Summary: Almost great
Review: I've had much lesser phones and I've had better. But the V-Tech 2.4GHz is a great choice for those wanting a middle-of-the-road, joe-blow, average phone. The price is great and the specs rate up with much higher end phone systems. I have had problems with the headset jack and the overall sound quality is slightly distant sounding. Not so much, however, that you don't get used to it as long as you don't have a lot of background noise. Speakerphone is great and the flexibility of ring tones and other options leave a lot for the gadget [expert] to tweak on for a while. If you don't want to jump up to the ($) phones, go with the V-Tech.

Summary: A great phone system for the price
Review: I purchased this Vtech system, with a total of three handsets, as a replacement for one of the original Siemens multiple-handset systems, which had such severe handset malfunction problems and Caller ID deficiencies that I eventually just tossed the whole [price]worth in the trash. Ouch!I find the sound quality of the Vtech to be adequate to good. The speakerphone feature on the handsets, while not as good as a dedicated speakerphone, is really great for those times when you need to have both hands free for a minute or two. The handset speakerphone feature really makes this system for me. Entering names and numbers in the directory wasn't too difficult, and went quite quickly once I got the hang of it. It's not perfect, tho, and I have three complaints: First and foremost - you cannot transmit the directory entries from one handset to another (the Siemens system could do this), resulting in a royal pain if you have a lot of phone numbers and you want them in all your handsets. Alternatively, if you have Caller ID, you can save the incoming call info in the directory. But this is usually in "last name, first name" format, and I personally don't care for it that way. Second - once you have put a name and number in the directory, you can edit only the number, and not the name - if you need to change the name, you just have to delete the entry and start over. Third - there is no dedicated ringer off/on or volume control button on the handsets - either one would suffice - and the volume control function is several levels down in the menus. This complaint applies to most of these high-tech phones these days.

Summary: Excellent Phone
Review: I just purchased the VT2431, and am quite pleased with its performance. Despite the rather faint white noise, the phone has well surpassed my expectations. I was really leary on purchasing this phone, after reading the comments on here, but I thought I would be different. I received a range that well surpasses My VTech 900 MHz phone, and I also noticed that I did receive the break-up problem. Solution? I moved the base a few inches and VOILA! The problem was gone. I would definately recommend this phone because of its features, range, clearity, and expandibility. If you are in the market for a 2.4 GHz phone, they all have fallbacks. This phone seems to have the fewest.

Summary: serious flaws
Review: this phone has several serious flaws - the first has to be the audio quality. i'm no telephony audiophile - but the sound of your own voice while speaking on this phone is filled with crackle to the extent that it becomes impossible to speak. secondly, the user interface i.e. storing and recalling numbers etc.. must have been designed in about 5 seconds. it is utterly unuseable. thirdly, and this is more of a general complaint for all of the 2.4 gig phones out there - who's idea was it to make these phones tiny and look like cell phones? i'm not the only one that wants a phone that's on the large size for my home. 1) i can tuck it in my neck and talk hands free 2) i can find the damn thing when i leave it about. 3) my hands don't become cramped while holding a tiny object to my ear. 4) i really don't need to put this in my pocket and take it places. until vtech can make a phone that you can actually make and receive calls with no problems - all the other features are garbage. this thing drops calls, 'searches for base' in the middle of calls and thanks to the UI i frequently have to dial the number 2 or 3 times before it knows what i'm actually trying to do. it's actually truly astounding that this phone is so bad. i'm returning this phone as we speak and buying a mundane black sony 900mhz like i've had for the past 8 years. avoid this unless you want a pretty little silver paperweight.

Summary: More stations than competitors (2030)
Review: Intercom is the feature that sets this group of phones apart. This vtech model is nice because the base unit is a functioning unit meaning there are two stations in the box. However at [local store] they offer the 2430 which has two handsets and the base unit making three stations total. If you need three stations this is economical. It is very rare not to do better on the net and I find this marketing strategy interesting. If you just need two be careful with buying the other brands and finding yourself with a phone and an answering machine. By the time you buy another headset the cost will go up dramatically. The base unit has endeared itself to me with its simple operation. When I am paged at the station it answers and hangs up automatically meaning I don’t have to lift a finger to begin or end the conversation. The base unit also has battery back up which is important to me in the mountains. It uses the same battery as the hand set so there is always a spare if needed. Ninety percent of my phone business is being done on the base unit with speaker phone and I haven’t had any complaints yet. When using the handset I set it to handsfree and clip to my collar. This phone has completely changed my habits in just a couple of weeks. I no expert at performance, but I did compare side by side with the Panasonic. They are probably the same phone inside as they look so similar on the outside. The performance was exactly the same. Don’t microwave while on the phone or crank up 1000 watts of short wave. You can walk to the mailbox, but no driving to the mini mart. It certainly was not as bad as I thought it would be after reading reviews. My only gripe so far is I wish I could lock the key pad on the remote units. I wish I could enter a phone number in one phone and have it be in all three. I wish the base unit had a plug to use a headset when some privacy is needed. In conclusion, you are looking at this phone because you need multiple stations. Make sure you are getting the best price per station, not best price per box. The result of my homework was to get three for $165 in the 2430 vTech version. If you need two it looks like Amazon shows some used 2431 units for a great price xcnick

