Summary: Better with a headset
Review: I live in rural Minnesota, am on call to a local hospital but also like to garden. I selected this phone because I liked the options of answering from the handset, or if that was missing, from the base unit. I liked its near weightlessness but found it impossible to balance between my ear and shoulder. I also wasn't fond of the echo I heard when I talked. Instead of returning it I purchased a Plantronics M175 headset and the difference was miraculous. I now love this phone, ignoring my husband's frequent remarks about taking orders for McDonald's. I have had no reduction in sound quality up to 200 yards (the distance to the mail box) despite the fact that the base is next to my refrigerator (not encouraged by the manufacturer).

Summary: GREAT PHONE
Review: We bought this phone the other night, when we got home and plugged it in to charge we realized we only bought the accessory phone. So the next day we went and bought this one and decided to keep the extra one. It works really great. We only have one phone jack in the house so the extra one comes in handy for the kitchen, no phone jack needed for that, just plug it in to the electrical outlet and you are off! It has some really nice features. Great sound. I used the speakerphone and the person I was talking to didnt even know I was on the speakerphone. Must be good enough quality for that to happen. This is the best phone for the price range. We are very pleased with the outcome of these phones.

Summary: It's a terrific phone
Review: I'm not sure about the others complaining of bad sound/poor range. I found neither to be true. The range exceeds that of my last two 900MHz phones ~ 125-150 feet (through several brick walls). Loaded with features; the handsfree on the handset is very nice, although it can be difficult to hear with a lot of ambient room noise because the speaker is on the back of the handset and it gets washed out if the TV or radio is on. Very nice menu features and the volume control "goes to 11," that is, the high end is probably louder than you'd like - which is a refreshing change (I'm sure the people that use the loudness feature on pay phones might appreciate this).

Summary: Must be a "local" thing as found this phone to be fantastic!
Review: Just installed this phone (with one extension set) in my girl friend's condo in Westchester, NY and found it be be the best cordless phone I have ever used! Installation was easy, the voice quality is superb and the range is so good that she can now take it down to the pool (about 200 yards away) with no change in quality. Only real complaint is that you have to "program" speed dials into each handset but guess that's an advantage if you're using it in a situation where each person might want their own set of speed dial numbers. Used it for a very long (over 1 hour) call with a client and the battery indicator didn't even budge so believe that battery life should be really good. Definitely recommend getting an extra battery for the base unit so that your phones will still work during a power outage. Highly recommended.

Summary: Disappointed with sound quality
Review: I just had to try this little techno-critter to see if it was any good as its features are the best available, and it fit my installation needs perfectly ('tho I wish the wall mounting bracket were more attractive). I got it locally (WMT) so that it would be an easy return if needed, and it was less $ than anywhere else I could find it. I really wanted to be able to add 2 or 3 extensions as well, but that is the end of my happy story. The features are easy to use, even intercom and paging, but the sound quality is rather poor, IMO. I wanted to use it in the kitchen/dinette area, so that I need not have a cord crossing the countertops and blocking the way of others. It would also be easier to pass around the corner to the living room than a corded phone. Unfortunately, it had a hiss no matter where I plugged it in (power and phonejack cords) and no matter where I was in relation to the base. The directions say to move it away from other electronics and off of circuits that are used by electronics too. I did that in my 90 minutes of experimenting, and no luck- all the same noise. Oh well... On the positive side, I did walk down the street (~300yds) with it, and the sound quality did not diminish, but that is little consolation (and I bet some others will do that no problem as well). It does feel like a small cell phone, for better or worse, and personally I'd rather have a bit more to hold on to, especially if I want to hold it with my ear and shoulder. At least WalMart has easy returns... I don't know if I want to spend the $ for the Siemens 2410 and its ext's. So for now, I think I will try the Sanyo 957a. T

Summary: Poor Voice Quality, Good Features...
Review: I really wanted to like this phone. Even though it was pricey, I thought it would be a great tool. Indeed, the VTech 2431 has tons of great features: mute, multiple handsets, headset jack, speaker phone, base dialing, slim design, etc.

HOWEVER, the voice quality was extremely poor. People on the other end of the line consistently said it sounded like I was underwater or in a tunnel. There is also constant buzzing sound even after trying several different locations. No amount of trouble shooting helped.

In summary: you buy a phone so you can have clear, trouble free conversations with people. And unfortunately, this is where the VTech 2431 fails. I'm returning mine...

Summary: decent
Review: This phone has lots of features, but 2 problems: the speakerphone fades out sometimes and the signal does not go through brick walls very well. I think there are probably better choices.

Summary: I did not like this phone.
Review: This is an expensive phone and I was expecting better sound quality. It looks neat and I loved how it looks and its small size, however the sound quality was worse than my old Panasonic 49mhz phone that was 6 years old. There was a echo when I talked and a constant humming sound that I could not get rid of. For all the hype about 2.4 gigahetz phones I am not impressed. I returned it for Toshiba FD-9859 for less than half the cost and have been very happy with Toshiba's 900 digital phone.

Summary: It's the Wave of the Future
Review: I purchased the Vtech 2431 phone along with a satellite phone a few weeks ago. I absolutely love it! My daughter wanted a phone in her room, but there was no phone jack and I didn't want to think about how much it would cost to have another jack installed. The 'satellite' phone has solved that problem and she just loves the neat, small design with Caller ID. This light-weight phone can be easily carried around using the belt loop or in your pocket. There is an area in the base to charge an auxiliary battery (not included) that stays charged and ready in the event of a power failure. You can then still use your phone for up to 5 hours! The only thing that would make this phone perfect is if it came with an answering machine. I can envision all phone systems of the future consisting of a base phone plus 'satellites' for the rest of the house.
