Review: from time to time while talking on the phone I would pull the entire unit off the counter much to my husband's displeasure. Since we have two lines into the house and a desire to save counter space, the V Tech two line cordless answering machine unit was the answer.

Summary: Hey, it's a good phone!
Review: Having read the negative reviews on this instrument, I can only think some folks are way too demanding of their home electronics! (Maybe you have to be old enough to remember pre-TouchTone...) I never had any trouble with this phone at all, having had to replace a much older cordless phone that picked up too much outside noise. The sound was great, the batteries were plenty long-lived for home (and SOHO) use, and there was never any bleed-over when both lines were in use. And the complaints I've seen -- the beeping when you push the buttons, etc -- strike me as very trivial. Unfortunatly, my phone was recently fried by a nearby lightning strike, as were my modem and network card, and now I'm acquiring a DSL line, so I'm cutting back to a single phone line. I will probably replace my poor, dead phone with VTECH's model 2461 -- but if I still needed two lines, I would defintely replace it with another model 2960!

Review: I am shocked at the negative reviews on this page. I have owned this phone for 2 years with absolutely no problems. Battery life, reception, ease of use, audio quality have all been excellent. Security is unmatched! I am buying a second one for my father. I would recommend this phone to anyone!

Summary: A Word of Warning
Review: I bought this 4 of these phones because I wanted the features offered: 2-lines, a built-in answering machine, caller id, and is cordless. Unfortunately I had insurmountable difficulty using it. Although I would set one phone answering machine On and the other three OFF, all four phones would mysteriously get turned on and play the greeting asynchronously. Every day, the phones would beep indicating a channel search at various times during the day and NIGHT and had to be unplugged and reprogrammed. When people called, their voices would be blocked about every 5 words and sometimes the tramsmission would be lost altogether. Customer service is a joke. One VTech Customer Service agent informed me that I had too many phones. After various trials using only 2 phones, she said my phones did indeed have problems but that, even if repaired or replaced, they would not work in my home environment. She said, "That happens in some areas." She then recommended that I try the vendor. Another Customer Service Agent said VTech could replace my phones with a newer model since this one is no longer being manufactured. (Since I bought the phones in advance for a move some months later, the vendor will not take back the phones.)Caveat emptor!

Summary: Great Feature List...if they worked.
Review: I bought this phone about a year ago because of the rich feature list. The two-line capability with conference feature was perfect for the home office. However, when you conference the two lines together, I can hear both parties, but they can't hear each other. So, I've got to repeat what one person says to the other. The battery back-up feature in the base looked like a great way to have your settings saved during power outages. But, what they don't tell you is that the battery back-up ONLY allows you to make and receive phone calls. All the setup information is NOT saved across power outages. Every time you lose power, you have to re-program the base unit--a time consuming and non-intuitive process. Why they choose this method--I'll never know. The headset jack was just what I needed for hands free conversation. But, after two months, the headset jack wore out. Another feature that became worthless. The digital answering device for both lines was another feature I was looking for. I could now replace the single line digital answering machine I had for one line, and the tape answering machine for the other line. But again, the quality of the recording on this Vtech is so poor, I had to go back to the old answering machines I had...including the tape answering machine. Vtech customer service? Don't bother. They're so anti-customer focused and tell you that you're the problem, not their phone. This is my first and last Vtech product. Bottom line: Great feature list, but none of them work as advertised. Customer service is a waste. Look at another manufacturer's product.

Summary: sounds better on paper
Review: I got excited when I first saw this phone. I wanted a 2-line cordless phone with answerer, and at the time this was the only one. The excitement wore off fast. Whenever I talked for more than a few minutes, there was terrible clicking and popping that made conversation nearly impossible. The V-tech folks (who were very responsive) said that every phone is a little different, even within the same make and model, and suggested I exchange it. I did, but the 2nd phone had the same clicking and popping. So I exchanged it again. Same clicking and popping with the 3rd phone. Then I gave up and bought something else.

Summary: A Beautiful Device
Review: I have been absolutely astonished to read negative reviews of this phone. I mean that sincerely. Since I bought it a year ago, paying a premium price for it somewhere besides Amazon, unfortunately, I have not had a single problem with it that was directly related to the phone. Any problems I had were poor phone lines, or a poor understanding of operating the phone. I got mine with an optional headset, also by V-tech, and it adds to the beauty of this phone. With the belt clip it comes with you can wear it around the house chatting, sit at your desk, whatever you want to do with it. With two lines, and also two separate answering machines that can have individualized messages, it is a darling machine. I happen to love hi-tech toys and tools, and I consider this phone to be a convergence of both. I have used the conference call feature on it many times now, actually hooking my wife up at work on her cell phone, long distance to her mother in Europe, via an Internet connection provided by an Actiontech telephony device and it worked beautifully. I have switched to using the Actiontech PCI card telephony device that allows you to use a normal telephone, and now I use one of the phone's lines exclusively for that purpose. I came to this website to buy another one of these phones, having paid two hundred dollars for mine from Spiegel. Can I say more about this phone than to buy another one?

Recently the handset does not work reliably; I can hear fine but the microphone & headphone connection do not always work - the other person might not hear you. I mostly just use it's basic features. You can dial the number before connecting to the line, which is nice because you do not have to hear the "beeps" in your ear. Overall, I was pleased with this phone and am considering getting another one to replace the defective version.

Summary: Easy to Use!!!!!
Review: I ordered to phone and receieved it two days later. It took all of 5 mins to set up. It was so simple. It comes with everything for setup except a spare battery and the optional headset. The phone is compact,and the lighted keypad is great at night. The phone also comes with an easy owners'manual. If you want a nice phone with great features then this is the one for you.
