Summary: Feature-packed, high-performance phone, A+++!
Review: As an existing owner of a Sanyo CLT-937A (same as the 957A except no speakerphone or dialpad on the base) and Sanyo CLT-957 (same as 957A except half the battery life--go figure), I purchased this phone with confidence. I did my homework before deciding to purchase my first Sanyo phone, and I now understand why Sanyo is a top rated cordless phone manufacturer.

First, the cons:

1. Lack of a headset jack. Not a big deal, in my opinion, since the handset speakerphone allows you to talk handsfree.

2. No built-in caller ID. Not important to me since I don't subscribe to the service.

3. The large size of the handset. The contoured shape of the handset makes it difficult to cradle against my shoulder (especially with the belt clip on). However, the handset is comfortable to hold against the ear.

4. Styling not sleek as some modern cordless phones(subjective). To me, performance and security is more important than styling, and Sanyo excels in those areas.

Now, the pros (the features that differentiate Sanyo from the average 900MHz cordless phone):

1. Top-notch performance. The speakerphones on the base and handset work great, and the range is unbeatable. There is a barely noticeable echo using the normal handset(not the speakerphone), but this is typical of most DSS phones. According to an article I read, it is an artifact of the spread spectrum technology. Clarity is excellent; no one has yet been able to tell that I'm not on a corded phone.

2. True digital security. Unlike analog phones and the new Panasonic 2.4GHz Gigarange phones, Sanyo DSS phones feature true digital operation. It would be easier for an eavesdropper to tap your phone line than to try to snoop on your conversation with a radio scanner. The digital spread spectrum operation also eliminates interference from other signal generating devices--I have had all of my Sanyo phones on at the same time and experienced absolutly no interference whatsoever.

3. Convenient speakerphone built into the handset. I can't rave enough about this cool feature! No headset to fuss with, all I have to do is push the speaker button and set down the handset for instant handsfree communication. It's great for sharing conversations with other people in the household too.

4. Battery power backup. With most cordless phones, you're out of luck if the power goes out. Sanyo has thoughtfully included AC power failure protection(using 3 AA's), because chances are, those are the times you need a phone the most.

5. Large, backlit dialpad on the handset.

6. Built-in keypad/speakerphone and intercom in the base. Very handy if you need to make a phone call and the handset isn't nearby.

I apologize if I'm starting to sound like a commercial for Sanyo, but I am so pleased with this phone that I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a cordless phone.

Summary: Any better phones ????
Review: Extremely secure. Extremly high clarity with the speakerphone. At work we actually used this phone and got equal speaker phone voice quality on both ends. The range was also great. I tested it to about 1/4 mile before it started to break up.

Summary: It's like a new member of my family...
Review: I tried to be critical of this phone, but I really can't find anything bad to say about it at all. I purchased it after my Sanyo of five years decided to call it quits.

So after loving that phone, I stayed in the family and went for Sanyo's top model. And I am greatly pleased once again. The speakerphone in the handset is amazing and works perfectly. It has four different styles of ring, useful due to the fact that I have two of these on separate lines in my household.

Also has everything else that you would expect out of a cordless phone, no cheap surprises as I've read about before on other brands.

The sound was mentioned as a drawback in another review, and while it does echo a bit, it's not something I consider a drawback. The sound is something you grow used to, and the volume control helps improve the echo a bit. Unnoticeable by the third or fourth day.

Also the battery was misunderstood by another user. It says that you must charge the phone for a full 12 hours BEFORE initial use, then goes on to recommend that you charge a full 12 if the battery is completely exhausted. It does allow you to charge whenever not in use, as any other phone would do.

The range is amazing too, I can send and receive calls up and down my street, or while sitting on a friend's couch five houses down.

Great phone, every feature you can imagine, and based on my previous Sanyo experience, something you can depend on for many years to come.

Summary: Outstanding range and clarity
Review: I've had a Sanyo 900mhz cordless phone for over 4 years now and just couldn't be happier with it. Typically a sceptical consumer, I agree with most of the statements in these reviews. This phone is superior! The buttons in the handset do light when in use, but the ones on the base do not. The range is unbelievable and the speakerphone on the base and in the handset are much better than I expected. This phone REALLY does work fine without being charged constantly. My four year old Sanyo still goes a week between charges. I read reviews prior to ordering this phone and was a bit concerned about the echoing that others have mentioned. I've never noticed echoing in either of my phones. If it does have an echo it's not worth mentioning. Friends have been amazed with the first phone's audio quality, the same as a corded phone, and this new one is no different. If I needed another cordless phone, I'd run right out and get ANOTHER Sanyo.

Review: Nice features, great sound, and incredible range. But a bit pricey given alternatives, and routinely out of stock.

Summary: Outstanding range and clarity
Review: The range on this phone is 3 times farther than any other 900DSS or 2.4ghz phone I have tried. Clarity is excellent to the limit of the range. Haven't noticed any 'echo' when talking. Speakerphone is average quality. Not many bells and whistles except for the very handy speakerphone on the handset, but a must buy if you want range and clarity.

Summary: So convenient
Review: We love this phone - the speakerphone in the handset works perfectly. The only drawbacks to the phone are that at first the sound took some getting used to when not on speakerphone (I hear my own voice echo when I talk) and the battery has to run down all the way and then charge for 12 hours. We prefer to be able to charge intermittently. But overall we are thrilled with the speakerphone feature and love the phone.
