Summary: Given 3.5 Stars - I am an owner of this phone.
Review: I have the phone (VTech) the one I am reviewing. I am happy with the phone, but it is very hollow and makes a echoing noise at certain times. I am not happy with the phone's quality, but the features and interface is very happen. I regret, really, buying this phone, however... its ok. i wouldnt go buy another one, however I am not pleased with it... M

Summary: Great Phone - Great Price
Review: I've used this phone for about 3 months now and it is excellent. With past cordless phones I've never been satisfied with the overall quality. This one has great reception, great range and great battery life for only $80.

Summary: Problematic at the least
Review: I may have had this phone for more than most people... It worked GREAT the first few months. Then by month 10 it no longer rang. This would be and continues to be my only problem. I returned it to vtech, they sent me a brand new phone and receiver. Took about a month unfortunately. This phone [didn't work either] and now im trying to consider buying something else or keeping this phone. I really like it but who wants a phone which doesnt ring?

Summary: GLAD I BOUGHT IT! HAS ALL THE FEATURES IN A SMALL PKG!
Review: I read the reviews on this phone before buying and was a bit skeptical because of some of the negatives, but took a chance. I work out of my home so a good phone is important to me. So far this phone is more than I expected. (I've had it about 3 weeks)It was the only phone that had everything I was looking for: spread spectrum (for privacy), compactness, large lcd screen, hold function, speakerphone, intercom (didnt think I would use this but it IS handy), and built in phone directory (like my cell phone). I don't even have call waiting but the phone does that too, of course. (I should note here that the phone I bought is almost identical but doesnt have the base speaker. It is the same handset, etc.) But even so the phone directory is a real time saver. It holds up to 50 numbers and you scroll up and down. Simplicity is also important to me and I don't like a lot of unnecessary buttons just for show. Vtech kept this one SIMPLE and that is what I like best. The large lcd is nice, back lit, and includes a battery level indicator like a cell phone, which is a really nice feature. The 3 "softkeys" work like a cell phone and change functions in different menus. I didn't really expect the speakerphone to work well but it sounds good and I do use it, so far with no complaints from callers. Oh, and the belt clip actually works pretty well, unlike some which let the phone slip easily off and onto the floor. NOW, you ask is it as good as a corded phone? Who would expect any compact cordless phone with all these features to have 100% clarity of a corded phone? But the slight difference is far more than compensated by the many advantages offered in this small package. I sometimes use this phone while sitting in front of my desk phone, because of its size and portability! If mine breaks after the warranty, I will just go and buy another handset unless someone comes up with a better phone for the money, which so far I have not seen.

Summary: Sound Quality is not as Good as Expected
Review: I've been pretty much hooked on V-techs until I bought this phone. The sound quality is poor. It always has a constant hum in your ear. You almost feel like your listening to the inside of a box. I was very disappointed.

Summary: It's ok -- handset menu is clunky
Review: We have been using this model as our main phone for almost a year and I'm here shopping for another, we will move this one to a bedroom. Main gripe -- we can't quite get use to the menu system -- get lost easily and it beeps at you. For example, finding a number in memory requires unintutitive keystrokes. I don't like fighting with my phone! Also -- when cradling the phone against my shoulder, I have inadvertantly muted the phone several times from my cheekbone pushing the menu button. Since the UI is clunky, I frantically try to unmute it and of course the caller thinks we have lost our connection. Lastly, you never want to lose the owners manual, because you'll never figure out how to program the phone without it. On the good side: Reception is fine, the speakerphone in the handset is really good.

Summary: Run, don't walk away
Review: I purchased the Vtech 2431 expandable 20 months ago (Apr01) along with 3 handsets. This was quite an investment for me. My wife and I had just purchased a 17 year old home with phone jacks in all the wrong places. I thought the Vtech expandable was my answer, boy was I wrong.The handsets are useless when the microwave and other various electrical equipment are operating. The conversation would be garbled. After 14 months of putting up with this, another problem appeared - the base handset quit allowing us to dial out. It simply stopped recognizing our pushing the keypad. I contacted customer support, it was near impossible to get a live person. Vtech had no solution for the electrical interference and sugessted I solve the handset problem by mailing it to them (with a high likelihood they would have to replace the handset at my expense). I have decided to write-off the experience and toss the whole system. I am starting over with a Panasonic expandable system. My confidence in the Vtech products has been shot. I will say all other features of the Vtech system worked reasonably well and seemed to be well thought out. Quality is questionable. Run, don't walk away from this phone.

Summary: Great phone --
Review: This phone stood up to SOOOO much abuse. Living with 14 girls in a house with only one phone for a year was pretty bad. Not only was it constantly in use, but it was dropped off the top bunk, thrown against a wall -- and it kept working great. Caller ID, speakerphone on the base & handset, and an answering machine all in one, for a pretty reasonable price. Overall, a good phone for the amount you pay, and mine has lasted for years, and is still in great working condition.

Summary: Looks great but fails to deliver
Review: I was sucked into buying this "high tech" phone because of it's sleek and futuristic appearance and it's myriad of bells and whistles. I was, however, quickly disappointed because the phone fails to deliver on the most basic of functions. Daily I deal with calls being interrupted due to the handset losing communication with the base unit. Also, the unit has the capability of adding up to 3 additional handsets that all communicate with one base unit. I added one handset (which alone was more expensive than many complete phone units)and unfortunately, it only worked for a few weeks before it developed such horrendous static and interference that I just stopped using it altogether.
My lesson learned from this experience is that just because it looks like a Mercedes doesn't mean it functions like one!
