features are nice but could be more user friendly instead of having to train people on how to use the extra features.

Summary: Wobbly buttons; does not work in a power outage
Review: I have had this phone for about 2 weeks now, and I just wanted to add my 2 cents to other users' reviews: 1) The sound quality is not as shabby as some reviewers' mentioned. 2) Simple choices like tone/pulse mode or ringer on/off are buried in the onscreen menu, whereas even very cheap phones tend to have buttons on the front or side for these 2 functions (its so much easier that way). Of course, some people would actually consider that to be an advantage, but I don't. 3) The buttons tend to wobble rather than go down smoothly on pressing; you will learn to press with the flat side of your fingers rather than with the fingertips (ladies, please note!) (if you have stubby fingers - no problemo!). 4) The base does not have a battery backup, so in case of power failure, this phone won't work. Make sure you have a phone in your home or office that you can use in a power outage. (Of course, if you are rich enough to have your own power source - no problemo!!)

Summary: Telephone Magic...
Review: I LOVE this phone. it's small, light, and cordless. the sound is great, and it has caller ID. when you pick up the phone from the cradle, it automatically turns on! the only problem is that a) it is too small to do the no-hands cradle thing(but I never do that so it's not a problem) and b) it's not lit up, so you can't see the buttons in the dark. i still love this phone and you should buy it!
Definitely worth the price!!

Summary: Expensive, but convenient
Review: I've owned several of these phones for over a year. They are expensive and include features that most people probably won't use. However, the fact that you can use several phones with one base station is very convenient, especially for those places where a phone jack is not readily available (the less cords the better). You can also use any brand of headphone jack with it. Performance. It works quite well as I have walked over to my mailbox which is about 50 yards without any appreciable decay in sound quality. The belt clip included works well. The only shortfall is that it uses spectrum technology, thus, it echoes. It sounds better than older generation spectrum technology. People on the phone have told me that is sounds like it echoes to them as well. If you don't need the convenience of not using a phone jack and you do not like the echoing sounds of some cordless phones, I wouldn't buy it.

Summary: Best cordless phone in 20 years !!! GET ONE NOW (6 Stars)
Review: My wife calls me a "Gadget Man"; yes, over the past 20 years I have owned at least 20 cordless phones: 46/49,900 MHz Analog and Digital, DSS,2.4G,Uniden,Panasonic,Sony,ATT,VTech etc. If it's new, I have to have it. This Siemens 242 is by far the very BEST. (In regard to all preceding negative reviews: they either pertain to the 2410/2415, are from people who forgot to subscribe to Caller-ID from their phone service, wear 10 pound earrings (or have cauliflower ears), did not read the manual, are not used to high-tech and therefore hold the phone upsidedown, need to replace their hearing-aid battery, in short,ignore those so-called "reviews" ).
The 242 now is a truly state-of-the-art:I first experienced Siemens' trendsetting 2.4Ghz technology over 3 years ago in Europe and it only has improved over time (DSS, design that now combines form with function).It handles superbly,is very ergonomic,has a very logical menu, supplies true "corded-sound" quality in both send/receive mode
and deserves to be on display next to the famous Movado Watch and B&O's HiFi stereo unit.
Granted: it will NOT win any "long-range" contests, but if you really need more than 100 yards, than either get a 2.4/900 MHz Panasonic, which base looks like a porcupine, or, better yet, ...get a cellular phone !!!

Summary: nice simple phone...but
Review: sound from the earpiece starts dimming/coming back, to the point where I can not hear the conversation! had staples replace, then had siemens replace, conclusion, a 100$ piece of junk! would never buy a siemens phone again.
