Summary: Siemens works for me
Review: After seeing the mix of reviews on this product and the other brands of cordless phones/answering machines as well, I took the plunge and went for the 4015 and an extra handset.

The negative reviews sounded to me to be environmental problems. I do not live in a dense urban area, I do not have a home computer network and I do not run the microwave oven much. My phone does "click" when the microwave is running, but I have a few solutions to dealing with that: don't turn on the microwave when the phone is in use, don't turn on the phone when the microwave is in use, take the phone out of the kitchen if it is imperative that they both be used at once, or simply listen to the click for a few minutes. It's not that bad. For me.

Reception throughout the house has been wonderful and I can wander in the backyard with no loss of sound quality.

Cons: The ring tones are really stupid. I remember when phones actually had bells in them. Now it sounds like there are cell phones ringing throughout the house. The base has no provision to mount on the wall. Since there are no controls on the base, why clog up counter space? The handset menus are not great, but after four brands of cell phones, none of them were really great either. One other bad thing: the handset doesn't have a cord. My wife still wanders around the house with it and leaves it hidden.

Pros: It's a phone. It works - people can call me, I can call them, they can leave messages. I use it as a consumer product, not as a business tool. I don't have a huge house or a large estate so reception has not been a problem. The base is nice and small, much smaller than our previous analog answering machine. I like the feature of having all of the controls in the handset rather than on the base.

Other: I bought an additional handset and had a bugger of a time getting the handset to register to the 4015 base. I called Siemens customer care and they helped me out. The spare handset must be placed in the 4015 base once, not just it's own cradle (doh!)in order for it to be recognized.

Summary: Amazing phone!
Review: This is an amazing, though misunderstood phone. It is a WDCT (World Digital Cordless Telecommunications) phone, a varient of DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications). DECT is illegal in the United States and Canada, as well as several other places because it uses a band at about 1.9GHz licensed to PCS in North America (the equivilent is 1.8GHz licensed to GSM in most of the rest of the world, but our military uses that band for undisclosed purposes). It still features most of the capabilities of "true" DECT phones, including amazing sound quality and features. It has a great display (though only one line for Caller ID:( ), Upto 3 handsets (not as many as most DECT and WDCT phones however), alphanumeric phonebook, keyback lock, backlit screen, 10 ringtones, high quality answering machine, alarm clock - everything! It is basically the same phone as the very popular Siemens Gigaset 4015 Classic DECT available in other countries (I'd really like the Comfort version, smaller, more expensive, more features - but they haven't made a WDCT version of it yet and the 4215 was way too expensive). Sound quality is amazing, and security - well I can't make guarantees, but I feel safer than with any other cordless because of the WDCT system. Range is good, though non-WDCT phones can offer better range (for example, while an analog phone can get staticy - the digital WDCT is all or nothing, so you hit a signal cut off point). Overall, you won't be unhappy with this phone! Oh, the batteries are a downside (NiCd), but thankfully they're AA and it can charge NiMH - so REALLY nice NiMH Rayovac's that will give you an incredible battery life... The NiCd isn't limited to this phone - for some reason most phones are NiCd, and most aren't as easy (if it's even possible) to replace with NiMH.

Summary: Don't Bother
Review: The answering machine on this unit is lousy. The controls are not intuitative and difficult to navigate. Visable notification of new messages is hard to see. You cannot listen to incoming calls before picking up. The voice quality is OK. It does not live up to the Siemans name for quality. You can do better for less money by getting a comparable system from Panasonic or AT&T.

Summary: Nothing but waist of money
Review: I purchased this phone about 2 weeks ago. And it's going back to the store today. I have 2 other 900MHz Panasonic phones. I liked the design. I wanted to get one for a long time most of all because it's a legendary Siemens. I was fooled by the name. This phone is a nothing but waist of money. I don't know where those other reviewers who said that this is a great phone and there is no static. But I live in Los Angeles and every body has a codeless phone and lives close to each other. There is way too much noise in this phone. My friends say that it sounds like I am calling from a propeller plane.
I don't like that there are no operating buttons in the base set. I don't think we should adapt to machines that are made to make our lives easier, instead those machines should be made to adapt in to our lives. I think there should be buttons in the base unit.
Ring tones are just annoying. There are 10 of them and 1 can be somewhat tolerable.
The bottom line is this phone is design for the European market and it just doesn't work for the US lifestyles.

Summary: Super Phone
Review: I have been using this phone for more than two weeks now. The reception is clear, range is good. The menu and directory system was intuitive to me. I did not have any problems setting it up. I also liked the fact that batteries are standard AA rechargables. Excellent all-in-one.

Since I do not have an additional handset I cannot comment on the comm. among handsets.

If a speakerphone (something that I have never used) is not important to you, I definetely recommend this system.

Summary: Do Not Buy This Product
Review: I'm not a smart man but I'm not a crazy man either. I bought this phone and for a couple of weeks it was the best thing since Penelope Cruz in Open Your Eyes. Then one day it stopped working forever and I wept. Save yourself the pain and weeping. Buy a different brand.

Summary: Not as advertised!
Review: If you're looking for a 4 phone system, do not buy the 4015! It only supports 3 handsets total. You have to buy the 4010 or the 4200 series if you want 4 phones. Siemens does a terrible job of communicating this. Some places in the manual say 3, some say 4, and the website even says 6. When I pointed this out to customer support, they didn't seem to care. Also, in my house the extention handsets had terrible clicking static, rendering them useless. I had high hopes for this product, but had to return it.

Summary: Returned It
Review: Lousy sound quality: either an echo effect or just kind of fuzzy. All functions done through handset, which turns out to be a real pain. Thumbs down.

Summary: Poorly designed and poor quality at a premium price.
Review: I have had this phone two months. I was surprised to find that it does not have a speed dial feature. What they call speed dialing requires you to open the directory, page through till you find the person you want to call, and then punch the talk button. The voice dial is even worse. You have to find the person in the directory before saying their name to call them. Unlike most phones you can't just program a phone number to be called when you punch 1, 2, etc.

The sound quality is not good. It is often hard to hear the person on the other end of the line. I can't see much improvement over the Radio Shack 900Mhz unit we replaced. The ring options do not include any that sound like a normal phone ring, they are musical tunes or pager tones. Since we have two pagers and kids toys and cell phones that all play tunes or similar tones, it is confusing (and a little irritating) to figure out that the phone is ringing.

In about 45 days the battery began to fail. It only holds a charge for about 20 min. If the handset is not carefully seated on the charger it will discharge in a couple of hours even without being used.

It is a very complicated phone to program, and very time consuming to figure out the most basic functions. The software must have been designed by Microsoft because it is completely illogical and complicated. Also, you have to take any problems you have directly back to Siemens (a German firm) after you open the box. Their support is minimal and there is no assurance of satisfaction if the product just stinks. This is the worst phone I have owned.

Summary: Hard to use, bad caller ID display
Review: Bought this phone after reading some good reviews. I was having no trouble with my old panasonic 900mHz, but wanted caller ID.

The problems:
-The menus to make adjustments are ridiculously complicated and not intuitive. I am not stupid and can read the instructions, but there is no reason to make a menu system this convoluted
-Very difficult to scroll through the list of missed calls, and no indicator light to tell you when people called
-only one line for caller ID so it cycles through name and number one at a time - extremely annoying

The pros:
It does have some good ring tones
Style factor is good
