Summary: perfect for teens who have their own line & the house line!
Review: This phone rocks! Its got everything a teen has ever wanted and its also at such a great deal! After so much searching though the office stores for phones, amazon.com solved the problem. i can't wait till it comes to the house!

Summary: All of our phones are Vtech
Review: We purchased our first basic Vtech cordless phone about 4yrs. ago. When another phone stopped working, we replaced it with a Vtech. Last year we bought yet another Vtech, like the model above and loved it though I paid a higher price and no rebate. Last week my son took the phone on a diving adventure in the toilet. This is not a good idea. Amazingly the LCD pad and ringer still worked but the keys didn't. After giving VT-2960 a beautiful send off we brought in a replacement. Another VT-2960. And I think it has great range. I've actually driven to the entrance of our subdivision while still talking, much further than the manual says. Yes, I know it's not a car phone :)

Summary: Not too bad when it's working
Review: We purchased this little gem exactly two years ago because it was the only phone we could find around here that had all of the features that we wanted (cordless, two-lines, speakerphone, answering machine). It has been working good most of the time and up until now we've been able to unplug it and then get it up and running again. However, yesterday when I got home from work I tried to listen to my messages and none of the buttons on the top are working, so basically at this point it is a cordless, call screening speakerphone. My guess is that it's going to be cheaper to buy something else than to get this one repaired. I had a Panasonic before this that lasted over ten years and still worked when I gave it away (I got tired of messing with the cassettes), so I'm a bit disappointed. It is tedious to program and the cordless does not have a very comfortable earpiece (especially when you're on it for any length of time), but the belt clip and headpiece are great for solving that problem. I tried to call customer service and got a "quick fix" message and then was disconnected, so I've emailed them for some answers. Nope, don't think I'll buy another Vtech product.

Summary: Don't bother!
Review: We've had this phone for 6 months. The bad things far outway the good. BAD: Intercom / Speaker quality is poor; Unpleasantly 'loud' key tones; Overly complicated & not intuitive in general (such as switching between the speaker and handset); Heavy handset; And the final meltdown: The message machine has slowly failed over the past month, to the point that it no longer works at all.It's being sent back now!

Summary: Very Disappointed!
Review: When I first got this phone a year ago, I noticed a loud buzzing in the handset (like a chainsaw), unless you hold your finger on the charging contacts while talking, or if you use an add-on headset. This phone also laacks dual keypads, meaning you have to dial from the handset first, then turn on the base speakerphone later. I found this to be very inconvenient. Using a headset (not included) makes this a little less troublesome. The "backup battery" I installed in the base (an extra from VTech) doesn't retain the basic functions during a power outage (loses time anyways.) The second battery does allow you to make and answer calls when the power is out, though. Now, a year later, the phone cuts out occasionally, keeping you from hearing your party on the line, and has even disconnected about half a dozen calls now. I will NEVER buy a VTech cordless product again!

Summary: They couldn't even get the ringer right on mine
Review: When I first got this phone it didn't ring. I thought that was odd being ringing is the most basic of features. I called VTech customer service and that was as good as reading the manual myself. They agreed that something was wrong and I exchanged it for another one and I've got the same problem again - who knew?! Everything is set the way it's supposed to be for it to ring: I made sure none of the ringers were set to 0 when programming in the handset and of course both base ringer switches are set to "on". I've tested it by using line 1 and then I tried line 2. I've called this phone over 50 times. This damn phone should ring at some point, on the base or on the handset but it doesn't - it just flashes when there's a call... well, that doesn't do me any good. I don't think it's me since getting a phone to ring isn't unique customization . Just to make sure things haven't changed since the last time I bought a phone, I asked VTech and they said the default setting is for the ringer to be on and it should just ring, right out of the box without being programmed. Needless to say I'm not too happy with this phone and I don't think I'm gonna give it a third chance.

Summary: VTech 2960 sound quality is abysmal
Review: While connections are very clear and range is quite good for my purposes (walking around outside the house), the answering machine part of this phone is really annoying. First, if I hear one more people tell me I sound like I'm talking underwater in my outgoing message, I'm gonna shoot someone. Second, there's no feature to mass delete all your old messages (you have to go through one by one and delete). And third, that little beep that's supposed to let you know you have messages doesn't always work - particularly if you have more than one message or if someone called and triggered the machine but hung up. It's also hard to figure out how to set the time/day - I always have to get the manual. And the buttons on the base are confusing. My kids are always hitting intercom buttons or putting a line on hold when they meant to do something else. The other phone/answering machines just didn't seem this complicated. What I will say in favor of this phone is that unlike the others, mechanically I have had no problems - even though I wish the darn thing *would* break so I could get something different with a better sounding/designed asnwering machine.
