Review: Just received my phone, and unfortunately, I am finding similar problems as others here, namely: 1. Sound quality BITES. Constant hiss, echo sometimes, distortion (crackling sound) when I speak. Sounds like something you would get at ToysRUs. 2. Message waiting indicator does not work (phone co. settings are OK) 3. Feels small, light, and cheap. 4. Question the cosmetic durability. I have seen some floor models in the store which showed the silver color having worn off. (Granted, they get beat to crap, but still in comparison to the other beat-up models)I'll probably return it. Are there any other models with similar features (multi-handset, message ind., ? The Panasonic looks/feels much more robust, but does not have the features.

Summary: It's about time a phone was this good!
Review: I spent months reading reviews and shopping for phones. I thought I might be unrealistic in my expectations but found the VTec phone to live up to almost all of them. And considering the great price, you can't go wrong. Adding numbers from caller ID into storage is a breeze. I just wish it took more than 50 numbers into memory. And Vtech has thoughtfully provided a feature to allow you to choose to add an area code or a "1" into a number before storing or dialing. Transering calls from phone to phone and using the intercom has been a blessing for me. I can receive a call in the middle of the night and transfer it to my roommate without walking down three flights of steps to his bedroom. It has also eliminated the yelling from room to room to find someone in the house. Also, the phone will tell you if the line is in use so you don't have to face those annoying interuptions when someone else in the house picks up the phone to make a call while you are on another call. There are a few features I wish VTec would consider. (1) you can easily erase the caller ID memory on each phone but you can not erase the caller ID memory from all phones at once. (2)even with the volume control on the phone, my handset will not go as loud as I would like it to. (3) there are too many key strokes to sort through memory.

Summary: Excellent phone for the money
Review: After reading the other reviews, I was skeptical but wanted to see for myself. I was tired of having 3 different 900 mhz brands in the house, each with it's own features, speed-dials, and so on. I followed the directions (charged overnight before connecting to the phone line, installed it upstairs away from applicances, etc.) to avoid previously mentioned pitfalls and absolutely love this phone. My original order was for the base and 1 handset. I have since ordered the (max) additional 3 handsets. Although I thought the speakerphone built in to the handset was frivolous, my wife (currently nursing our daughter and often with her hands full) loves this feature. Audio quality is excellent and range is better than any of our 900 mhz phones. Memory storage is simple as are the other features. Kudos to VTech. Only nit is that when you place the phone face down on a hard surface, it tends to turn the intercom on. If you stand it up, no problem.

Review: I purchased this phone because it had a fantastic look and excellent features for the price. Unfortunately, its terrible constant background hiss, poor sound quality, and miserable battery life convinced me there's much more to a phone than just looks.

Summary: A cutie loaded with features, but...
Review: When you see a phone loaded with features at a fraction of a cost of other similar products you think that something should be wrong. After you buy it, you realize that you like it's style, feature set which is one of the best I believe. However, the disappointment comes when you try to place your first call. The sound quality is average, there's constant noice on the background and if you move away from the base the sound starts to "break"; fortunately, the connection is not interrupted. If you can live with that another problem is short battery life. Expect about 2 days in standby mode and ~1 day if you talk more or less frequently. When I opened the phone there was a note in the battery compartment recommending charging it every night, so probably VTECH is aware of this problem. I replaced the phone but without luck - same problems. Others are happy, so, may be I was out of luck and the retailer I used had a box of defected phones but I really doubt it. Dissapointed, I got a Panasonic KX-TC1851 and happy with it so far. My 2 cents...

