Summary: Sony has lost their touch
Review: I have been a LONG time religious purchaser of SONY phones and stereo components, and I'm sorry to say that I will no longer purchase SONY phones. This phone has given me continous problems since week 3. The signal kicks out, even in the same room as the base set, you can hear it changing channels (and it cuts off reception while doing so). I returned it twice and had the same problems with the new phones. I just replaced it with the Siemen's 2.4gig. All in all, you can get MUCH better phones for the money. NOTE** My Sony 900MHz from 3 years ago is still running strong, but these new ones are just horrible.

Summary: Mediocre at best
Review: I haven't decided whether to return it or not: It seems to be a solid unit. My specific gripes: 1) No lighted handset 2) There is a "Hold" button, but not a "Mute". I'm often on conference calls and I like to be able to type while I'm listening. 3) The microphone on the handset seems to be a little *too* sensitive to background noise.

Positive features: 1) Good range 2) Nice compact footprint

Overall, I'm not convinced that it's a wise investment.

Summary: Caveat emptor! (Don't buy this phone)
Review: I own a lot of Sony stuff and usually I'm really impressed with their quality and performance, but this phone is a dog.

Functionally it's great. Very clear sound, excellent range, useful autodial, caller ID on the handset ... nice.

But practically it sucks. There's no battery indicator so you can't tell if how much life it has left. Now, that shouldn't be a problem with the advertised lifetime of the battery (several days on standby, hours worth of talk time). I figured you could put it on the stand every night and you'll be fine, right?

Nope. Talk time on this thing is under an hour fully-charged and, when the battery goes, it just shuts off. No warning at all. And if you've had the thing off the stand for a day or so the talk time is *maybe* 15 minutes. It has cut out on my wife so often that she really hates using it.

This is the worst phone I've ever owned. If I could return it, I would. I can't even in good conscience give it away, so I may smash it to pieces with a hammer so that no one else has to be subjected to it.

My wife was looking at replacements recently and the store clerk said that they got so many of these phones returned that they won't carry them any more. Amazon is listing it as out-of-stock, but I hope they've pulled it completely.

Take my word for it: Don't buy this phone! And, if you're from Sony, fire the entire design team. (It really is THAT bad.)

Summary: James
Review: I've had this phone for just under 1 year and I think the performance of the phone with regards to interferance and typical cordless phone flaws is unparalleled. Also, I have never had any cross talk- the clarity is increadible and no different than a corded phone. The call-waiting ID works like a gem also. So you ask yourself- why is this guy giving this phone three stars? It's plain and simple, Sony cut corners on the features of this phone. My gripes are as follows: 1)The speaker phone only works when things are quiet on both ends of the line- don't use it in a room that doesn't have carpet, the speakerphone is not full-duplex meaning that only one person can talk at a time for the other person to hear- morse code would be better. Often times when I call my voice-mail, the sound of the voice message prompt throws the phone into silence with choppy bits of the voice mail I am trying to receive 2) The low battery warning is far from a warning- 4 beeps at 5 seconds tops and you better race to a wired phone if you want to continue your conversation. 3)You can't scroll the caller i.d. at the base station so if you come home and want to check who called, you have to go find the handset. 4) The handset screen and keypad are not illumated. 5)You can store 50 numbers in the handset but not in the base station- you only get 10 numbers to speed dial, however, the speed dialing keys do not work on my base station- I'll be taking my unit to the Sony repair center- I anticipate that they will fix it at no charge. By the way I have had great service from this center on another sony product that needed repair(due to pilot error and no fault of sony's). They were extremely quick and they do all of their repairs in-house, your product is not sent off to get fixed.

Summary: OK but you can't use the memory dial for 10-10-... numbers
Review: If I can find a similar phone, but one that allows memory or manual dialing in the prefix such as 10-10-987-1 ,(for long distance wholesalers), then speed or memory dialing the number, I will exchange mine. I don't know yet if any memory dial phones allow this. These 18 digit calls must be looked up on the really neat memory wheel-button, (16 digit limit), then punched in manually. Also, it would be better sometimes if the handset screen was illuminated.

Summary: I returned mine
Review: Nice features but I returned mine mainly because of the hollow, or tinny, way my voice sounded when I spoke, this was confirmed by other users. The handset display is not illuminated and cannot be read in dim light (this is the only way to review your Caller ID list, the base will not do it). Also I could not put more than 16 numbers into my speed dial making it unusable for accessing voice mail codes.

I liked the base keypad and dual display.

Summary: Can't program 1010811+area code +7 digit phone numbers
Review: Phone has everything I have been looking for but I can't program 1010811 numbers. The phone accepts only 16 digits. I had this problem before with an old Panasonic which only took 16. I bought a new Panasonic this year and it takes 22 numbers. I believe the 16 numbers is old technology and an oversight by Sony. I am sure it would not be a problem to change this.

I look forward to hearing from SONY.

Again, I think it is a great product but I have to return it because I have too many phone numbers to enter and I can't be dialing them everytime I want to use them.

Thanks AMAZON for your courteous response and help with my return.