Summary: VTech 2431 2.4G is all flash and no fire...
Review: After owning and loving my Vtech 900 model 1930c digital cordless for 3 years, I though the natural thing to do would be to get another more advanced Vtech...ala..the 2431 2.4G. WRONG! This phone is disappointing for several reasons: -The reception is poor. I can barely hear the person speaking, although they say they can hear me fine. -To increase the volume is complex and involves moving the phone away from you ear and pushing a couple of buttons. None of this helps with the voice reception/quality of the other party on the line. -The range is poor. To go down 4 flights of stairs to the basement laundry room results in the signal getting cut off. Yet I can go a block and a half down the street. My roomates Panasonic 2.4G can go down to the laundry room and 2 and a half blocks down the same street (but no one can hear him on his cordless (ain't that a bleep). -The handset is too small to rest on your shoulder. Although I could have lived with this if the previous mentioned problems were non-existent. I took it back and I will hold on to my old Vtech until I review the Panasonic Panasonic KXTG1000N 2.4GHz.

Summary: Mixed up phone with poor quality control
Review: The reviews here seem accurate based on my experiences. When the phone works its great, but unfortunately it does not always work. Mine was not clear when I first received it, but after a few weeks of use the sound quality and range was excellent. However, it then began to occasionally drop calls (battery charge was fine). After several months of randomly droped calls, it has stoped functioning as a phone (although the intercom works great still and the base speaker phone is fine).

Review: this is a terrible piece of equipment. half the time you can't answer an incoming call without it "searching for base" and losing the call. sometimes it just won't dial at all. we didn't get any interference, but we didn't feel that made up for its other serious problems. occasionally we would lose calls in the middle of a conversation because it felt the need to "search for base". my niece has a different model vtech and hers is just as bad. she can't leave her room with the phone. my suggestion is to avoid vtech phones altogether. they should stick to making children's toys.

Summary: Very pleased!!!
Review: I was hesitant to buy a 2.4 Ghz phone at all based on what I had been reading but I really wanted the speakerphone and pager/intercom features as well as to upgrade from (yeek) my 45 mhz phone from 9 yrs ago. So I plunged in and am SO happy that I did. The phone performs really well, is super easy to set up, and has great features to play around with. In terms of range I went all the way across our property (to where my husband hides at the hammock) and was still able to make a phone call - the distance is at least 300-350 feet from the house and it goes past a large stand of trees. (we live out in the country where there's not much "noise" so this might contribute to my success with reception and things) In terms of the background "hiss" that some folks have mentioned - i was really concerned about this because one of my pet peeves is noise on the line. The "hiss" is more like white noise and its so far in the background that you really have to listen for it and once you get talking on the phone you don't hear it 'cause you're chatting or listening to the other party on the phone. The person on the other end, by the way, can't hear it at all - so don't worry like I did - it doesn't interfere with the call. For the speakerphone, i called my voicemail at work to see what it sounded like and it was great - it didn't cut out or anything and its so easy to use. A great feature since the speakerphone is on both the base and handset. I ordered two additional handsets but they're on backorder so I haven't been able to try out the intercom function yet. Its easy to program in the numbers, you can easily delete names and numbers if you decide you don't like someone anymore, the keys and menus on the little screen are intuitive ans easy to navigate through. Yup - 5 big stars from me!

Summary: Best phone on the planet
Review: I've been searching for the perfect phone for many many years-- this is it. It has every feature I want: lit keypad for dialing in the dark, speakerphone on base AND handset, keypad on base, caller ID on handset, compact design, call notes message waiting light, intercom capability, cordless extension units, etc. The battery life is excellent and the range is fabulous. Last night I took my handset up to the roof of my downtown apartment building and not only did the phone work but it was clear as a bell. I've read the other reviews and it's unfortunate that one guy had interference problems. I've had none, and there are some DSS dishes near me plus my wireless D-Link also broadcasts at 2.4 GHz-- I've surfed the net while talking on my phone-- no problem. It's great to buy a product that actually lives up to my expectations. Buy this!
