Description:

With 40-channel auto scan, 2.4 GHz transmission, and digital spreadspectrum technology, the IBM 2.4 GHz cordless phone offers superiorclarity, security, and range. In the world of cordless phones, higher is better when it comes to frequency.

Forget about the short-range, static-plagued cordless phones of the past.Basically a low-powered FM radio transmitter/receiver, cordless phonestoday use higher frequencies with shorter wavelengths so radio wavesencounter less interference. In 1998, the FCC opened up the FM range above2.4 MHz to cordless phones. This frequency is far above the rangeaccessible to most scanners, and gives phones like the IBM 2.4 GHz a rangeof up to 150 feet indoors.

In addition to 2.4 GHz power, the IBM 2.4 GHz offers digital spreadspectrum (DSS) technology for improved security and greater sound clarity.Based in part on a concept invented by 1940s screen actress Hedy Lamarr, spread spectrum transmission switches rapidly from frequency to frequencyat random. A DSS signal needs less power and encounters less interference.Because of the sophisticated encryption behind modern DSS technology, DSScordless phone calls are almost impossible to eavesdrop on.

The IBM 2.4 GHz automatically scans 40 channels for a clear signal. Thisphone also has useful features like a 20-number memory dial, similar to aspeed dial. The PC/fax data jack allows you to plug in your modem or faxwithout fussing with phone cords every time. The flash key makes it easy toaccess your phone company's call waiting service or transfer calls whenusing a business telephone network.

Call back a number you just dialed with the phone's redial button, usefulfor busy or unanswered numbers. The mute button switches off the handset'smicrophone so you can talk to someone else in the room without beingoverheard. The oversized page/locator button enables you to easily locateyour handset in the house or page someone in another room from the base.

The phone handset's batteries last for up to four hours of talk time and 12days on standby. The IBM 2.4 GHz phone's handset is reversible, meaning youcan charge it face-up on the base.
