Summary: Great phone!
Review: I've gone through several cordless phone systems and this one has most satisfied me. It has a comfortable ergonomic design, is compatible with most standard headsets and has lots of cool features. It's also pretty sturdy. I've dropped it on tile floor a couple of times without incident. Great sound quality.The only thing I would change if I had my way is the 'end' button to hang up or end a process. It's a teenie, tiny button. It either needs to be bigger, or the talk button should be a toggle button.

Summary: Perfect All-Around 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone/Answering Machine
Review: I've had this phone for three weeks. It's not worthy of a glowing five star review, but it's definitely one of the best cordless phones on the market. It's also a great deal. Despite some critical reviews, the sound quality of the TRU-448 is excellent. Let's get something straight...no cordless phone is ever going to match a corded phone for clarity. Reviewers have to recognize this fact and get past it. As far as cordless phones go, the TRU-448 with its 2.4 GHz circuitry has commendable sound. It also has adequate range. I have one piece of advice for reviewers who get annoyed when the sound quality of a cordless phone degrades hundreds of feet from its base unit: Get a cell phone. This phone is ideal for use around the house/yard/patio. Beyond that, call Verizon. One reviewer questioned the legitimacy of earlier five-star reviews. He or she theorized that the raves were actually submitted by Uniden employees. He or she also claimed to have never heard of Uniden. Interestingly, that person gave this phone a three-star rating despite the fact that he or she apparently doesn't own it. I don't know if the five-star reviews were authored by Uniden employees, but I do know that Uniden has been in the cordless phone business for decades. I am not a Uniden employee. I'm certainly willing to point out this phone's shortcomings. I've found three. My first criticism is ringer volume. You have two choices: Low and High. Where's Medium? High is earsplitting and low is inaudible. My second criticism relates to the answering machine. When a caller leaves a message, the answering machine takes 30 seconds to "recycle." If someone calls within 30 seconds of someone else leaving a message (or the caller immediately redials to leave a follow-up message), they get a busy signal. Since there are no moving parts (no outgoing or incoming message cassettes) I have no idea why the phone stays busy for 30 seconds. My last criticism concerns the keypad. Not all the buttons are backlit. The caller-ID, speed dial, redial and channel change buttons (the black ones seen in the product photo) are indiscernible in the dark. All three criticisms are pretty minor. Overall this is a great phone. Don't buy a 2.4 GHz cordless phone/answering machine combo that's more expensive.

Summary: Best I've found, which isn't saying much
Review: My phone is normally very clear and audible. It receives strong interference from my microwave oven, and occasionally gets weaker static for unknown reasons (my neighbors' microwaves, perhaps?) I rather like its "Rocket Dial" feature -- when I press and hold 3 for a second or so, it completes the number to my regular phone conference. If I then press the on button, it dials the conference number, pauses a few seconds to get into the system, then dials the security code. Nice and easy, and you see it before it dials so you can abort mistakes early.

Review: The most I like about this phone are the sound clarity, ease of use, and size. While talking from a good distance from the receiver, I've had not problem with sound. The only think I get is good quality sound. I don't miss anything what other people say. Two things I dislike about this phone are the end botton, and the words on or below bottons. First, the end botton is fairly small. If you miss pressing it after you've done talking, which I have done several times, the phone will continue to be on and no one else can call you. So, very careful with this button. The words fade very rapidly if your not careful. I had my phone for 9 months now, and almost all the words are erased. This is all from normal usage.

Summary: Nice phone but not that great range
Review: This phone works great, but I only get about 100 ft from the base before it starts breaking up. In the house it has great sound quality. I like the look and feel of the handset and how almost everything is backlit. Answering machine is very good, and the flashing message indicator on the handset is helpful. I would recommend.

Review: We got this system (with the extra handset) about a month ago. So far I've very pleased with the phones performance. Reception is just a notch below crystal clear, but far better then any other cordless phone I've owned. The feature set for the phone is great, comparable to my cell phone. I have had no problems programming in address books, special rings, and any other number of extra features. I would definitely recommend this system to anyone who is looking for a quality home phone.

Summary: Coulda been so good...
Review: Well, after my extraordinarily frustrating experience with Uniden, I don't think I'll never buy another of their products. The phone had potential. The handsets are lightweight, the caller id functions are easy to use (although not that easy to see), the extra handset is a beautiful feature. All this aside though, I've had the phone less than two weeks, and it's got a few issues. I had hoped to talk to Uniden and see if I could get the problem resolved, but that just ended up being another issue. Here goes: Issue 1: The main handset just dies. It's happily sitting in the charger with the charging light on (and usually has been all day), but when the phone rings, the display says "battery low" and I can't get any response from the phone. I have to go racing to another room to answer. Usually unplugging the battery and plugging it back in resolves this for the next hour or so, then the same problem pops up. Issue 2: The answering maching cuts off the last two-three seconds of a message. Not a big deal, but irritating. Issue 3: Periodically (on the handset referred to in issue 1) I get periods of dead silence lasting about 5 seconds while trying to talk on the phone. Again, no biggie, but more irritating on top of issue 1 and 2. Issue 4: This one's the doozie. The back of the book says "At Uniden, we'll take care of you" and provides a customer service "hotline". I'm sure that this hotline is perfect for Uniden, but it's a bit less convenient for we the consumers. Every single option which implies it will let you talk to a person (including "Speak to a customer service representative") sends you (guss where, you'll never believe it) to the main menu - you know, the first one you get when you first call. According to their office hours, they're open, and I tried all day long. For this reason alone, I'll return this phone. If that's taking care of me, then I'm really [out of luck] if they decide to ignore me! Anyway, this has some great reviews (why I bought it, of course) so perhaps it's worth the attempt, but I really wish I never had. It's been a really royal pain in the yin-yang!

Summary: Not a good buy
Review: Wife hates it..we have had trouble with signal breaking up and static on transmission. Contacted Uniden repair and they said to move to new location..easy said but not convenient to us. Micro Wave seems to drive it nuts. I guess it would work fine if used in the front yard.
