Summary: Not too bad
Review: I've had this phone for about 7 months now. It's performed well and met my needs. The sound quality is good--better than what I've experienced with other digital spread spectrum phones. There's no echo or digital artifacts. I've had strange behavior when I'm almost out of range, but that's to be expected. The answering machine feature works fine. There are a couple of things that bother me. The handset isn't very comfortable to hold for long periods of time. When I'm going to be on the phone for a while, I always want to reach for another phone. The battery life is also a little short for my tastes. When I hit 'flash' to switch to another call, the microphone seems to cut out for about 3 seconds. That's makes answering another call a little awkward; the caller always ends up hearing "lo?" because I invariably start talking too soon.Overall the phone has been satisfactory. The drawbacks are minor for my use, and I haven't been sorry that I bought it.

Summary: Uniden EXS 9800
Review: My minimium requirement was a Digital/900MHz SSP phone, with digital answerer. All similar equipped phones sell for $100+ (i.e. Sony, Siemens, Panasonic). I considered the 2.4GHz, but that wasn't a requirement (for me). I recommend you look into the security associated with a SSP phone, especially as a ham-radio buddy showed how easy it is to "listen-in" on cordless phone coversations! The EXS9800 has worked great, as I've had it for one week now. The speakerphone was like a freebie, compared to other mfg phones. Frankly, the next best price for this phone was [more than the price on Amazon.com], which I could find on the internet, so kudos to Amazon for the GREAT price! The "beep" is fairly loud, but my phone is in my family room, so that's a "non-issue" for me. Every phone review (here on Amazon) had their supporters and naysayers (including this very phone, which is pretty obvious if you're reading this). It really isn't clear which phone mfg is best, as they ALL seem to have had bad experiences with buyers, ymmv. My 2nd choice would be the Siemens 2415 (2.4GHz SSP)...; be careful, though, as there appears to be a large number of "refurbished" units for-sale, which imho must be indicative of bad quality-control (or something like that, ymmv). Summary: Good reception.. some basic problems
Review: Overall, the phone is good. However, I would not recommed it to a friend for the following reasons: 1. The phone hangs up when you try to hold it between your shoulder and your ear. The "Talk" button needs to be relocated so you do not accidently disconnect 2. Answering machine speaker is too low and not clear enough.

Review: Purchased over 1 year ago. Phone has operated with no problems. The headset is worth the money and buy an extra battery to keep charged. I was shocked to hear of failure problems. None with mine!

Summary: An excellent value
Review: The 9800 is the only model I found from any manufacturer that combines digital spread spectrum, caller ID, speakerphone, and a digital answering machine all in one model. Having used it for a week now, I am happy to say it works great. And- at an affordable price. I basically doubled the range from my old (quality) analog cordless, but the real benefit is the clarity of the signal - no more static interference - none. I love it. The look and feel is nice, too, and the buttons fairly intuitive. It took almost no time to set up and go - good manual. The answering machine has all the right features, and I like being able to 'skip' a message (not easy with the old analog). The sound quality is a little weak, but adequate. I may try the headset attachment at some point. Overall, the best cordless I have ever had and I would recommend.

Review: THE BASE IS VERY AWKWARD AND BULKY. SOUND QUALITY IS GOOD BUT THE ANSWERING MACHINE SOUND QUALITY IS TERRIBLE FOR INCOMING AND OUTGOING MESSAGES. THAT'S THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT.

Summary: OK Phone - Terrible Company
Review: The Phone sounds good. The looks are a bit industrial. The size of the base is very large. Some of the operations are a bit mystical. If someone else answers the phone and you want to get on the same line and talk too or if your answering machine gets the call first, you need to push the line of the call once, wait for 2 seconds and then push the line again. If you have guests you need to train them on how to use the phone. Worst of all is the customer service department. If you call the 800 line it may take as much as 6-8 hours to get through. When I called and asked for a supervisor, I was put into voice mail. When I asked to speak to someone in sales or at least management, the receptionist gave me the message that customers can only talk to customer service and shouldn't bother anyone else. At this point I never wanted to buy another Uniden product.

Review: This is a good phone... could have been a great phone if it weren't for several annoying problems with the design. There are many great features to this phone, but you can get info. on all of them from the product description or from the Uniden web site. What they don't tell you I've written below. I've had this phone for about 9 months and I've overcome most of it's issues. The range for this phone is nice (I've taken it down to the park which is a 1 1/2 blocks from my house). The issues I still struggle with are as follows: First, the "talk" button is a problem. It's large and easy to depress. Anyone with a cheek is bound to cut off their colleague, family or friend mid-sentence when positioning the phone between your shoulder and your ear. Second, the base has a speakerphone but no hold button. It's easy to answer the phone when you can't find the handset... just remember that you have to hang up the base after you have located the handset. As an added bonus, if you bring the handset too close to the speakerphone with them both on, you will get the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Third, there's no hold or mute button on the handset. The hot item on the other end of the line WILL hear that toilet flushing if you aren't careful. Fourth, Call Waiting Caller-ID is nice, but saving the number is a pain because you have to add a 1 for long distance numbers. When editing the number, the additional digit can't be inserted, so you end up re-typing the whole number again. Like I said, nice. Fifth, sound quality for the answering device is pathetic. Maybe Uniden was trying to make a nostalgia play by making the answering system sound like two tin cans and string. Those are the big ones. I got a headset to deal with the hands-free issue and the other issues I just live with. Overall, I think there are better phones out there.