Summary: Not As Good As I'd Hoped
Review: I bought the phone and charged it overnight. I used it the next day and was surprised to get a low battery warning after about 3 hours of use. The Radio Shack I am replacing normally works for marathon days of 7+ hours on the phone. I thought maybe I should give the phone another try so I let it charge all night again. Today I had the same problem. I have to return it. Even though it has a compartment for charging a second battery, I can't risk running out of juice on a conference call with a client. Other disappointments are the number of steps to get to my stored numbers. Say I want to call someone in my address book whose name starts with "K". I have to press "MEM" then "FIND" then the 5 key ("jkl") then "FIND" and then, since it doesn't go to the first name starting with "j" or higher but instead goes to the one prior to "j" I have to hit the down arrow and then "ON" to dial. That's a lot of clicks. This thing reminds you of a cell phone but it isn't really as smart. To do the same thing on my cell phone I hit my down button to get into my directory, hit the 5 key, maybe press down again, and then hit talk. It is at least three clicks faster. Sure, maybe this is a small thing but I use my phone a lot and it would always bug me that they could have easily done this better. The sound quality is not as good as my Radio Shack 900 MHz. I didn't do any distance tests. The sound with my high-end Hello Direct headset was tinny. I also found that I didn't hear much of my own voice. I could have dealt with the usability problems and less than perfect sound, but the battery stuff is unnacceptable. Lower volume phone users may be happy with this phone.

Summary: Oh - So - Close (to perfect)
Review: I bought the Vtech 2431 after researching numerous phones on the market. What attracted me was the convenience of having a multi-extension cordless system with paging/intercom capabilities as well as having speakerphones with every extension. Let me start by saying that I am happy with this phone and will keep it, but I have a few nits to pick with the overall implementation. Sound- Sound quality is good, even at extreme ranges. At the end of our block the sound quality is as good as it is in our house. There is a very low-level background noise (I am being extremely picky here) that I would rate to be about the same as my cell phone on a good day. (motorola startac). Overall the sound quality is better than my Vtech and Panasonic 900 Mhz digital phones and the range is much better. Programming - The programming should be intuitive for most users. It is fairly straightforward but I found the lack of an insert function while editing to be a bit annoying. If you are going to edit an existing number stored in memory, there is no way to insert edit into that number. For instance in our area we recently had an area code change which forced dialing 1 prior to some area codes even when that area code is the same as our own. You couldn't simply go in and add the 1, you had to retype the whole number. Clock - There is none. With all the electronics this phone does have, I don't know why they didn't add a clock. Display - The display is sharp and readable in all but extreme lighting conditions. The backlit display is very easy to read at night. Caller ID - Works well and supports call waiting caller id in our area. The problem with the caller id function is that it will not pick up a name out of the phone book (memory) when the numbers for an 'out of area' call obviously matches an entry in the phone book memory. Silly.. Memory - You can add numbers manually or you can add numbers from the caller id list, very straight forward except for the previously mentioned editing problem. Speakerphone on base - Very good. As good as any phone I have used except for dedicated conference phones. Base station - The spare battery charger is nice. I wish there were more quick access speed dial buttons (only 3 are available). Speakerphone on extensions - Having a speakerphone on the cordless extension rocks. I really, really like this feature. Sound quality is fairly good for the size of the speaker. Intercom feature - Straight forward and intuitive, works as advertised. Hit Intercom then # of the extension and you can call it directly. You can also put someone on hold, call an extension and use the intercom function to screen the call (honey, its work on the phone, are you here?).. Overall it's a very nice phone. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a high end cordless phone.

Summary: Problem handsets
Review: I was attracted to the VTech because you could add additional handsets and use the intercom feature from handset to handset, which was convenient. The accessory handset failed after less than 2 weeks and the keypad wouldn't respond - couldn't dial or answer the phone. I exchanged the handset. The base handset then stopped ringing, not too convenient when you're in the yard, expecting a call, and the phone doesn't ring. I returned the phone. Two malfunctions in less than 4 weeks. On the plus side, I thought programming was very intuitive.

Review: I first heard about this phone from my friend. He has this phone, I was surprised with the clear speakerphone. I will sure buy it soon. It seems like everyone is out of stock with them. I would recommend it to anyone. ITS A GREAT PHONE.

Summary: This phone is the best
Review: I just bought this phone, and it is the best thing that I have ever bought. I don't know why people are "Dissapointed" with this item. It goes pretty far, like a couple of blocks, and has tons of features. The only dissadvantage with this item is that an answering machine is not built into it. There is a site where you can purchase the answering machine that goes with it, but I can not recall it. This phone also has a speaker on the back of the handset. So you can push a button called "Handsfree" and just talk into the back of the phone if your ear is getting tired. This phone is a MUST BUY!!!
